I had stale croissants and French bread so I made this classic French dish 

Very nice Helene. It started off looking like bread pudding until you cut it into squares and put in the frying pan. Pain Perdu! Yes, your bread will not be lost with this dish or bread pudding. Nothing wasted! God bless you and the family!

This is so easy and looking so so good. It can be both.

It's both! I would eat this any time. I believe in not letting anything go tp waste. I use stale bread to make croutons for salads. I don't throw away pickle juice either. It can be used to flavor pasta salad or potato salad--or in vinegarettes.
