I do hvac about 40 min from this location….5 years ago theft was bad…. Don’t see any units stolen in past few years…scrap yards have cracked down on selling coils and copper to public … you would maybe get 10 bucks for that mini split coil A cage on a wall hung mini split is just going to make it a pain to service without removing it completely …anyone with the tools to steal it can get a cage off and scrap it too lol Visible cameras on equipment are 100% better than a cage on this application I do agree I’d have mounted them atleast a few feet higher….but cages are garbage #1 copper is barely over 2 bucks and coils are just over a dollar

Im a professional contractor, this is the type and size of project with the different subcontractors you really have to weigh the cost to hire a reputable outfit to manage the job for you. You deal with one person and they make it happen. I can see that you and your crew are capable and hardworking, but you have to see what the trade off is for your crew not detailing and doing what they are best at, while at the same time progress would be made on the new shop, there wouldn't be multiple trips to home depot, for a project of that size materials should be coming from a building supply company at way less cost then HD. I respect anyone that puts their own sweat equity into their dream. That being said Im just a guy sitting at my laptop watching, I don't know the full scope of your project as far as permits and licensing in your area, but can appreciate all the hard work you guys a re putting in.

As a hanger and finisher…. Wow. Yeah sanding isn’t something we do at all. Not only because of the health risks that come from the silica dust but because I hate it. I’d rather get everything to level 4 or a “smooth not true level 5” if there’s no texture involved. And if there is texture. I just wanna be able to wet sand with a sponge which means every coat needs to be “tight and right” as we say down south. Hanging job was decent but could be better. Hope all goes well and much love from Houston texas.

Should have mounted the mini split condenser unit higher. Thieves steal them for the copper quite often. And staggering the drywall is personal choice. Its ok structurally either way. If you prefer the seams be staggered like that make sure the contractor knows. It's one thing to be distracted but to be distracted as that guy was from what you described is not good.
@Austinadcock

Theft of ac units has gone down since most recyclers won’t take them anymore unless you are a licensed hvac contractor. So unless they are willing to actually tear it down it’s unlikely they will target them.

your drywall material choices are going to be regreted. As a journeyman retired plasterer, I see that lack of staggering the board and choice of tape and corner bead are fly-by night. nail on corner bead should be crimped on but in my part of the country it hasn't been used since the early 90's The reason we went to a paper faced metal that is applied using general purpose conmpound is that it is more resistant to popping off and impact because there is no void behind the bead. General Purpose compound in buckets or boxes has a higher adheasive content and does a great job of holding the correct paper tape and paper faced metal corner bead to the substrate. This material should always be used for the base layer. Inside corners if run with bedding tools such as a roller and flusher will come out nearly perfect if done with paper joint tape. When hiring a drywall finisher always ask what tools he runs. If he is using a (Bazooka) taping machine of some type it is a safe bet he is dedicated to his trade enough to have invested money into his tools that earn him bread. A set of taping, corner tools and flat application boxes are in the ballpark of $4,000 so your average crackhead isn't willing to invest that kind of money into anythign other than crack rocks. If he is running a pan and knife , slop box, or Banjo. Run away. He is most likely going to cost you money and time or lacks the skills to properly complete the job.

All these guys commenting on your mini split install. Please. Unless you want an ugly rebar cage, any speculation on putting a cage up to stop thieves is ignoring the 24 volt and higher Sawzalls out there, today. I work for a mostly commercial HVAC company, based out of Dallas, Texas. I CANNOT TELL YOU how many sliced & diced cages I see. If a crackhead is gonna' steal or vandalize your unit, a cage won't do sh*t. I like the elevated install, as is. If this one gets stolen/vandalized .. mount the next one higher. Your guy installed yours higher than we do. I may "steal" the idea !!!
