THIS IS NOT A POSITIVE VIDEO Please do not watch if you're unprepared or facing brain cancer yourself.
This has been the most difficult video to record and I've been avoiding it for a long time. This is probably the most negative I've been but I really do hate brain cancer. I'm just taking the time to process these emotions and then I'll be back to my positive self.
I hope you're okay and I'm sorry if this video brings anyone down 💛

I am a doctor and I can assure you we talk about statistics and generalities. I’ve seen patients pass months after this diagnosis. 10+ years is PLENTY of time for science to advance. Everything varies from person to person. Also f him for wording it like that. Honesty without empathy is cruelty. Take things day by day. We send you all our strength and love ♥️

I teach medical students about bedside manner and I have to agree with @marianarias313 - this is not how you do this. He actually gave you some good news: you have more than a decade ahead of you and they have a plan for you to make it as long as possible. But the way he basically kept taking away these other hopeful opportunities and made you focus on the most miserable scenario is heartbreaking to hear. Like @mbprim said, there are weekly advances in cancer treatment and a decade is a long time for these advances to happen. So please, Éireann, keep up the hope, there are very sound arguments for it.

I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 29. I am a cancer survivor as I'm now a 64 year old granny. When I was first diagnosed and told I had the dreaded big C I realised that you can change most things in your life if you wanted to, but a cancer diagnosis is something that can't be changed. I pray that you find a place of peace and acceptance to get you through the roller coaster of emotions you are going through. Never, ever, give up as no matter what the doctors may tell you God may have other ideas. Eireann we're sending you strength and love and the biggest virtual hug that RU-vid can send you. 11 years is quite long and medicine will get better. You should always stay optimistic ❤. Sometimes you will worry and its normal, but meditate, do deep breathing exerxises, and eat brain foods. Keep a low sugar Diet, because cancer needs glucose from sugar to grow and spread. Cancer can be starved if we eat alot of vegetables and organic grass fed meats, nuts, sardines, salmon, high in omega 3, and free range organic chicken eggs. Eat fruits high in vitamin C but low on the glycemic index such as watrmelon, blueberries, black berries, apples, kiwi and others. Fruits helps to power our immune system, powers your líver and kidney to detoxify the blood and allow the body to heal, and take in more oxygen. Replace sugars with organic honey, stevia, and other sweetners that helps the body to stay in a cáncer destroying state but use these with moderation. I am hopeful for you and your loving family. Cáncer affects the entire family. So you all be strong for each other. GOD BLESS.

My husband’s oncologist always told us that they can only tell us what Science says. Everyone is different and all one can do is work on getting stronger. You and Devin are a really special couple and I think you should have the beautiful wedding that you were planning. What a special memory that you and all the family and friends will have. Don’t apologise for upsetting us. I would love to be able to just put my arms around you and give you a big hug. You’re really special. I’m sorry this has happened to you. My first thought when you started was to get a second opinion. This man differs so much from what you were previously told so find somebody else to give another opinion and then you can settle what is probably right. Lots of love to you. Make sure that you make your time really worthwhile and happy. It’s very hard but you can do it. I speak from experience 💕

My Aunt has stage 4 cancer and the doctors told her she would be dead in 6 months, but now it's been 18 years later and she's still alive. Don't take 11 years as a maximum lifespan, take it as a minimum. I will live at least 11 years at the minimum. - As for the cognitive decline, as you age you get mentally slower regardless. I'm 41 now and I do not feel as sharp as I was in my 20s. Your case is more extreme of course, but naturally you would get less sharp mentally anyway, just think of it as a little worse than average. Everyone has to deal with bad things in their lives and this is your random bad life modifier. It is also possible more cures come out for cancer within the next decade that could cure yours. I'm hoping for the best for you!

However, she got to see me, her youngest, graduate as high school valedictorian. She was able to be there when I accepted my Bachelors in Engineering and then my Masters. She was there when I got married and was able to see the home I built. My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in her 50's and she made a complete recovery and has been cancer free for years, and her morale throughout the entire treatment protocol was shockingly positive. Stress has been shown to be associated with an uncountable number of diseases, and it's foolish and dishonest to claim that it plays no role in the recovery process of any patient with practically any disease. Also, I just read your comment from a few hours ago on this channel, and I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the difficulty you've had to go through with that surgery, and having to abide by less "surgical" and tangible treatment regimens since you can't have a third surgery. The world has changed so much in the last 20 years, as has medicine, and treatment methods have grown to be much more effective and with less side effects than how they used to be. I will not ask or encourage you blindly to "Oh be positive, have hope! Live, laugh, love!" etc etc, if it's against what you're feeling right now and would only feel worse to hear that - it's important to feel your feelings and there's no better feelings to feel, the bad and the good. But what I hope is that you try to trust the process, advocate for your own health, and harbor no feelings of guilt nor resentment towards yourself. And I wish you nothing but the best on your journey towards improvement, recovery, and hopefully being tumor-free once again.

Sweet girl, I’m so sorry. Definitely push for that second opinion and even third and fourth if necessary. Even with the underfunding for brain cancer, I don’t agree with him that there’s no point because nothing will change in ten years. That’s ridiculous and very unfair of him to say that. I wish there was something I could say to comfort you, but I know there isn’t. I am so glad you have such wonderful support around you. It’s important to allow yourself the bad days to feel it all - you’re literally grieving the life you thought you’d have and unless they’ve been through it, people can’t understand. I don’t know if it’s something you’ve considered but when you’re ready I highly recommend finding a counsellor with experience of young people with cancer. It helped me so so much. Sending you all the love and a huge hug. 💖💖💖

I am so sorry that you had to make this video. You are very brave. I am a bereavement therapist and my specialty was in cancer support. I want you to know that your message was so wonderful to hear on this day in particular. I am an American and our country is in such turmoil that it sometimes feels like we don’t have much time left as a loving country. We are all mourning our losses and even though I am a professional, I still feel deeply and often get caught up in the sadness. Your message resonated with me today about living in the moment. Thank you honey for the perfect timing and the sweet message! God has you in the palm of his hand. You enjoy those moments, none of us know how long we have! There is a wonderful man named Kyle who I follow on RU-vid who is twenty plus years with a glioma and just had successful surgery to remove it all! Miracles can happen. Get that second opinion! We are holding you up in prayer and hope!🙏🏻❤

When I was a kid my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and told he had only 18 months at most. He lived for 4.5 years later. Your future is not set in stone. Medical advancements are always underway. And don’t ever think your family is burdened by you. It is such a gift everyday to have you in their life and they are probably so happy they can do what they can for you.

I wanted to go the concert but couldn’t get tickets so I lived vicariously through your vlog. I have to say your personality and positive energy is so infectious and i immediately subscribed and started following your journey. You are so authentic, beautiful, and kind and I can tell all that without even having met you in person. Don’t ever change. Don’t let cancer change who you are. It does not define you and if you don’t let it define your life it can’t really take your life. You are meant to be here for a long time 💛

Sweet Eireann, it’s completely normal to feel the way you feel. Please speak it, we’ll always keep listening. Less than 200 years ago, the life expectancy was about what your life expectancy is now. I do not by any means want to downplay your situation. It’s just a thought that helps me cope when I compare my life and my medical problems to others. Love to you and your family 😘

Eireann, I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken to see your grief and hear what you were told. I have a low grade glioma too, just had my first surgery in august of this year. I’m 34, I have a 5 month old son and an amazing supportive husband. I just want you to know I see you, I feel your pain and understand the devastation to face that reality living to 80 just isn’t in the cards for us. I empathize with how frustrating it can be to hear people constantly be like, “but you’re going to be the special miracle case who beats this!”, when you know the reality of the disease. It’s good to be positive but sometimes you just need to cry and be angry that this happened to you. Sometimes the stories of “I know so-and-so who had a brain tumor and they’re fine!” are not helpful, especially when you are in a pit of despair. People don’t know what to say so the impulse is to try and make u feel better by being positive. But I always say if words could fix the problem I wouldn’t have brain cancer. Just want you to know I’m following your journey in solidarity and hoping you will continue to spend your time making memories with those you love for as long as possible. With love from Canada ❤️ Ps. Please get that second opinion. Consider going to the USA to a leading hospital like Mayo or MD Anderson for a consultation. Dr. Bendok at Mayo Arizona is awesome, was the best $600 USD I ever spent to get some peace of mind.

There is this day, there is only really the present Eireann, go and live it when you have rested and processed. We never truly know when this is our time, it sucks. Life is beautiful but it is cruel too. I had a brain bleed and grateful I survived. I feel guilty I've had a life, more than you.. I would give you some of my time if it were possible. Don’t ever give up! Advances are being made everyday in cancer research. Get a second or even third opinion until you feel satisfied that you have all the knowledge you need going forward. I have one of very least funded cancer, lung cancer, and a nodule on my thyroid was just diagnosed and this cancer is even funded less than lung ! All cancer should receive equal funding. I’m so sorry you are feeling so low but 11 years is a lot of OPPORTUNITY to find a better treatment or better yet a cure. Never give up. I do understand the feeling of despair, let yourself feel it and then move on to getting that second opinion! God Bless You 🙏🏻

My mom passed away from a "Glioblastoma" she had surgery to remove it, and they where not able to get the whole thing. She got chemo and radiation to try to get the rest of it, but it didn't get the whole thing, it came back with 6 tumors on top of it, she died December 19th, 2017. A.I. is accelerating research, studies, and medical breakthroughs faster than ever. In many ways, this is the 'best' time to be ill, with new treatments and discoveries constantly emerging. Stay grounded, prepare for the worst, but never stop hoping for the best. One thing I can promise you from my own experience, life is a game we agreed to play before we arrived here. Only the boldest and bravest take on the toughest challenges, and while the pain may seem unbearable at times, the rewards are far greater than you can imagine. One day, a long way from now, you’ll go home. And when you do, you’ll find yourself holding a bag filled with priceless experiences, richer than any pain you endured. That moment will make everything worth it.

Dearest Éireann, I can't tell you how distressing I found it to watch this video and see you so upset and in despair and offered so little hope by the doctors in Ireland. I've read a number of comments already left before posting this and like everyone else, I think you should get a second opinion. Doctors can often be wrong. The ones in our village in North Wales were wrong telling my wife the "good news" that her malignant melanoma (the worst skin cancer you can get) was nothing to worry about and not worth removing. She nearly died as a result and Soph and Thomas nearly lost their mother. Thank God, she is still with us five years later. I wish I could say something positive to you that could change things - we all do. But I just can't right now. I will say this - I admire you more than ever (if that's possible) - even in the depths of your grief and despair you're helping inspire the rest of us to live our lives to the full and not to wait for a reality check slapping us in the face. Thank you for making me - and many others - better people than we would otherwise be. I hope you can put my donation to a worthy cause - and that worthy cause is YOU and Devin. Enjoy your time together and I so hope it is a great deal longer than 11 years. The world needs special people like you. With love and best wishes Rob (oh, and daughter Soph of course!) xx
