Browser sent me over to this channel. Fuck I miss you man. Hope get to ride with you in the next life. Thanks for who ever keeps this channel up and running.
Your friend presumably had her lights on while she was travelling at 70mph on the motorway in the dark. The Highway code says you should be able to stop on your own side of the road in the distance you can see to be clear ahead. Thats probably the angle the insurance company are using, doesn't make it right I know but if they can find a get out clause they will!
I'm an inexperienced rider, so my insurance is already relatively high. I was riding down the road at the speed limit, casual, no drama. When a guy pulls out of from a side road on the opposite side turning right. Pulls out right infront of me, im on the brakes as hard as you can go without crashing the bike and end up also having to swerve to avoid him, resulting in my falling off and sliding down the bank. Thankfully i was ok, the bike was not. but because i didnt hit him, insurance blames me.
@1nfusionz I like how one quote I got would make it cheaper to buy the car pay for un-insured motorist fee, slam into a tree totaling the car then buy another car than it would be to just get insurance...And thats with a clean record no tickets or accidents insurance is mental.
Even worse is if you're a truck driver (lorrie driver, I guess you brits call them). If someone cuts you off and you run off the road to avoid injuring people, and then they drive away unscathed and leave you in the ditch, what do you tell your boss?
Regarding insurance if you have an accident because someone cuts you off and there's no contact with the other vehicle and that person doesn't stop to exchange info then you're very screwed. I guess the problem is that so many people would exploit insurance if they paid those claims putting 100 liability on the phantom vehicle.
Did she ask her insurance what the proper following distance should be between herself and a car that she could not have seen nor anticipated would be there.
What I hate most is when insurance companies don't want to cover you, so they just quote you a stupid number up around £9,000.. I would rather them just say, 'Sorry we can't insure you' than waste my time... Good video man, come back to the Brighton area soon :D
the best part of insurance... Accident: not my fault, other party drives off after hitting me, and i can't afford comp insurance, so i have to pay for the repairs for my own bike.
The Insurance company are correct here sven, you should always drive at a speed safe for the conditions, if you cannot see more than say 50m infront of you you should dive at a speed in which you will be able to stop. If you were driving in thick fog , extremely heavy rain or snow would you still drive at 70mph? Your headlights only show you so far ahead. In reality though most of us will all drive 70mph on the motorway in the dark becase you just dont expect anything to go wrong.
I've always thought of insurance this way - Would you give someone who came up to you in the street £10 a month, if he offered to pay for your bike if you broke it? No. You'd tell him to get fucked and that you're perfectly capable of taking care of it.
Ive got a Pajero to the value of £1,900 but pay £2,400 to insure it. Granted its my first car but the insurance companies wern't in the slightest interested that I also own a ZX-10R and have been riding 5 years without a claim or accident.
You are on the highway, going 70mph and there is a trailer stopped in the road? You're not going to slow down... And at night? Yes, the trailer shouldn't have been there, but this is life. Stuff happens, should have slowed down and seen what was up.
i totally agree!! i hate people who are too lazy to indicate where they are going (or not)!! I live in Berlin City and driving a vespa lx 50 and its a pain in the ass to drive here... people in cars slowing down a few meters in front of a trafficlight, stopping in the 2nd lane without any indication!!! hate that!
When i done my bike test last year, during my first couple of days they kept saying if it says 30 mph speed limit,Doesnt mean you have to go 30mph. If there's loads of cars parked on each side of the road and its narrow for you and other road users travel at a slower speed so you have time to react if you have to do so. so if its pitch black and you cant see as well as you would like to maybe you should slow down just incase anythink appears.
I agree, they always need to indicate or as in the US we say "signal". In California we have a plague of lazy non-signaling drivers, too. Also have non-stopping drivers or what we call a California stop (rolling rolling rolling and may be stopping).
@mbond65 Get a small old banger to gain experience before you buy something you really like. Doing it this way allows you to gain confidence while the insurance cost is stupid, once you get a few years no claims it will get a bit better, but running a vehicle is by no means cheap! DO NOT show off to your mates, that will only do two thngs, put yourself (and your license) at risk and put other drivers at risk of injury. The sound of your surroundings is more important than music. Good luck
@MrSlowestD16 filtering is a way of manovering through heavy usually stationary traffic. Say your on a dual carriageway and there is a lot of traffic leading up to a roundabout. Filtering is where you move through the gap in the middle of the two lanes (on the broken white line) some people do it in moving traffic but your really not supposed to , for obvious reasons.
@jlkiwi First bike, and under the curse of the L plate, Suzuki GSX250. And definitely got gear, dont worry about that! Same user name on KiwiBiker if your on that. Cheers for the welcome mate!
don't even get me started on insurance.. terrible companies.. argghhh. makes my blood boil just thinking about them.. You'll like my next vid.. it's got some ranty-ness in it..
the insurance company expects you to claim in court for which she could get a very sizable sum for a no win no fee!! More than if she went viia the insurance company... but they don't tell you this!!!!
@MrSlowestD16 Have you ever been at a traffic lights and you have seen a motorbike go past everybody in the middle to get to the front? Or speeding on the lines of a motorway to get past everyone. Its basically that.
I never understood people not using indicators, alot of people dont use them if there isnt anyone around but i would argue in the time you had to think about if anyone was around you could of just flicked them on.
she would have been better off hitting them, the instinct is to not but then it would have been on the other partys insurance which is stupid cause it really still should be
ThThe insurance I have to pay on a 50cc cheap scooter, is the same as m friends pay for a 50cc Rieju RS3 worth £2.6k, and I live in the middle of nowhere, it's kept in a locked garage far from a crime hotspot.
Seems like the insurance policies are harsh for you guys in the UK. It cost me a little over $1400/yr Canadian to insure a 10 year old car with 160,000 kms worth $2500 when I was a new driver at 16. From the few things I have seen about the insurance for a new driver in the UK namely from Top Gear and few other things I could be paying double or triple that over there.
Totally rude!!! I cant get over the fact that no matter what my no claims is...up to about 8years now...my premium tends to go up after the first year an extra £150...so always have to shop around heavily to keep it low...about £140.00 FC for ZX9R at 37yrs old!! They are such chancers..its unbelievable. Thank God no one was hurt...thats always the main thing!!
I insured my bike for 24$ for 6 months :-) But my bike is not insured for stealing or if I crash it somewhere. I still can't understand why insurance in UK/US etc are so big :O
idk what everyone is doing but i'm 19 with 1 car write off and its costing me £2350 to insure a Mk5 Golf 1.9tdi se fully comp. also my street triple r cost £1100 fully comp valued at £8800..that was with no ncb either because my second bike insurance wasn't up until november and i bought the triumph in sept. i also agree with sven about indicating..pricks.
@dippidop thats brilliant cheers for advice. However I have considered that and its still a problem! Im still getting quoted 2,500 pounds upwards on a 1 litre! which ive said is worth 300 quid. absolute madness
So their excuse was there was no contact so not their customer's fault and hence are not at fault.... should she have ploughed into the parked to car to get a claim from them? Makes you think.
If you think thats bad, my cousin had a cop car pull a U turn on him, on a 2 lane road, he was overtaking them but within speed limit, they crash into side of him, they admit fault and he claims off their insurance, then when he goes to insurance a car in future he will have his insurance rise even though he was not at fault, as he has been involved in an accident, how is that fair!
@littleheadspin Seen it, not really, NY is pretty strict about it. But I myself do it probably more than I should (yeah, I'm a bit of a dick when I ride when people get stupid)..typically not at traffic lights, that doesn't matter to me, more-so when people are next to each other in different lanes (while moving) and neither is going faster, so you can't pass them, they're side by side - that shit irritates the hell out of me. I've always heard it referred to as lane splitting before, though.
Anyone notice At 4:34 when he goes straight through the intersection (after the first jackass who doesn't signal ) The pedestrian he turned his head away from did he almost run them over?
my dad had a crash last year and we sent the bike to be repaired more than 3 months ago and guess what? the insurance just approved the money last friday. so our bike has been sitting at the dealer for 3 months for nothing. and yeah. i hate insurance too, but what can we do about it.
@TheRealLaker That should have nothing to do with your car insurance aside from the fact that you have no accident(s). I think it's safe to say that we're so royally screwed that eventually we won't have any more money to "give." Theft and other stuff like that also contribute to the high prices. Looks like we all hate insurance from other posts lol!!
I'm pretty sure there is some law which states that, even with out contact, someone does something to cause an accident that it is there fault. So the caravan in this case, or if someone were on their bike and a car pulled out, you swerved around it and fell off. Didn't touch them, but you fell off because of their incorrect move then they'd be liable. Probably too late, but sounds like a bit of cock and bollocks from the insurance folks...
I was on the exact same bit of road you were on turning right after the shell garage last week. how strange. people who dont indicate annoy the hell outta me too, GRRR
@mbond65 try getting a quote on a diesel.. doesnt sound too appealing i know but it does work out cheaper than a petrol.. alternatively buy a bike, insurance can be 10x cheaper than any car insurance..
1st rule of insurance, did the viercel you colided into have their lights on? NO then its thier fault. but because this vehicle was unable to use its lights, this really is a case of, its no ones fault, but no insurers want to blame someone, she wasernt speeding, and she kept the 2 second rule. she wasernt in the breaking distance my arse. insurers are bastards.
Insurance companies proportion blam even if it is not your fault you still get blamed because you were there! yes its partly your fault because you were there!!!... I once got ran up the but by a plod on a motorcycle while I was stopped at a trafic light and I got booked for an unsafe lane change even though I was standing still!!! The moral is.... #$it happens and life is unfair!!!
In a perfect world the unlit object the driver hit. Would be at fault. Well, the owner of that object.. Everybody should drive a motorcycle for a few years like in Taiwan. If they did they'd understand the importance of indicating..
@svengalie Wish that wasn't illegal here in the US. Even when I'm not racing or anything (just a normal pace) is much faster off the line than a car's. I see the issues doing it while moving, but if it's just at a traffic light, who cares?? Some US laws suck.
Some right arisses out there sven. nearly got smacked into by a dumb blonde not looking before turning out. One day ill nail a damages claim, just hope im wearing the eyegear at the time lol
You sound just like me Sven, getting grumpy about slack drivers :) So you're not coming to New Zealand on your world tour?? Gutted.. I just got a bike :D
@mbond65 When Job seekers make us travel upto 40 Mile of the area i live or i dont get payed. What do u expect us to do.. i ay sharing my seat with old people and single moms on the buses lol
I think we all know that an insurance company is a scumbag business that will look for any excuse to not pay up. BTW why did you need to tell the story owhile on the motorbike... lol :)
@antonyr123 you are mad to pay that sort of money for insurance. now i know why young drivers insurance is so expensive, well partly the reason. Young people are actually paying it! lol
