So it's crazy that Bilbo popped off at 144 life - in the books the number of guests at his party are 144, chosen as it is thee sum of his (111) and Frodo's (33) ages: "Together we score one hundred and forty-four. Lynch's comment about the Scouring of the Shire (not Scorching) is correct about the bountiful harvest. However the substance of "pipe weed" aka "longbottom leaf" aka "halfling's leaf" is not intended by the author to be cannabis. It's interpretation as cannabis is an invention of the movie. Tolkein was an avid smoker of pipe tobacco, and added tobacco leaf to his story as a representation of the simple pleasures in life.

Awesome game guys, very cool to see Bilbo's ability go off. For the record, there are a couple of effects that prevent players from gaining life so those are the real hinges to that deck. Especially the card Tainted Remedy which reverses lifegain into life loss. In my opinion those cards would be much more efficient in stopping this deck considering they're mostly in enchantment form where as things that prevent Enter the battlefield abilities from going off are usually stapled onto creatures and are therefore much less permanent.

Gyome as Sky was pronouncing it, sounds exactly like how we pronounce the name Guillaume in french. All that to say a common childhood nickname for Guillaume is guimauve which means marshmallow.

I’m late for sure, but if you play this deck again you can send bilbo to the command zone. Anytime the commander changes zone like going to hand, graveyard or exile it can be put in the command zone.

I think it's worth keeping in mind that a 'sylvan' library might not be a collection of books, a library is more properly a place of knowledge than a place of books in exclusion right? Just because it's called a library doesn't mean it has books. This Bilbo thing is a bit like my Reaper King deck, it's 'thing' is The World Tree, which is pretty crazy to pull off. Oh, and that very deck actually uses Dragon Throne of Tarkir, which is a pretty nifty card. It's a very fun deck, but there is a reason it runs a LOT of wipes.
