When you went to variety content it filled me with joy to see you doing stuff you enjoyed rather than forcing league content during lore drought (although I’m sure you love league too!) So it’s really nice to see you also enjoying WoW and sharing that with us too! Just happy to see you talking about what you are passionate about, no matter what that is 😊

I have never played world of warcraft before, but I have won over 5000 games in hearthstone ranked, which in the process made me listen to youtubers discussing world of warcraft lore out of curiosity. This in turn is what made me stumble upon your channel after I stated to play legends of Runeterra.

Definitely explains a lot of your assumptions about the MMO, its cool to see your passion for WoW expressed through numbers. On the topic of Riots MMO tho, I think WoW would be a bad frame work for the MMO because there have been a number of games that try to emulate what WoW did in its hay day and those games end up dying rather quickly. I think MMOs that are popular nowadays usually do their best to do something different entirely.
Yeah, as someone who started playing wow at the same time as necrit and had family members who played when the game first released...trying to go for nostalgia doesn't work. New players won't get it and old players will quickly grow bored.
The raid they did was 2 or 3 out of 7 bosses. They're shorter but you're level 25, longer and some classes run into resource issues (mana specifically)
I feel like a lot of the stuff coming in Discovery is heavily inspired by Ascension. Ascension is a custom version of Classic where classes don't "exist," you pull from the talents of every class, find Mystic Enchants that boost your power and fundamentally change the rules of your spells and game plan. Want to tank on a Mage? Go ahead. Rogues can be one of the best AoE Healers in the game. Overall I am interested in both the upcoming Retail expansions, and the Season of Discovery.
I said the same thing during the livestream. But here they're doing it differently. All these extra abilities are like a new talent tree instead of a spellbook with every spell accessible for all classes like it is in Ascension.

On the topic of Rogues tanking, Rift had a soul for Rogue that was a tank spec and worked more on increasing your dodge chance which i think thematically works well

From kinda gritty british style high fantasy centered about war of two factions to Dragons having family drama and sassy boy crying bcs he would rather stay in the chapel than be a true king like his father. Instead of just embracing the vibe, they ruined it and ruined every character from old times.
Holy fking shit I never realized I would have such a similair history of quitting and coming back to WoW as others lol! (I have pretty much the same history with WoW as you except for 1 more time I took a 6 month break between Draenor and Legion) I recently quit again about 3-4 months ago and then saw your videos a few weeks ago and my hope for the league MMO that came thanks to Arcane and your videos has kept me from even really thinking of playing WoW again.
@@TheEregos and yet it still doesn't manage to keep us engaged, like hell I did everything in around three weeks a month after the launch of DF got my aotc and ksm and even had time to get two other heals up 'n running (ofc not to the extent of my main). the thing is, DF is so good and it gives you so many things you wished for! honestly it's night and day in comparison to SL, they did so many things right! but... it's the same thing over and over again :( I totally get it some people might like this more than anything but for me I was looking for a fresh experience and maybe some lore but I got none of those, the lore feels boring & not interesting... the gameplay loop is the same as ever and it just doesn't feel good achieveing anything. Mind you most of my friends quit and old guild died so I was on my own, maybe this influenced my perspective and experience a lot.
@@TheEregos the only thing i was having fun with was hardcore and a member of my guild getting my main killed at level 40 then losing my alt shortly after thanks to me playing while tired ended the game for me.
I don't know if it's because a fellow WoW player recognize a WoW player, but I've followed you to the core just because of that, you seem to be a hardcore fan of World of Warcraft, and you seem to be a big biig fan of its lore and universe. You sometimes even mix between the two franchises but it's subtle and it's probably because I've been into those two franchises for a decade now that I kinda relate to you mate! my favourite moment in classic was lining up in the starting zones for the quests. No battle for tags, no stealing stuff. Just waiting in line and talking to people until it was your turn. That just shows the massive difference in audience/behaviour from retail to classic. The chill vibes of classic vs the frantic min/maxing of retail

I've played MMO's with Rogue tanks and the idea is dodge/glancing blow trickster based, but they are always end-game, or just the broken option to pick for an easy time solo, the group aspect of dungeons usually scales up the enemy hit rate to make it work more properly
The best part of making mistakes, is that sometimes, you make something new. And because of that, we've got a Lore master in a Riot game named after you xD
Not sure if you already knew since you didn't mention it but regarding your point about MMO companies just taking someone else's idea and improving upon it, you should look into Ascension WoW. Many people are saying Season of Discovery is just official Ascension WoW which would make sense since I believe some of the Ascension developers were invited to Blizzard HQ like the Nostalrius devs back in the day. Personally I would love if Blizzard just took all the fun features from private servers and incorporated them into official Classic.

I literally grew up with wow i got my first char when i was 4 because i've been annoying my parents when i wanted to watch every second they played and asked them hundreds of questions,i dont remember which wow was the first i played tho sadly but i activly played for 4 years(ofc just 1 hour a day) then stopped after mop and started to play again off and on since then but recently got way back into it and i'm as obsessed as i used to be😂
Good point. Why make a classic +, have it potentially fail, when you can just "beta" test ideas in a season. Great move by blizz actually. It looks interesting, but I am more of a classic classic person. That also means no h+ in WotLK, insane influx of pots during leveling. I mean, why did I need to get 200 mana pots from 70-80? That just breaks a profession early on..

I actually realized when I saw you're using wow human models when making lore videos. You're an amazing guy when it comes to story telling and all, you should cover WoW as well if you can!
I actually like the level banded approach. It makes it so much easier for us all to enjoy the new journey together, I mean some people want to take their time and not get spoiled, by capping the level it makes it so these people can keep up and not have to worry about everything being discovered and min maxed before the rest of us see even 20% of the new stuff. Maybe the seasons can be turned into the level increases and we get new stuff each time. I feel like classic plus is also always going to feel like a private server unfortunately.

the new class specs sound similar to guild wars 2, with each expac on there we tend to get a new specialization for each class, which also means a new weapon that previously wasn't available to that class this tends to bring new things to each class, such as necromancer being able to heal, or elementalist being a tank, it is done exceptionally well though and doesn't feel silly at all it's a great way to add more flavour to each class and open up more options of playing to players whom didn't really like the previous things a class may have offered hopefully WoW does it just as well!
You made me check my main's played time: 6351 hours on my Warlock + 2192 hours on my DK +1661 hours on my druid. I have not really played retail on my own account. On my own account I've started in WoD. My druid gained most of those 1661 hours in WoD. Then everything from Legion to today it was my Warlock and my DK. Occasionally getting my Monk off the shelve and gathering 1584 hours. I have played most of my teenage years either lvling others accounts on retail or playing on private servers. So, if we count the private servers........then I am playing since Vanilla. Anyway, you cant create that sense of community if you gamble with politics and divisive decisions. Celebrating what brings us all in the game is what creates the community and that sense of belongging. Focus on what we all enjoy and want instead of bringing politics in it. Sadly, retail already let politics slip in and you have major contraditctions in its own race lore highly incompatible with a certain class that has no place in it.
I think that concept of every class beeing able to play every role is something devs could explain pretty good. Like rogue just distracting enemy and just dodging all the hits instead of surviving the blows taken to the face, mage deflecting them with magic shileds, warlock having some super tanky demon that can be basicly his tanking tool, priest... Hmm... Well tank priest is paladin... That one I have no idea how to explain at the moment. Healing as warlock is kinda hard to explain too but i guess someone can make it work somehow.
7:33 I would have laughed at leveling up alts to boost alts to boost back the main. If I hadnt done the same in Dofus nearly 20 years ago. And of course I made an alt to play of EU servers(I am from NA) For referrals though, its more of a League story. I made enough alts to get the Medieval Twitch skin.
14:25 Well, I mean, back in MoP I remember becoming the emergency tank with my Rogue in a leveling dungeon whent the actual tank died. I simply used my dodge and parry boosts to survive and triggered the multi target-spell (Blade storm or something?) to keep the aggro. (I wouldn't have survived a second pack, let's be honest) Similarily, a friend in Classic once did Stratholme with 5 warriors who healed eachothers with bandaids :D

I have almost 30k hours along my retail characters, my lock has more than 800 days of time played :c and I started in late WotLK. I'm not proud of it, but I met my wife and some really good friends there.

To an osrs player, who have never played wow, this season stuff sounds alot like something we have. Leagues, which is a "once a year" private server-esk wacky op fun.
Dividing 19210 by 24 doesn't account for the fact that you sleep. For the purposes of how long a day is for an awake person, while factoring in all the all-nighters and late-nighters, divide it by something like 16 or 18, giving you around 1000 days in wow, 1200 if you get sleep like a normal person. Now you can feel extra bad bro!
I never played WoW until Classic came out in 2019, and even though I didn't play for 3 months after it released I managed to clock in 7k+ hours across 3 chars in Classic alone (which was out for 2 years)...

I have had 2 times when I quit the game for a span of 1-3 months. I dunno exactly how many hours I have in the game, but it's way beyond 60k (it adds up in the 18 years I've played it), but all of it (except 3 months when I played Classic) is all in retail on just a couple of characters. I've been maining a warrior since vanilla and I am still playing that character to this day.
SoD is 1000% Blizz testing the waters for Classic+. The dude even said "It's everything we love about WoW Classic....PLUS a little more" then winked at the camera. To me even the Cata presentation seemed like they are willing to start making changes to the game. Still kinda baffled that they are doing Cata, but whatever, I'm not Blizz marketing. I haven't cared about Classic personally even though I've played since Jan 2005, but SoD I'm for sure going to try.
As someone who’s playing Classic for the 1st time, I’m playing a Draenei Priest and good god is Mana Regen hard to come by. I find myself fighting 3-4 enemies and then having to sit around drinking milk to get it all back. It’s definitely more interesting than Retail where mana is basically infinite.
