I finally found time to get back to this project and I'm so pleased I did. It came together really well and is my new favourite item of clothing!
I like it both sides out and I have to say, I think there will be pockets before too long. You know my theory of pockets? A garment is useless without them. So, pockets it is.
If you make a similar thing you could tag me on Instagram. #lhhlgs or #kateatthelasthomelyhouse
The Etsy site where I bought the fabrics is called Colours of Spirit.
Catherine Called Birdy is the film I really enjoyed where Andrew Scott swanned about in a dressing gown that inspired this one!

In America we would call this garment a “robe” or a “house coat/dress.” I love that you take your time to return to started projects. I do the same thing. Creativity is not always “linear.”

Or even a Bath Robe. It's amazing to see how different the name's are for the garment with the same function.

In case no-one else mentioned it, Kate has a channel all about her garden also🥳 I was having an awful day and then i saw that you had a new video for us all. And then I read a whole lot of comments. What a wonderful place the LGS is. All positive, happy comments about 'our' lovely, creative, sharing Kate. Thank you ALL so much for making me feel better. I adore what one person called your leisure gown. I feel that name fits it best. ❤ from Western Australia

@@deniseblake6214 what is the specific distinction of each...you have piqued my interest. I just say bathrobe. I just 'won' a SpongeBob Squarepants neon yellow fleece job for xmas, at a party. I hate sponge bob & I hate fleece. I would lean more towards what Kate has or a flannel robe. But my kids thought it was so hilarious that I ended up with this Thing, that I kept it & wear it daily just to bug them. My younger daughter said that it makes me look "too commercial" & she hates it. 🤣 It has done its job!

The underarm triangle was a brilliant solution. Many colors makes for a cheery wear. I am toying with making myself a "couple" aprons rich in my favorite fabrics. I have been thinking all of them will do just fine. Your dressing gown proves it. Happy week, Kate.

I love this…beautiful fabrics. My Grama called them housecoats and they are comfy! Must have pockets…my daughter in law had her great grandmother’s old housecoats and she asked it I could make a quilt. I said yes, just the kind of unique project I love. My thought was to cut as many 12 1/2 squares as possible. When I looked at the dresses they had beautiful Pearl buttons, some had ribbon ties and pockets. So I cut my squares to include those special items. It turned out fabulous!

Hello Kate! LOVELY dressing gown! You've inspired me to make one for myself although I have TONS of unfinished quilts in my sewing room. Some are projects where I started making blocks and half way through the project, I hated the fabric or pattern so much I just stopped and moved on to the next project. Right now I have 11 quilt tops that are waiting to be sandwiched and quilted, and bound. UGH. By the time I get the top finished, I'm tired of looking at the fabric, so it goes into a plastic tote. Usually in the fall and winter seasons I pull out a few of them to complete, and I'm ALWAYS forget some that I've made and think to myself "why on earth did I put this in the tote? The fabric is lovely." and I end up liking the quilt again. 😂😂😂😂

Sew the right sides together. Leave a turning "hole" perhaps in the hem or the sleeve. After you turn it press it and then topstitch all around. You can pull a lot of fabric through a small "hole". What I usually do is place two pins on each side of the "hole" in an "X" shape so I don't forget to leave that gap.

What a great result! I’m mainly a knitter these days so it’s inspiring to see the equivalent of a scrappy project using fabric. (I guess not truly scrappy, but a similar idea!) I really appreciate how you bring us along with you as you plan and scheme and then tweak and change your plans. It’s interesting to have insight into how someone else processes things. Thanks to you and Anna for all of the work you put into the videos!

This came out absolutely marvelous! I especially like the way the hand stitches look around the cuffs- it must make for a wonderful experience when you turn them up. I have to admit that watching that film also made me want to "swan about". It was a smart choice not to add the batting, I think you'll be able to get much more wear out of it at the lighter weight. Although, it would be spectacular to quilt with that fabric as well. It's beautiful!

The creative atmosphere in the room provokes to make such beautiful things! Thank you so much for the pleasure of listening and watching! In Russia we call it Halat from arabic ḫil᾽аt and sometimes it becomes a sinonym of idle time and lazyness. There's an adverb in Russian language meaning that you do something inaccurately and careless - it can be translated as "you do it as if you were wearing halat with long sleves"

Yes it could be called bagging out - or a bag lining. And you would usually leave a gap at the hem or somewhere else to turn it through.

Just Gorgeous, Lovely easy project that is totally customizable. You mentioned that some folks didn't know what a dressing gown was. I sure did but bathrobe or housecoat is something we might call it in Canada. I would consider adding some tacking stitches here and there so when you wash it, it will hold together.
