What a wonderful storage system❤. I am still stuck in my OCD and have a strong compulsion to keep mine in their proper places. Maybe one day I will let them have a little freedom. Now I want to go to Michael’s and get this for me 😂😂❤❤
I recommend organizing colored pencils in color wheel spectrum and in nuremical order. First primary's, secondary, neutrals, and last but not least other colors such as pinks or metallic's
I keep mine in books because I sometimes work in different parts of the house and it's convenient to carry them around this way. I keep different types of pencils in their own cases, and a smaller one for accessories.
I like my stackable acrylic drawers. They are sometimes called makeup drawers. Mine came in a stack of three. I have 3, which makes 9 drawers;) I seperate by color.
Hahah, when you talked about your number of pencils, I had to chuckle...I don't know how many I have and I'm kind of affairs to find out! But I love them all!
if you take the pencil bins and put the least full on the bottom, next least in the middle and the fullest on top you should be able to put the caddy in and get the lid closed.......based on what it appears in the video clips. i like the concept and totally relate to HATING the putting away of pencils into the loop books onc coloring is done!
I like the books case. I have several brands of colored pencils including Prismacolor Premiere and I do not like mixing them all together. I use my handy swatches to which I create when I buy a set of pencils. I compare the different colors via my book of swatches which I have in a three ring binder. I like to be organized and being able to use the right colored pencil for a particle object. It is easier looking at my charts I made up for each brand of pencils. I create my colored charts as soon as I get a new set. That way it is easier to keep the pencils in order. I do the same with watercolors. I have several brands of watercolors and I keep each brand in a case with a lid. I put all greens that I have in a quart zip up bag....a red zip lock bag, etc. When I am looking for that certain blue, I look in my book full of charts to find the right color or the combination of two colors and I have it. It takes a little time in the beginning but I can go directly to that color by looking at my color charts.
I picked up bins like you are showing from Walmart and they come in different colors so the blue bin holds my blue pencils etc. I love being able to just pull the bin I need and it doesn't take up a lot of room on my desk. I have the pencil pockets but I, like you, found the having to figure out where they belonged after use was a big chore. Thanks for sharing your new storage solution.
Looks like a good system to me! I have mine in books because I take my pencils along to art sessions, but I know what you mean about the chore of putting them away properly!
Good luck with your new system, I hope it works out. It was a really good deal. The bins may fit better if you arrange them differently. The Blue bin on the bottom looks like it has more pencils than the rest. If you put the bins with less pencils on the bottom and the fuller ones on top, it may give you enough spaces to put on the caddy and lid.
To the best of my knowledge Michael''s is all over U. S. It is in Canada. Feel uncomfortable in the store, however did get the desk that I love there. I just bought plastic trays in various sizes that clip together and can be organized anyway one want in drawers. No clutter whatsoever!
Have you thought of pencils drawers? It’s actual name is pastels drawer. But its more functional than containers! You really need to check it out on Amazon. Made of wood. Mine has separation inside the drawers and keep all the pencils super organized. I got the one with 6 drawers. You can add more if you want. But putting your pencils in a containers and keep moving them like that will break the lead.
Thank you. I've been looking for a good way to store my pencils, as I like to have them by color category also--but I didn't want to mess with putting them back in one of those book style cases every time. Oof.
I’m gonna try this too. I don’t have that many pencils either, but I hate the book thingy, and I like the portability of this storage tray. Michael’s, here I come....with coupons in hand of course.
I like to keep my brands separate and in zippered wallets. My swatches are in a bought book for that purpose from Jade Summer. I'm super organised though!
Michaels sells a 3-tier metal rolling cart. You can take the small bins and place them in the cart. Right now, I have the pencil cases for each brand and stand them on their side 4 to a row in my cart. I don't like how mixed up they get when I use them and put them back, so I am looking for a different solution. Also, some get so short, you can't see them under the little elastic bands (I don't have the heart the throw out the little nubs!) I do use a small tray to put the pencils that are in current use. I also have the wooden pastel drawers, but they don't hold all the pencils in some brands. The dilemma of colorists!!
I currently keep mine in a book, but I'm finding it too tedious always looking for a color. So,I'm on the look out for a better way to keep my pencils in color order, wish me luck. Like you I have about 300 pencils
Does your currently using tray come with the kit or is it another product? I like it I’m currently using a locker organizer for my current project tools
I don't have near the number or variety of pencils you have. But when I sharpen pencils I don't want them to get broken while moving them. So I have packaging foam pieces cut to fit and glued at the end where the pencil point points. I seriously hate to sharpen pencils. Lol
I'm looking forward to seeing how this works for you. I like my pencils sorted by color too but am adding to my stash soon and will need a bigger solution. Curious, do you mix your brands of pencils? I do but i dont have nearly as many lol
So I keep my pencils in books, mostly because I travel with them pretty often, but the number of books themselves are getting a bit ridiculous. However, when I'm home coloring I have a lazy susan style caddie with 5 or 6 different compartments that hold the different color groups I've pulled out for a particular picture. And also any accessories I want on hand. I'll post a picture in the FB group. It's definitely a handy little thing, and it was super inexpensive at Ross (or maybe Marshalls).
Wow looks great! I have 2 Global Art cases, 1 art bin, & a container holding my books. When possible, I buy PDF books / Etsy, & print using mix media or marker paper. (If they’d only made your case an inch or so taller!)
I'm trying to figure out how im going to organize my pencils i would rather have the folder binder case with the separate pencil slots but not trying to pay $15+ for it...😮
Can you please give me links if you can get them on Amazon sure would appreciate it so much. I need something too really really badly don't have that many pencils like you do unfortunately be nice to have thanks so much for your help unfortunately someone is coming can't watch the whole video broke my shoulder have 13 pins and a plate can't move my elbow at all.😔 maybe until march before I can color but love to get to color again. OMG what I would do to have that many prismacolor pencils. I have 72 and have 72. Lollitz pencils but they are hard hurt my hands so mostly stick with the prismacolor pencils. Love to get another set of pencils to use besides my prismacolor pencils one day. Thanks for your help. Merry Christmas. Please let me know a link to the storage case's hopefully first of year I can get them too. 😃
I tried that book and it drives me crazy but I use it for my 72 set I got before my 150. Now I use this binder that holds 216 pencils www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B071H2XB15/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_6?smid=A3CWN84PBBY4PZ&psc=1 with “pages” that clip in and out easily. Each page holds 54 pencils and I use one side per colour group. It can hold more pages that you order separately.
Hi Jennifer, I bought a spice carousel at Walmart years ago. I tried to download pictures but I don't see anywhere that can be done. If you like I will send pictures to an email or FB acct. I'm on FB under the name Carolyn Beam. Now back to the carousel/turntable. Its 12 inches in diameter and can be bought in-house goods at Walmart; perhaps picked up at a second-hand store(which I also did), or you can find them at yard sales. Have pictures ready if you'd like me to send it.
You are not a bit ‘OCD’ ocd is not a adjective it is a condition. Maybe you are a perfectionist but you are not a bit ‘OCD’ you can not be a bit ocd. And they weren’t even very colour organised. I am not trying to be horrible but it was not a reasonable comment. Sorry for being really angry about this but I know many people who have OCD would not like this, I don’t even have OCD and it annoyed me so pls be a bit more mindful of conditions.
