Saying this as a guy: When it comes to hints, 80% of the time we don't recognize them. The other 20% is split between "maybe it's a hint but I won't risk it if she's just being friendly" and "maybe I'll bite in case it's a hint." 100% of the time we don't take the hint, we realize it later on and it unfortunately becomes a core memory.

This audio is actually perfect for the joke earlier, but first! I shall ramble X3 Mindful slowly fumbling and realizing the situation was honestly pretty realistic. They say to be confident in yourself so sometimes… you can be a little *too* confident and accidentally assume things. I like how the listener was fairly understanding of the situation though, explaining what was actually happening with the stares and offering to start as getting to know each other first. (I would be curious too.) It might be interesting to see a reverse of the situation, a shy listener mustering the courage to ask the popular Mindful or Mess out. Or, switch the popularity with a shy Mindful/Mess being asked out by a popular listener. Just a lot of possible combinations really with full or partial reversals. That being said.
