First of all, the weather is nice here. Second, nice Mandela effect on the absence of sound effect when you pick up the milk (?) I just checked on the game and it's so weird to notice that just now, so thank you Ircha Regarding my experience... so far so good! I got the game on xbox and it was cheaper on the digital store of my country (like 30 usd), along with the quick resume feature and just a little bit better graphics have provided a better experience to me. This is a farming sim that is just comfy to jump to inbetween game sessions sometimes (i do that all the time) and QR just helps a lot with that. As you pointed out, the events could have benefited from some good voice acting or at least a more richer dialogue variety. The game is enjoyable if you pick up on a sale and if you like the overall slow pace of it. Thank for your review as usual, it is nice to have your thoughts on all the farm sim-related games!
This was my favorite harvest moon game as a kid so I’m super happy with the remake. But they should of added more… and it shouldn’t be $50 it’s more of a $25 game
This !! I don’t think it’s the game that is turning people off. It’s the price !! If it was 30 bucks or 25 , I think it would be justified from what I am hearing how it is missing a lot from the remake.
I agree totally! I know its a remake but why can’t they bring a bit more to the game? Doing something with the mountain would have been so easy! Who cares if its not in the original one?
I was looking forward to this review. Your SoS/Harvest Moon reviews are the most knowledgeable and best. (As are your Atelier and Pokemon games reviews).
Good review. I want to support the franchise but I kind of regret buying this at full price. I didn't play the original and while I love the graphics, repetitive dialogue drives me nuts. It'd be cool if they remade trio of towns with better graphics
I wish I hadn't pre-ordered it. 😅 Wylde Flowers ruined all other dialogues in games for me and there are so many other farming games nowadays...this is a nostalgia kind of purchase
I love your reviews, and I agree with you. You have a good point. However, I have to disagree with leaving this game in the past with nostalgia. This game needed a faithful remake, making a comeback while staying true to the original. It wasn't accessible on all platforms; it was practically lost in old consoles and obsolete ways. Whenever I wanted to play this game, I had to download an emulator and use unauthorized methods to play. All I ever wanted was a chance to play this game properly on my Nintendo Switch, and I wouldn't be happy if they changed the whole experience in a remake. So, I'm still up for remakes of the old SOS/HM games, but they need to be updated like this one to be accessible on all consoles and PC. I'll leave my expectations for something new in the upcoming games and titles. That's where I'm looking for changes, not in this game. For this game, I'm searching for that feeling of being a little boy of 15 years old, falling in love with this amazing, cozy farming game. I'm in love with this game. I've been playing for hours, and I have to say, it's still one of the best SOS/HM games of the franchise. Love you so much, Ircha! ♥
Great review as always and I agree with everything you said. I think I prefer this game sometimes when choosing between opening Wylde Flowers or this because I want something truly chill where I don't have to think too much. But yeah overall, Wylde Flowers is much much better.
I was really excited for this remake, since I sold my gamecube and games and haven’t played it in years, but after two weeks of playing, I’ve moved on to replaying Pioneers of Olive Town for a more dynamic gameplay. 😅
Thank you for making this video. I have a daughter on the ASD and I am never sure what type of game or games she would like. She enjoys these games, and your review has been very helpful. Thank you!
It blows my mind that great games like Stardew or Wylde Flowers are only €15 and provide engaging story and smooth gameplay, and for this (tbh very outdated) remake they charge over €50! The only thing that comes into my mind is “nostalgia”. Otherwise I don’t see what to pay for.
And I would like to say our condolences to your cat. We recently had to put down our family cat of the last 16years and it was not an easy thing to do. God Bless
I just love the face you're making in the thumbnail and my opinion of the game is that I like it and I'm glad that I picked up a copy on launch day and I'm still playing it👍👍👍
At this point I feel like the quality of Story of Seasons games we've had have dropped down in quality. I never played the original A Wonderful Life on the Gamecube, but this one's pretty decent. I think the last SoS game I enjoyed was Friends of Mineral Town, and even then it was due to me being nostalgic for the original GBA title. There are so many superior farming games that do a better job these days. I'm cautiously optimistic about the upcoming SoS game though!
Hey, how's the weather? Great review! Thanks for pointing out there's a lot of negatives here as the developers seemed to try to half-modernize it. I never played the original version and will probably stick with Harvest Moon 64 and Stardew Valley.
Sub courtesy of Jeremy from The Quartering. Sorry to hear about your cat. I've had to bury many of mine over the years. Just remember you gave it all the love you could and it's life was better with your love. Once you've had time to mourn, get a couple of kittens. I got 2 sisters 2 months ago and they are an absolute delight.
It's good to see you. I played this game on PS2 Special Edition. Whatever that meant. IT was my favorite Harvest Moon game. I may pick it up later down the line. Enjoy your day Ircha.
The Quartering, made a video telling the masses about the loss of your cat, and asked we come and try to push you over 100k. So I am here thanks to him, and because I like cats and gaming, and you show off some interesting games. Condolences on your loss, good luck getting over 100k. Be well.
I've just played Olive town in terms of the new SoS games, but used to love the old HM and SoS games on the DS and 3DS. I spent over 100 hours on Olive town getting the platinum trophy on PS5. I have Mineral town free from the PS catalog, but of course want to play this at some point also. I do prefer bubble cows and the more cutesy designs of the other games, and all the bachelors are really ugly which is disappointing (they could have added someone good looking idol looking boy like Raegar, Kamil etc..) or dlc candidate, but the game seems interesting. The fact that I hate all the marriage candidates and this game forced you to get married.... will be hard for me to overcome
Came over from the quartering stayed for the review! I don’t disagree with this I find that while I’m super nostalgic about the game it feels quite dated. Also while I believe cheaper options that are superior I do feel that the problem is that they aren’t indie so the whole process is more expensive but at the same time it is more widely available to most consumer. Hoping they use this and the previous friends of mineral town as learning points to build upon future titles! And again awesome review loved the vid!
This game was awesome back in the day, but we've come so far in terms of farming/life sim games that this definitely feels like it was stuck in time, even with the improvements.
Well, it's still awesome, even if it has the rustic feel. But for newcomers who want to play old games and want to replay a classic, this is the better version. However, if people want a new feel, this isn't it.
Jeremy at the Quartering mentioned you in one of his segments. So sorry about your kitty cat. You're a good person for helping him as much as you did. God bless. 🤗
I am in year three, and the dialogue is starting to be exhaustive. However, I appreciate a lot of the 'selection' dialogue and personality. Mostly I get annoyed at shopping dialogue boxes and the fusion plant dialogue boxes, being so slow.
GREETINGS FROM THE UK, AS A CAT 🐈 LOVER, FEEL YOUR PAIN, STILL LONG FOR MY CATS I HAD IN THE 1990S, JEREMY FROM THE QUARTERING CHANNEL MENTIONED YOU!👍🇿🇦🇬🇧🇿🇦🇬🇧 SUBSCRIBED👍👍
I didn't pick this one up and I probably won't. I didn't really love the Mineral Town remake and I figured this would be the same. I prefer more modern farming games. I just started Rune Factory 5 and holy cow I love it!
I might get this when it's cheaper. I still have the Gamecube version, but I was never a huge fan of it. The quality of life improvements are tempting me, though.
This and one of the Wii ones were the two best looking Harvest Moon games ever and in this remake they Story of Seasonsified the visuals and they don't look as good. It was a very immersive game back then. I crave fro a proper 3D good-looking harvest sim, and I hoped Harvestella would be just that, but it was terrible.
The Quartering sent me here. Much love to you and the loss of your cat. I rescue them and they are a dear part of my life and soul. I send much healing to you and thank you for giving your cat the best you could give it. God bless!
Harvest Moon was so charming and fun growing up. I cant say the same for the newer HM and something about the SoS series is also a little off the mark. I'd honestly rather play the old ones.
So sorry to here about your cat. I know how you feel, I lost my ginger boy, called Kirk, a long time ago, but still think about him. It get's better, just takes time. I hope this helps, if not, please forgive my forwardness.
Hello I’m a listener of the quartering and he had said how you have recently lost your cat and I’m so sorry for your loss. As a cat dad sending positive vibes and 2am zoomies from Ganon,Toast,Pepper,Chad and Sir Toe Beans. Best of luck hitting 100k subs!!!
Wow, it really has been a while since a 'buy or not' video! I've honestly missed them - though I love your other stuff too!! I'm not sure if I'll pick this up - there's so much else to play, and I'm not sure I want to invest the time needed for such a simple, old game. I'll add it to the list of 'maybe someday' games, I guess (and then never get around to it 😅).
As a cat owner myself a know how much joy those selfish bags of fur can bring to your life. and I can't imagine how devastating the loss must be. so, my condolences for the loss of your loved one. P.S. Jeremy from The Quartering told us about your loss... and now you have a new subscriber. hope you get to 100k.
Hi! Jeremy sent me over to check out your channel. You seem like a kind soul and I enjoyed checking out a few of your reviews. I went ahead and subbed. I'm looking forward to checking out more of your content soon. I wish all of the best for you and yours.
The only problems with the game is the price, like here in Spain is cost the same as tears of the kingdoms and that pretty high, thank god second hand exist but still… I never played the original so this look super cool but yes, must have some seatback for being well a remake, but still is one of the one with more opportunities here this games than the last others two before to make the saga have more new people enter it
I really like it! Still has the charm of the original we know and love and like how it runs super well still and didn't end up like poor Special Edition and I like the things they did add. Only think I hate about the remake is how the changed the timing, so you always wake up at 6am, I loved in the original how it was the only game which was realistic in the aspect the time you woke was depending on what time you went to bed, and also because you could make the day as long or as short as you desired depending on what you wanted to do that day, it bothers me they just have it as a fixed time like all the other games now, I know some people didn't like that feature but was honestly one of my favourite parts of AWL.
i love they force you to get married, it's my first time getting married in harvest moon game to a guy(Yay!!!) My only other marriage is to Tona(in Chinese)/Raven in ruin factory 3 ds.
One thing, i actually heard that the animals can't die no more in this game cuz of high complaints and demand for the original one that it made the kids cried when their animals died which honestly, it's kind of a bullshit it makes the game less interesting
I have played this game through multiple times on both Gamecube and PS2, it has always been my favorite OG farming game, especially when they released DS Cute where I was able to play as a girl finally. I have yet to buy this on Switch and was hoping to know if they kept the part where you can open your own shop and sell to the residents? It seems like no modern farming sim that I've come across so far has this feature and I always like the idea of collecting items and selling them to villagers, and being able to offer discounts and such. Can anyone confirm or deny if this game has still this feature?
Coming to you channel based on the suggestion from the Quartering. I’ve seen your videos before, but not subscribed until now. Great content, sorry to hear about your cat.❤
I just learned about you and your beloved cat from Jeremy @TheQuartering. I subscribed and just wanted you to know that you are not alone in your loss…I certainly understand the heartache and I appreciate your devotion to your lovely kitty!!!🙏🌹♥️
I’ve gotta say I was really worried about this game and hooded off buying it but I love it. The “life sim” element isn’t as big as I thought and you can farm most of the time. It’s no worse than Stardew Valley in my mind.
The Quartering sent me to spread the ❤. We all with pets have so many happy furry memories and will get so many more memories in our furry futures. Always more cats needing ❤.
I 100% agree with you when you said that you feel like this experience was better left in the past. I see this game as a total nostalgia bait -- and as a huge fan of the original game and setting (playing the gamecube original, female "another" version, and the two DS versions) and I am very disappointed in this experience. I mean even the DS VERSION of this game had WAYY more content than this remake. There really isnt any excuse given how we have remakes such as the Resident Evil 4 remake that totally builds the game from the ground up and introduces new gameplay and story elements (parrying mechanic, new redone luis chapter, etc) In this game, they actually KEPT IN archaic gameplay mechanics and designs in their REMAKE. Like navigating Vesta's shop is exactly the same as it was in the original and its horribly dated. They kept in the mechanic where you have to buy every item 1 item type at a time and its so infuriatingly lazy. They couldnt even design a new menu so that you can buy everything you want all at once! Everything here is recycled. Improvements are minor quality of life changes at best and usually totally visual. Dialogue is repetitive and does nothing to really inform you about the person's character (you really hit the nail on the head when you said that ALL they talk about is the weather, cuz its so true). After 4 chapters (in game - a whole decade has passed) Vesta is still telling me the same thing she said when we first met. Like in the original, YOUR FAMILY is the only thing that changes and evolves in the valley. Nobody else gets married or has children, and remain as static as ever, regurgitating the same thing they said when they first met you in Spring Year 1. So much of my original complaints for the original game can still be applied here. In the REMAKE of this game. This game is NOT a remake. Just a RESKIN. And I urge everyone to not buy this game, as it does not deserve at $50 price tag
Ok can anyone help. Why does my animals health deplete even when i am feeding the best fodder, put them out when weather nice and give them plenty of brushing etc?
I was on the fence whether to get this since I also own this for my GameCube. :) I think I'll just keep it on GameCube and get something else that's newer.
Currently, it's discounted by 40%, which seems like a good deal. However, I tend to be quite picky when deciding whether or not to purchase a game. I have a habit of sticking to one game, which is ACNH Sometimes, I play Overwatch, but that's about it. I used to have more variety in my gaming preferences when I was a child, but that's no longer the case, and I'm not sure why. It's not that I find Animal Crossing incredibly entertaining; it can become monotonous. I'm actually hoping to find a similar game with more emphasis on farming. However, it's as if I'm unable to enjoy other games, and there's a high risk of losing interest in a new game after purchasing it. I'm still contemplating whether to buy it, but I'm feeling hesitant.
I love it and am having a great time playing it rn, but it definitely has its problems. I just think it didn't have to be quite so faithful to the source material, they could have and really should have added more content since it is supposed to be a remaster, which was basically the same problem I had with SoS FoMt
Do you or anyone have any alternatives for this game you can recommend? I played this game as a kid and loved it but now days I feel like the Harvest-like genre is so oversaturate and became so much more convoluted. I don't mind a little more depth than this game offers but if there's to much I get overwhelmed. I've tried Stardew multiple times but it just doesn't click with me for one reason or another.
I personally really love HM Ds and Ds Cute, as well as SoS Trio of Towns, I think they may be more up your ally. Also can not suggest Rune Factory 4 enough
I didn’t get this. I played the original, and I was drowning in new games (a good thing). I haven’t seen any great reviews about it, so I just didn’t bother. Did the remake have Tartan?
I like the game a lot but as in the original it was kind of litle to do in the end they could have put in like misions to uppgrade the valey ore something but in the end realy nice to get ttto play this again :).
