I love how Linus is so close and so nice to every single employee he has. He even lets them steal stuff from the office! Great guy and I'm so glad that he's so successful. All deserved.
@@dylanm7136 i think all the stole things are extra stuff that is lying in office... Linus don't need them for actual use... Like lan cable and all... Even MAC book... This all are tech and they'll get out dated soon...
@@dylanm7136 from what ive heard, and this is totally heresay, theyre mostly reviewed products that the office wouldnt have a use/space for anyways… and theyre ‘stolen’ bc linus cant just give them away
ive heard in some videos that they are signed out, so basically like checking out a book at a library. awesome nonetheless and i am jealous of their job! :)
Legitimately laughed for a good bit at that. Just watching the phases of Linus: Incredulous - "We can't just let people have two macbooks!" Shook - "Fuck.." Resignation - "...he's right." Done - _Walks away_
@@Kigoz4Life do you realise that when they say stealing they don't actually mean that the stole it? They're allowed to check stuff out of their inventory I'm sure. Obvs they're not just letting people walk out the door with thousands of $$
I love, how everyone who normaly isn´t infront of the camera is still like a very funny and entertaining person. someone is doing a great job hiring people!
I remember when Linus started out doing LTT way back it seemed like Linus was the front man and there was an office or two of mysterious next level computer wizzes behind the scenes doing all the hard work. Then LTT expanded and became more transparent and I thought we'd met everyone. Turns out there IS a few offices of minions in the background, or at least one.
I just love that blank look Linus has when he mentions "I have this long ethernet cable I stole from work" after already having found a half dozen devices that ended up in his house that should be in the office.
Ah yes and I got fired for keeping 10 dollars out of 300 dollars of tips I got as waiter one night. So I shake my head at people saying Linus is a bad boss. If my old boss showed up saying he's got 5 grand to remake my home entertainment system, I would check myself into a psych ward because I clearly lost my mind.
@@221b-l3t Linus is not a bad boss. But everyone that has a company and knows his shit has this "initial phase "kind of deal where they put newcoments through tough time in first 3-6 months. Because if there is ever "shit-hits-a-fan" situation, you need people you can rely on.
@@221b-l3t Damn, that's absolutely disgraceful. Your ex-employer should be ashamed. I wonder if people would still tip if they knew just how often the money goes to the boss?
@@jamescollins6085 When he wasn't there ans I was in a particularily bad mood I refused tips. Rich people, I don't care too much, just killed me to have to seem grateful, knowing I was broke and could use it. But if it was like a mom taking a few kids out to for lunch then no I vehemtly refused tips. If they asked I said we can't keep them. Which quite a few customers ask specifically before they tip. It's not like the US where waiters only make tips, we do have a salary but tips is still why anyone woukd take such a stressful job for that pay. There is better for more. But if you are good at small talk and all that you can end up earning A LOT. I have "received" over 100€ in tips many times. 20 people at a table all well fed, drunk and happy, first gives 20 bucks and the rest follow to not seem cheap, even apologising for only a 10€ which was more than I made an hour (9€). It's funny to stumble across this thread again because the restaurant is out of business. Bankrupt, failed, article in the news an all (it once upon a time was a succesful restaurant frequented by high society such as our POS major I had the pleasure of ignoring once (first come first serve haha). So the reviews are all quite dire. I got the boot about 3 years ago. Lots of reviews saying how good it was then... haha. I got the last laugh. We have a beautiful German word called Schadenfreude, that even some Americans are familiar with.
He's said it's like 60 employees and I don't really remember if he did at least 10 now or not yet. I think it's enough for a long time. I can join LTT if needed 👀
Hoffman is hilarious, also the gold washers and screws with the matching cable combs was a nice aesthetic touch. I could see this being a trend since it's probably $40 worth of bling with the cable mod cables.
It's fun to see all the faces from behind the scenes that we don't typically see. Really makes LMG feel like this big somewhat chaotic family. Also love the hair
This series is so good, I think to everyone. Employees getting a ton of free shit, the channel getting good content out of it, and Intel getting great marketing out of it.
@@LegionRRTX Let me say it so: It's in many media and other companies, that the guys who do the merchandise and design stuff use macs - they are good for that. But we all know that they run their whole editing department and most other departments on Windows and/or Linux, and that's for a good reason: since Apple killed Final Cut with Version X, nobody in media uses it anymore, but Adobe. And Adobe can be used on Windows - and that means instead of having a computer where the company decides what graphic power you have you can just go with a normal desktop tower and put the fastest GPU and CPU you can get into it and will still be cheaper than a Mac Pro Cheesegrid, coupled with water cooling and many other features. In 2022 only real big Apple Fanbois and Gals still use Apple for video editing (mostly RU-vidrs who just have a MacBook Pro), but the industry is using Windows and Adobe. So of course they don't need much MacBooks at LTT, because outside of the designer Team and some editors for their scripts nobody will need them. And I'll bet Anthony prefers Linux :D
You think Intel just gives thousands to each Linus tech worker for free? its directly bribing every worker to skew their opinions of Intel products when they review them.
I freaking love this series. It's great seeing them all together, but seeing everyone get that QT with the boss and peeking in at their personalities, etc. is so much fun.
Don't know if Linus is a pushover and every one these guys taking advantage stealing thousands of dollars of office equipment and computers all the time and thinking its funny being a thief, directly taking money out of his and this company's pockets, or if Linus is just joking. I can only imagine the stuff that isn't visible or given away/ sold off. Even if it isnt used normally those things are sold and put back into the company.
@@Mojo_Dojo333 As conscious as Linus is about being smart with money, I promise you, he's joking. I'd put money on it these things can be checked out from LMG if it's not being actively used for content or production and this equipment is still on the master inventory along with paperwork of who signed out what, when, and in what condition. "Everyone steals shit from LMG and doesn't so much as try to hide it when Linus comes over." is much better content though.
The over USB power/voltage/surge error is 100% the keyboard. It looked like a keychron board, and I have a similar problem with a keychron I have. Trying to charge it via USB throws a voltage error on my computer and disables the port to protect from damage. Luckily it is wireless, so I just charge it from the wall when needed. I've found a few other people who have run into similar problems with Keychron boards online, so while it seems to be rare, it isn't unique.
How about the HIGHROCK 30cm USB 2.0 a Power Enhancer Y 1 Female to 2 Male Data Charge Cable Extension Cord(1pc)? It seems to just take two ports to give one super port.
that would make sense as to why the USB-C would semi fix the issue because allot of USB C ports have more power to support those USB-C Expansion card dongles
Hoffman seems like a genuinely great guy, so funny and entertaining to watch. The team is made up of great people, everyone seems really down to earth and great company.
Such an Apple thing to do, "Hey do you have any advice for cleaning the case" "Yes. You buy a new one 💰" Hoffman's sass level is far above everyone elses.
That portrait on the wall is the most hilariously chaotic object ever. It's weird to begin with, then Linus attempts to take it off the wall and examine it for reasons we don't fully understand, he then unveils the missing paint behind it and the double-sided tape, puts it back on crooked, and then it even finds a way to get loose and slam into the other wall during the same visit.
yeah like how he is asking them "is this from the office" like a fucking money obsessed control freak (which he is). he prolly does not even pay the best wages...
The fact that you just shoved the cables in there and then say on it to close it is exactly how I've done it in the past and makes me love these videos that much more.
You dont need to take the whole front panel off of the 4000d. The front middle panel with all of the triangle holes can be removed and then you can remove the fan filter and get access to all the screw holes for the fans. I just did a build almost exactly like this last week and had a similar struggle
This is the best tech upgrade episode so far Hoffman is such a natural person No playing a character He even acts cool with his boss and no other employee did that in their video
i'm surprised members of the team like nick, brandon, taran have yet to have theirs done even though they've been on the team for so long, but i have been deeply enjoying all these episodes so far. i hope this series just keeps on going!
I think Nick is not going to get an upgrade, because he's on chief executive level, just like Yvonne, Linus, and technically Luke (except that he's an exec in a different company). The directing managers, James and Edzel got theirs. I think Brandon is coming next
Things Linus says all the time: "We need to hire another editor/reviewer/lab tech" Things Linus has never said: "We need to hire a loss prevention specialist" #LTTatHomeInventory
Company usually just writes it up as loss item and get a tax cut, so it's a win-win situation. But in all honesty, most of his employees would end up in jail for theft if they worked for non-tech MNCs like McDonalds, Prudential, etc. Tech companies are usually much more liberal than that, since a lot of stuff are either freebies or tech samples meant for in-house projects.(eg. Like how the original Xbox alpha OS got leaked out because a former Microsoft engineer's old MacIntosh got sold by his family). I used to work at Oracle and Cloudflare, things go missing all the time. They would just write it up as a loss because too many people go in and out of the office. The real important stuff will never be just left around for easy access where employees could take them, so there was never any worries. It really is only useful to people who has wanted you fired and was just waiting to catch you doing something wrong.
I've really loved getting to k ow the editors better. I don't normally like sponsored content, but it's been great getting to know the staff better, even when intels cpus were kind of rough. It's even more fun with the 12th gen cpus for the builds.
If LMG has 60 people in the office (4:53), then the 15 Intel Extreme Upgrade videos out right now means we're 1/4 of the way from everyone getting an upgrade. And here I thought that beginning over a year and a half ago, we'd only see a handful of upgrades lol
Really love the Intel extreme tech upgrade series and man every new episode gets me thinking "this is my new favorite episode". It just gets better and better. Love it.
That bit about the apple mouse was really clever. Tape over the sensor and it’s an easy power point clicker.. neat! Also I hadn’t considered the ergonomics of an easy travel mouse like that. Makes the product make more sense to me now. Even if it wasn’t meant for that exact usage.
I actually don't have that many problems in my 10 square meter room, albeit I do have it basically designed for music production and the only reason it is "my room" is because I sleep in there, so it's basically a studio with a couch :)
the speakers are way too big for the room. Hs7 would have been enaugh. Also they are to close to the wall. Should be at least 50-100cm away from the wall....
Absolutely loved Hoffman taking the piss out of everyone at LMG (including Linus). This was hilarious! Want to see a short of someone at LMG beating Hoffman's record!
Hoffman must have been such a LTT fanboi before becoming a member. The way he shrieks at ″are we building this together? -Yes″ is just so precious. Made my day!
I love that antec case he was going to use for his NAS. I had one and they even sent me a replacement I/O board for the front with USB 3.0 when that became available. Antec was great back in the day. Nothing could come close to the number of fans and storage this monster would hold...
Can I just say how good a boss Linus is? I mean, he lets his staff take from the office things that they probably don't need in the office anymore, but then theoretically they're still fixed assets of the company. He treats his staff so well, not just the stuff but also just being a decent human to them. It's a really good work culture at LTT. I bet nobody ever wants to leave LTT because they're frustrated at the work environment.
I love these vids. You learn so much about LTT as a team. I love getting to know about the background staff. All from the racing competition to Andy's kid spelling "LTT" cutely are the things that make me smile.
I never heard of adding those washers to motherboard mountings screws before now either. They're sorta cool, if you're in to accentuating the mounting points rather than trying to hide them.
me with my pc build by a friend. damn those screws ugly. i painted em black. my friend: thought u said u dont care about aesthetics? me: but they where damn silver on a full black pc :D
at 15 seconds my girlfriend and I both screamed puppy. this is the first time I have ever gotten her to agree to watch youtube videos I normally watch alone, and now she is cooking dinner and watching random LTT videos, so thanks for showing the dog, and being so wonderful Linus that you have pushed my girlfriend to being truly interested in my hobbies.
I'm starting to believe Linus just put a lot of cool stuffs and new techs lying around all over the office for his employees to bring home, then he acts surprised when he sees those stuffs in his employee's places. But it all meant to be given away for them from the beginning anyway. He doesn't want to show his sweet and generous side too much, but his urge to give and share can't be helped so he does it secretly.
I have to say, I find that Linus / Linus Media Group has built a company of very charismatic and pleasant seeming people. I really appreciate that in these videos.
I have that same case for my home server/nas. Despite being an older case, all the drive bays make it nice. Plus it has some foam in the sides for sound dampening. I used it for my main system up until about a year ago because of how quiet it was. I have a 16tb exos drive for my plex media, and then 4x 4tb WD Red drives in two raid 5's for more crucial data with a Ryzen 9 5900x, 64gb of Vengence LPX 3600mhz, it's a fun little home sever/nas. Funny enough I also have my main system in a 5000D, but it's black, and I run a 1000 watt version of the same PSU.
@RU-vid Censorship what does it even matter wether asian people ''blend in'' or not. it's stereotyping and an narrow minded of viewing societies and people.
This is the video I've enjoyed most so far in this series. Hoffman gives positive vibes definitely. I like him, he should be presenting in some of the videos.
God I get excited when I see these. I grab a cup of tea and kick back, relax and enjoy. Just quality wholesome experience with Linus in the wild. It's so intriguing to see what people will do with the option of a budget to upgrade! Pretty sick content all around
As this series has been going on for while. (I love it!) With all the rising tech prices , someone who did this like 10 months ago has effectively $5500 budget compared to today. Is there any allowance for rising prices due to current affairs. Or was when this series was in pre production, everyone pre allocated their specs based on 20xx prices at the time?
As seen in previous videos, most of the LTT members had their ordered upgrades in there house for months before Linus came bye for shooting the video. So I guess all staff members ordered their upgrade wishes in the same period.
If I remember correctly they're allowed to use MSRP for all the parts and if something is hard to get (like a GPU) they're able to source it from their industry contacts or from their warehouse.
Hey all it's been a minute- I agree with the comments. Great video and Hoffman was awesome. Maybe it's the west coast but it's tough finding such cool folks! Make Canadians proud!
Every time i rewatch this, I get done by the messenger ding at the start...Every. Single. Time! 😂. I really love this series, cant wait to see more Hoffman and more Extreme Tech Upgrades!!
I really hope they're just joking about stealing stuff from work. It might not be a big deal to Linus, but if they can just 'steal' and get away with it, at some point it'll become a real problem.
@@miukku111 yeah nabbing things like Ethernet cables or old mice that aren’t in use anymore is one thing. But that’s ballsy to walk out with 2 brand new M1’s
me and my friend work IT and pc repair. so what he did once was take a works gpu. but the downside was. if he ever got fired he had to give it back or if held longer or wanted pay back. now here is the kicker. during the big gpu craze his gpu he ''borrowed' went up in price and he was forced to pay for it... such a shit boss. i work small pc repair and i only ever took some headsets no one wanted at either discount or free. hell even once a semi faulty laptop. but the whole stealing thing... yeah i think they do have a policy / sheet of loans. or know eachother good enough that they wont steal.
Which ones do you have? I recently got a pair of PreSonus Eris E8 XT (along with the matching Temblor T10 sub) and I could not be happier. Best sound I have ever heard, and all things considered, a fantastic price.
This is the first time I felt that Linus was upset about the stolen tech. The 2 brand new MBs are worth a lot more than just some old mouse. Also it is wholesome as Linus seemed upset not by the stealing of the MBs but by the fact that it is unfair to the other employees as it would not be sustainable for everyone to steal MBs.
Ya I agree, this clueless pc building dude did NOT need to take a new M model from the office, and the fact he had like 5 other apple products didnt make it any better
And then his complains fell flat on his face after he realized that Hoffman was right about nobody besides himself ever using MBs and those were just on the shelf, uselessly gathering dust. After that bit of logic Linus face just changes to "crap, he is right and I can't even make a contra argument without resorting to a shallow 'because I'm the boss and I said so' ".
