that buckle type thing looks like a book lock where you would put a strap through it to close the book but i could be wrong tho

We have an antique store down the road, that has old travel chests. The curved buckle looks like the straps they have on the old chests! The upper straight part is attached to th trunk, and the curved part is sticking out to thread the strap through it. What a find! Looks exactly like it! I don’t think it was originally bent up that far. The ones on the old chest here, is slightly bent just enough to thread the strap thru. Hmmm…hey Fred’s! Looking good. Smart young man you are!
