I always remember watching an episode of Hoarders, where the guys house was far worse than this, and the therapist asked him what 5 items he would grab if his house was on fire. He said his glasses, his medication, his car keys, his wallet and his cat. The look of realisation on his face after he answered her was something else. I hope this person finds her moment of realisation. Great video as usual 👌 👍 👏
We were staying in a hotel for a while while we were "homeless". A room like 6 doors down caught fire I was making burritos for dinner and my husband's lunch. Anyway APPARENTLY I would save the burritos, my pop, my cigarettes, my cat and dog, and my husband last.. 🤦🏼♀️🤣
Im a teen, and i absolutely love your channel. My mom and I deep cleaned my bedroom a couple months ago, and i rearanged my bedroom so i could see more of the floor. I found out that i have hoarding tendencies because I have both Autism and ADD. I keep things for projects and completely forget I have them. With my room being cleaned ive found ive been doing a lot better, and these videos keep me aware of what i do and dont need. I appreciate you sharing your journeys as you clean :D

1) My apology to you is that I'm ever so sorry I made you hurt your shoulder. May you heal soon and feel better. 2) Your understanding of hoarders/hoarding is wicked good and you are wonderful not blaming anyone for this disease! 3) Will be looking forward to more spin kicks, cleaning, and be good Johnny so you can travel to Charlotte once more. God Bless!!
Hoping you are doing better. Looking forward to see more videos which will confirm that you are. There is a bunch of strangers here that wish you all the best. A heartfelt Merry Christmas in advance ❤️
I’m autistic. ( I know you are.) I’m really good at lifting/carrying/moving things that are heavy and hurting myself. In my family we lovingly call it “stupid strong”. In my case my muscles can handle a lot more weight than my bones/joints can. So without thinking (stupid) I snag up heavy things and take off with them and knock joints out of place and cause myself other injuries. Take care of yourself, you are the only you that you get.
Hope you feel better soon. Tough job to do. I grew up in a hoarder house. It’s a challenge for those who live in it. The only clean room was my room, the kitchen and the TV room. A year before my mom died, I just bit the bullet and cleared it all away (the hoard) while my mom was in the hospital. She was able to come home because her home was clean! She thanked me not long before she died. She had a clean home and people would come visit again. I hope this woman gets better and part with the hoard and live a better life.
She might benefit from watching a hoarder’s heart. She is a recovering hoarder that has decluttered so much in the last several years little by little. She talks about the mentality behind hoarding and what works best for her as a hoarder to be able to get rid of things.
Thanks for sharing that. I’m going to look into it. I have a tendency for clutter that could easily turn into hoarding n I find understanding it helps me avoid it SO much!
I watched exactly 2 minutes and was given the ability to convince my husband that his side of the wardrobe needed clearing out...hangers with dusty shouldered jackets, yellowing off white t shirts and too small trousers. His low self esteem saw him clinging onto a past slimmer younger self and didn't want to face those clothes. So I did it for him and now he's very grateful bless him. Thank you for the boot up my ass and I hope your shoulder gets better.
The stuff you said at the 6-minute mark just hit me. My partner's family is in that scenario. Hoarding is mostly mom's fault, but then a single sibling has added to the hoard, MOVED OUT, and left their hoard, so it's a combo hoard. The other siblings are minimalist as heck, they all thought they had a ton of stuff until they moved out and realized they own basically nothing and keep a tidy house. I'm cleaning my partner's half of the house right now and they live bare bones, even more so now after we clean the leftover sibling hoard. Other items siblings want but can't physically reach because of the hoard. There's an entire sewing desk under all the hoard that is useful, valuable, and wanted and nobody can reach it.
I have to admit, I thought the same thing. I've known people like this who have binge-purge cycles, almost like hoarder bulimia. They hit a purge point, and then see all that open space, and get even more stuff to fill it. I hope this family makes the progress they need to avoid that.
@@jcortese3300 I lived with a person with hoarding tendencies and every time I cleaned off the kitchen table so there was enough room for me to eat breakfast, she'd go out and buy a whole bunch of food she couldn't eat and completely cover the table with it. I don't know why they have the urge to fill empty space, but they do. I think the empty space does make them feel happy because it feels like things are more under control, but then they ride that wave to make a bunch of purchases to make themselves even more happy, and, well, quickly ruin it.
So reminds me of my mother's house. Rooms you couldn't even get in to. So many clothes, enough to open a clothes store or cloth many other people. But hoarders don't realize they have a problem or think they never have enough. You do a great thing for these folks. Get better and take a rest.
I am so glad I found you. My friend/neighbor is a hoarder. She is at the point where just having skinny aisles to walk through with small debris to step on. The lady that owns this house sounds like my neighbor. And for under ovens and fridges I use a yard stick. At my house the only things I find under them is cat toys ! I hope your feeling better!
I really hope she calls you in the future when she’s ready, cuz it’s going to be a really beautiful full circle moment for you and her. I’m sure she has a long road ahead and I am just all in my feeling right now knowing that this person is on the path to healing.
It is a process. I hope she gets the help she needs. Take it easy. No spin kicks or one ups on Jason. Just kick back and chill. Your shoulder will thank you!
Thank you for donating! I tell myself that my fill-in-the-blank will make someone else happy to use it instead of me holding onto it. I still have a ways to go though!
Take care, Two-Tub Power Lifter Johnny from Austin ☮️ I watched a UK show on hoarding where a woman transferred her mothers entire hoard to a warehouse! She sorted it by type (shoes, clothes, kitchen, mementos, furniture, etc) with a mountainous trash pile in the corner (wrappers, empties, food etc) She then cleaned, repaired, painted her mothers home so it was sound, empty and functional. When her mother saw the enormity of the hoard as well as her home as she’d not seen it in some time, it was very powerful. It was the most radically transformative, productive method I’ve ever seen regarding a hoarding situation. Usually the hoarder puts up resistance and every item has to be touched and gone over, it seems excruciating for all involved! I wish the Dr Pepper Hoarder all the very best on her journey 🕊
I truly hope this woman and her daughter get better! Thanks for being an example of such a human and compassionate person (and be careful lifting those mooses next time, mr. wizard!)
I have a rule in my own house, if an item is stored for 6 months and not used, touched, or brought out, then it’s not worthy of my space and has got to go. It took me a lot of years to get to this point, but I am just not willing to take up my space with stuff that means nothing. I truly wish her luck in her therapy.😊
@@diahegge5395My father has 50 or more hats hug neatly along wall in entry way...people have him, places he went. My mother has 60 coffee ups neatly over stove on pegboard beautiful cups for decoration she could afford when they first started out, plus people would give her as gifts later. My mother said to my father to get rid of some of your hats, he said to her, ok, if you get rid of some of your coffee cups... conversation over...😂❤!
This gave me anxiety, not exactly sure why. Thinking one reason is knowing that you injured your shoulder. Twice. This coming from someone who has needed a shoulder replacement for two years, but keep putting it off because I’m a big scaredy-cat. 🫤When I watch you organize, I always think to myself you make it look so easy. But when I’m standing in front of my “stuff“ it feels impossible. I am in therapy and do feel like I’m getting closer to a breakthrough. Thank you Mr. Whoever you are this week Johnny! ☺️♥️ You Rock! 🤘🏼
Oh my. This video makes me want to purge my clothing closet which is organized by color, sleeve length etc. Most haven't been worn since my son shot himself in 2019 (caused my weight loss of over 60 lbs) and retiring from a professional insurance agent in Dec 2021. I've gone from an XL to a S/M due to stress. I just hate to throw perfectly good clothing out and I'm not a fan of dealing with garage sales for clothes. Thank you so much for these videos. Every video you do leads me to do so many purges in my home.
I’m very sorry to hear you injured your shoulder. I hope you got home safely and are on the mend now. You did an amazing job in the room and the fact that you have it organised in the totes will hopefully make it easier for this woman whenever she is able to start going through them. You are going to have to ask Post 10 what a moose sounds like 😂 Wishing you a speedy recovery and a great week. Mary, Joes wife 👏👍💪🤞🙏💐
I’m helping clean a similar hoard. She hoarded because she’s lonely 😢, and she’s lonely because she hoards. We’ve come to the conclusion that instead of mourning the loss of her husband properly, she went shopping at yard sales. 30 years later, we have 30 years worth of yard sale “treasures”.
If the bed frame is not salvageable, you might be able to get a platform frame, attach the head and foot boards and create additional storage underneath while keeping the aesthetic of the bedroom set. I hope you feel better soon 🥰
As someone who's dealt with trauma, id encourage this woman to look into EMDR. It's an incredible type of therapy that can heal in one session something that could take 3 months in traditional talk therapy. It completely changed my life, and is appropriate for all types of trauma. She'd just need to work with a certified therapist. Regardless, I hope she keeps healing 💜
So sorry you injured your shoulder. I know that horrendous pain. Thanks for doing this, you're always so understaning and caring. It helps your viewers to be more understanding. God bless you and the ladies who are getting the help they need.
I just found out I’m a level one hoarder. I have stuff in every room that needs to be sorted and given a home. I’m very discouraged but don’t have the energy or stamina to get it done. I’ve been trying to do a little bit at a time. I really want to get the downstairs done because I have a robot vacuum that can keep it picked up, if I can get it cleaned up.
So sorry that you’re hurting - I can’t imagine how you managed to push through… praying you will feel right as rain in no time! I did want to note that you do so much for ppls morale, offering to pay for the dumpster? Amazing! You’re being a real agent of healing across the board for sure!
To the family in this video- you can do it. You. Can. Do. It. You can start picking out the most favorite beautiful things and start setting some items free. I have been in a place where life was so stressful I would come home and barely manage basic tasks. Then as family members passed away, items came to my place to sort. Then we didn't know my grandpa's house also had my mom's things that relatives took as I was young when she passed. There also was a mystery storage unit. It can be incredibly overwhelming and there are times where you say screw it. You have a great resource with MMC, you all can keep at it, bit by bit. Big hugs!
Just watched your July 8th major crazy nuts hoarder video. Not only are you a Wizard…you are a Magical Wizard. I am completely flabbergasted at your folding abilities. You would win any folding contest in the world. The help you are offering this family so generously is a wonder to see. Hope your shoulder gets better most quickly! Super duper job as usual. Awesome transformation! Patti
This video motivated me to get rid of two bin bags of clothes and shoes for the charity shop. Thanks!! Amazing job on the room, sorry you hurt yourself. x
I am sending my best wishes to this courageous person. I hope therapy progresses so that she can get rid of stuff and return to having a calm, peaceful, rejuvenating home. All hoarder homes look like they would make the owner feel overwhelmed every time they looked around, a stressful, depressing, painful way to live. It's wonderful she is brave enough to let you in her house and to make that great leap of faith to go into therapy. All the best to both of you!
I don’t have any official diagnosis yet I struggle with getting overwhelmed and use your techniques to help me stay clean. I have minor hoarding issues but keep after myself. I love clothes, books, candles, shoes, and yarn. I try to keep myself in check by limiting items to an area but I am constantly having to check myself. I use your tip to say I’m cleaning this 3x3 space. Love your cleaning tips. ❤
Also, when you said everyone deserves a clean toilet, I mean I don’t even know what to say about that other than- what a blessing you are for people. Also, be careful not to disintegrate the toilet by trying to spin kick the dirt off of it.
EMDR therapy and microdosing helped me identify my hoarding tendencies. I made a few mistakes driven by fear that I realized were the result of past traumas so I started therapy and on my own started to declutter. It was such an amazing feeling. I hope the best for this person. It is possible to get through it.
I just wanted to give a heads up about using brand new bedding without washing it first. When I was in high school we moved to a new house and I got new bedding that I loved. I wouldn't let my mom wash it before putting it on my bed. The next morning I went to school and my arms an legs broke out in a splotchy red rash. It didn't really itch or butn, but I was pretty splotchy. Came home and took a shower, and my mom washed the bedding, and I was good to go. Of course I don't know if everyone would have that reaction, but they use some serious chemical in fabrics and dyes.
I hope your shoulder has a speedy recovery. Heating pad and rest I hope? Good chiropractic videos on pinterest, and accupressure pins too. Gell well soon, will keep you in our prayers for speedy recovery. And wow, that bed is beautiful too!
Wow, you are awesome dude! I'm so sorry you injured your shoulder, I dislocated mine twice in two days, boy did it hurt. I had to learn to flip eggs in a frying pan because I was an assistant manager at a diner. God bless you.
I appreciate that you don’t mask the sounds of your video with music. I really like the natural sounds of you cleaning. I enjoy cleaning along while I watch/listen to you. I know most people prefer music but it overstimulates me and makes it difficult for me to think about the tasks I’m doing.
It's nice that she trusts you enough to even touch her hoard. Having a clean place to sleep will definitely help clear her mind. Poor sleep + no place to sleep = poor decision making skills.
I hope your shoulder feels better soon. You are so compassionate to people you work for. I always wonder in these houses where people sleep or how do they eat. Such a sad situation for everyone.
I make fleece yardstick dusters that slip over a yard stick and easily slip under a fridge to pull out dust and grime. Happy to send you a free one if you’d like it.
Wow! You do amazing things with just time, energy, a knack for organising, and a few cleaning supplies and tools!! You are a true blessing to those working through their issues!!! 👍💗💗💗
I had to restart this video after you said your "name" because i couldn't stop laughing. I also got really happy yesterday when my 15 yo son asked me why i did something a certain way and i said, "because that's how i roll Son"
Another great job. This is a massive undertaking, kudos for being willing to donate your time and money to help others. Hope your shoulder is on the mend. Maybe a day of just relaxing is in order. Take care of yourself.
This video hits really close to home. My wife hordes food and clothing. But it hasn't reached this level yet. I am the organized one in the relationship. I don't know what I would do if it reached this level. These conversations are very hard with her. She always gets really angry at me.
This hits close to home for me too, because I am the clothes hoarder. And my husband hoards books and games, so we're doomed 😂. But after we came close to evacuating for a wildfire last year, I feel differently about my stuff. Now I look at the extra stuff as fuel for a fire. So I'm getting rid of a lot of things, but it's very hard to get my husband to let go of anything. Good luck to you guys.☘️
thanks for your content. The humor makes me bust out laughing and eases the seriousness of the mental illness. You’ve also opened my eyes to my own hoarding tendencies, inherited from my parents, who are the world’s most organized hoarders - just adding buildings and shelves to accommodate the inability to throw/give anything away, ever. Bless you for your insight and beautiful heart, Johnny. 😂❤
As the child of a hoarder, I can’t attest to the endless struggle of dealing with a hoarder. I’d attempt to clean while my dad was home, but it was just a lot of yelling about not throwing anything out and not touching his “things”. It’s disheartening. Move hundreds of pounds of unused junk, scrub and clean and then have to put all the junk right back on top of it again. Each time, it would just become an argument (Nobody “needs” 47 empty margarine containers Dad, nobody). If I did manage to get rid of something, he’d replace it with 3 more if the same thing. Repeat this process for a decade or two, and yes, the children of hoarders give up trying to help them. I did just stop trying. For my own sanity’s sake, I had to.
That’s so sad. I wonder how you can get through that some things are truly just trash and has no use to anyone, like there must be a distinction even for hoarders that some things are trash?
@@nightsgrow6575 the first 20 empty magerine tubs aren't necessarily trash, it's the other 30. There are people who make such a distinction but most have aspirations to use things or others who can't fathom the parting with items so empty wrappers become an item in their mind.
My husband and I moved in together years ago. They had their house we had our we sold and bought a big Victorian house together. My husband and FIL had an engineering business together. It made sense at the time due to each being in the others house. Little did I know. We initially shared large kitchen, bathroom . Home office. Dining table was a large snooker table, which very quickly became filled with stuff. My MIL would put my clothes in the washing machine if basket was anywhere in her vicinity, meaning inside the house. She would put towels, jeans delicates in on same wash. Yes I sound picky. I managed to get my husband to get our own kitchen. The hoarding started. No cleaning. Then dementia. We’ve been together 24 years. MIL now has stair lift, multiple frames and continence issue that are showing around the house. FIL hoarding more. Neither clean their rooms. I clean surfaces in their kitchen and vac, mop when they’re out together. The further along the dementia develops the more FIL gathers ‘stuff’. Not sure how to proceed. I’ve just retired and hate spending time in the house. I know I’m lucky, I have a roof over my head, but very difficult having my grand babies over. Best wishes from Devon UK
@@danoyse8233 that sounds horrible, my grandfather wasn't diagnosed at the time but started buying stuff he couldn't find when his dementia started. It's going to be hard to Clean that up
I know you said most of the stuff on the floor was clean, but once I saw butts on the floor, it's no longer clean enough for me. I'm a heavy smoker and won't even allow butts in my yard. Grosses me out. I am sooo Thankful she is addressing it in therapy. I'm Thankful for the start you are giving her at something fresh. Makes it easier to breath in there. You do suffer for your profession. While I know it hurts like hell. It means everything to the person you are helping! Thank you!
So sorry you got injured on this one but even with that, you still finished strong, in my opinion, and how nice it must have been for the person who lives there to SEE her bed again!! Wow. Nicely done. Hope by now your shoulder injury is lots better!
Maybe the round house kicks are the source of your back pain. 😁🤸🏻♀️ Sorry you tore your shoulder, and bless you for continuing. I can so see how one could become a hoarder after a traumatic loss. I've been slightly addicted to your vids. Hopefully watching them w some ads can help with the tote costs. 😊 Have a great week.🍂
How do people with this illness feel about “trash” leaving their home? Is it hard for them? Always impressed with your work and that you found a place to put your camera!
Kudos to this family on starting therapy!! Ty again for you do, 2 steps in the right direction!! 🎉❤❤ Prayers that you heal up spon and take it easy next time woth all your massive strength!! 😅😅😅😊
I really like the tubs you buy/use. They appear super sturdy and instead of lid clipping in like they usually do at Bunnings here in Perth Australia it looks like they just sit n kinda push on top. The ones I get are just the typical clearish ones with clip down lid, some can crack easy tho. Can you pleas send 4 of those ones over, any colour is fine…I’m not fussy 🥰
My question is, how does a hoarder stop purchasing items so that the work you have done for them and the progress made is then disrupted by more items entering the house. If it is a yr or 2 before she can start letting go of things, that is a lot of time to add more items into the house.
Here's Jonny! Take care buddy! If the house has a crawl space or basement, the homeowner can get a carpenter or a specialist to come in to jack up the bad beam with a floor jack. Depending on how bad it is, the jack might do the job and stay in place. Otherwise, a new beam, of course, needs to be "sistered" or put next to the bad one. That's easier and cheaper than pulling the beam. I'm sketching it out so you can give her an idea. My Grandpa's house had a couple of bad floor joists, so Dad and his brother did this for him. Thankfully, Grandpa wasn't hoarding, just an old house!
I’m sorry you got injured, and hope you heal quickly! When we cleaned my aunt’s house, her bedroom looked very similar to this, and I didn’t understand where she was able to sleep?! It’s so sad to get to this point and be a prisoner in your own home!! Take care and feel better soon!!
When you said you,"cleaned the toilet because everyone deserves a clean toilet" that really hit me in the feels. You've taught me a great deal but that hit an area not often exposed. Hope your shoulder bounces back. Take care (whatever alias you choose) 😉
Hi Mr. Johnny 👋😊. I am so sorry you hurt your shoulder, i hope it get better soon ❤. You did tremendous job in the bedroom alone. You always surprise me with your skills cleaning and organizing. I really hope therapy helps the woman. Thank you, until next week 😊🌺.
*A tip for plastic storage totes* I try to make the things I buy remain useful for as long as possible (and I will often sell things on Facebook Marketplace or at yardsales when I no longer need them) so to keep my totes reusable and potentially sellable, I never use marker directly on them. I either print out labels and adhere them with clear packing tape (which also keeps the label nice) or I write the contents on a small sheet of paper and attach it with tape. That way they stay looking nice and can be used over and over even if the contents change
I'm glad 😊you will request help from two or more people to assist you with finishing this hoarder's home. Not only dealing with your painful physicality, Chuck, but the job requires more than one person to clean out this place. This is a hoarder's nightmare😱 you're dealing with by yourself. The number of clothes after clothes you've folded in the bedroom is unbelievable. Jesu.🤦♀ You're a trouper when gathering loads of trash all at once. But then again, that's who you are: helping those😇 in need of your servitude like this unfortunate woman. I hope🙏 for a speedy recovery from your shoulder injury Chuck, and PLEASE🥺 have your filthy son, Jason, help you complete this astronomical work promptly as soon as you get better.
I saw a RU-vid short where a woman was cleaning and she uses scrub daddy and they give her products because she does free cleanings. I’m not sure if she’s one of the cleaners that you were working with. But it seems to be Rubbermaid or Tupperware whoever makes those big bins might be able to help you out
