The statues are being abandoned by former worshippers. They either moved house or stopped worshipping them but cannot simply throw them away. So they invited them to a new site with respect. Usually left under a tree. Its some kind of a final ritual for replacement. Dont remove or touch them.

i think one possible reason the deity’s face was covered in red paper/cloth is because the deity haven’t 「开光」. this is to prevent wandering spirits from “entering” the statue. as it is said that the eyes of the deity statue are the “point of entry” for the deities to enter the statues. another possible reason is because the environment is not “clean and holy” for the deity to reside in. it’s out in the wild. so out of respect, the deity statue’s face is covered in red paper/cloth to prevent exposure to that kind of environment.

It's funny that I used to live in an Asian country that believes in many ghosts and spirits but I've never really had much, if any, nightmare there. Now I live in a 'Western' country but I've gotten sleep paralysis at least 3 times and several nightmares involving ghosts/scary beings. Maybe it comes with age. More stress as I get older.

Hi sushi, please read this. While there are multiple beliefs regarding the paranormal; ghosts, spirits, manifestations of deities, etc, one thing that all believers of the paranormal can agree on is that these things can sense fear. Often, these entities only disturb you or show themselves when they know you fear them significantly enough. Kudos to you and star for being so courageous and braving through such haunted areas for the fans, but I can safely say that since you and star don’t seem that scared, it is unlikely that you will come across any paranormal activity. That may not be your intention of course, and that’s cool. But if you do want to be able to document something paranormal, best bet is to bring someone who gets balls deep scared of such things

@@svukzjon not sure if it's the same, but with Chinese deities, statues don't just come with the deities already inhabiting the statue. It's just a barrier against entities from taking over the statue before inviting the actual one

I remember during the 1990s, I used to hike up the tar road next to Penang Botanic Gardens until the summit of Penang Hill every Saturday afternoon (2pm, not too hot but breezy cool - Thank God It's Saturday). After an invigorating cuppa of Kopi-O kow-kow, I continued my run + hike up the hill road which got more frequent bends. It was after this particular sharp bend & steep gradient that I was greeted by this one fern leaf every Saturday afternoon without fail! I held my hand near the fern leaf to test for any wind circulation. Front, back, left, right & no wind! But the leaf continued to wave enthusiastically. I didn't get goose bumps, nor I felt any fear. Well, may be this greeter was a forest nymph inviting friends at her 'Facebook' forest portal!!!

@knuttz86

The urban redevelopment happened in other parts of the island. The government resettled people in new housing board flats since kampongs were considered to be unsanitary and fire hazards.

@@knuttz86 Its so sad to see many of those kampongs were empited out completely without any considerations to retain one or two of them completely intact. I mean, those kampongs can be renovated completely to met the latest sanitary and fire safety standard while at the same time those kampongs also can be repurposed for tourism and strong historical evidences on how the life in the past looks like when Singapore still not a Singapore people known today.

I know for the Chinese deities or plaques, usually its because when Chinese people want to change for a new statue or plaque they just dump it at a random tree i.e. they're not worshipping the tree or enshrining the deity at the tree. Then given that a place is a known dumping spot, other people might also think its a good spot to dump their unwanted statues. As for why, sometimes its because superstition and they wanna change their luck or vibes or something. However, dumping the statue or plaque like this is not the proper way to do it (if you believe in it). For the Hindu iconography it is probably the same because India has a similar issue where people improperly dispose iconography under trees and random spot. Also the red flare in the sky was a reflection from flaring in Johor, oil plants might burn off excess.

@Min_injae

6:47 SUSHHIII LEMME TELL YOU THE REASON So first of all mostly of the statues there were of Hindu gods and godesses~ SOO THERE ARE 2 THINGS: FIRST is the superstition: -It is said that at night the sacred fig or peepal tree (the tree in the clip) attracts ghosts and spirits at night. The reason for this superstition ws that the tree releases a lot of carbon dioxide at night which was said to "attract spirits" (but tbh the elderly made that up to prevent the kids from going there but i also heard some stories of it) SECOND: That tree is known to be our spiritual tree (means we pray to that tree/ pay respect to it or build a temple underneath it) Thats why some people had put those statues there your wlcm :D

those idols you saw at 6:25 are hindu god idols, mainly I see idols of 'Lord Ganesha' and one of 'Sai Baba'. I don't think there's any particular reason for choosing that tree, since many random trees in India also have these idols and the bag of trash is to keep the place clean and throw away the reminants after doing our prayers. I don't think it's specifically anything bad, but maybe the one doing this has some other motives, idk Also at 14:40, those are the figures of 'Lord Krishna' in his child/baby form, perhaps just for worship purposes because they didn't find idols or sum

Placing deity statues under a tree is a very common and most respectful way of disposing the object. Depending on the faith, some temple especially for Taoist deities, temples can accept it and help the owner to “close eye” and burn (send off) the statue with a help of e medium. For Buddhist, Hindu deity statues, most temple do not accept them for disposal so leaving it under a tree at ulu place is pretty common. It is not placed there to worship the tree

I used to live at tanjong irau which is further inside when i was young before we all slowly have to move and live in hdb follow by kampong wak hassan after that. The only things seperate our village between each other was the bridge at kuala simpang which is near the kayak or canoeing place there and to go in our village sometimes we take pawancha like taxi or walk in those days..Now of course no more bridge lah and kuala simpang cannot access go further in as it was army training area. As far as i know, nobody even the old people who live there mention about ghost at kampong wak hassan. Its a cleaned place. My uncle and his family was one of the residents from kampong wak hassan. The real haunted place was at sungei simpang and jungle there, which seperate us between kampung wak hassan and tanjung irau. All kinds of ghost and mystery things happen there.. I remember when i was young when old peoples in the village gathering including my parents chilling talking among themselves those days, that some of them saw a man walking and wandering with no head at night, pontianak as usual, even there is a bhai roti used to sell evening but he change timing sell bread daytime as he share his experience meeting a lady who want to buy roti calling him from bushes near roadside but turns out she had no legs just floating. But overall now im not suprise lah if its true kampong wak hassan now become haunted and dirty because that place have turning into all kinds of believe. Its a favourite spot for people to dump things there, black magic stuff , deities, and i saw other practice also release body ashes to the sea.

As an Indian, what we do is, we “discard” god statues or pictures either by placing them under the trees or in the sea. Most prefer placing under the trees. We don’t worship the trees. I suggest not trying to piss off any spirits and if you want to protect yourself from negative energies I do suggest buying crystals or buying smudging sticks to cleanse your energy after every exploration video, evil spirits could possibly follow you or affect your life/your camera man negatively, do stay safe and great content.

Love your videos 🍣 ❤ p.s. the idols may also house inhuman entities like demons, some of which take residence after the original 'god' belonging in the idol leaves (e.g. due to the place where the idol is housed at not being holy anymore). Some shamans also use these idols as vessels to 'trap' evil entities, and these vessels being found in an ulu place makes the entities more dangerous, being isolated from humans and all, like sort of a prison.

The baby photo u saw is actually Indian deity called Murugan, I think these were actually used for thaipusam procession as Kavadi photos and discarded after use or maybe wear and tear.

9:43 basically those deities statues are abandoned probably after the owner passes away. And in chinese religion culture, when the owner of the statue passes, kin in the household will need to cover deities eyes with red cloth in due respect. The deity statue ended up in the wild may be also because the next of kin of the deceased is unable to take over. So they just left them in the wild (which they could have done better by sending the statues to temple and check out)

Hi sushi ...so about the deities under the tree, i am from Kolkata, India and here we worship deities every year and every year we put the statue of these deities under a bonsai tree ,, it's like a religious belief we don't discard it we just put these under a tree . I saw that the deities in the videos resembled those from my culture so ...i thought of commenting. Hope that helps😊

2:59, In Chinese we called it ‘黑金’ (Hokkien means Orh Kim). It's a block of charcoal that has been blessed and decorated to bring wealth and prosperity to devotee during the Lunar Seventh Month period. Usually worshippers will keep for a year until the next Seventh Month, and you're supposed to burn it together after the new one has been installed. If worshipper did not organize any Seven Month prayer due to certain circumstances, next best thing is to leave it under the tree. About 'choosing' a tree to place deity, there's no specific tree to choose, rather I would say it's just irresponsible action from one that doesn't want to pray deity anymore. One should actually seek temples' advise and bring your deity to them so they can send them back to heaven on your behalf when the temple is organizing big celebration. As usual, quality no click bait content!!

The second in which a man was sitting with a bag was sayi baba. Gamesh ji is considered as the god of wealth, nd sayi baba for peace.

Haha, yes. Many people go to the beach to buang barang. Gotta be careful in that part. Pontianak have been spotted. Also, that gate is also connected to the Green House of Hillview. Green House also has a murky history. Both Sembawang and Hillview properties apparently owned by Cycle and Carriage boss.

Sushi, some statues of deities have their faces covered because each time you move a statue of a deity from its original location (house or temple), you have to cover their eyes usually with red or pink paper. In this case, the owner of that deity statue probably either could not take care of it or decided to give up on the statue thus when they moved the statue from its original location, they had its eyes covered with paper. A wild guess for this it’s because you don’t want the deity or spirit residing in the statue to get annoyed for abandoning it and subsequently follow you / haunt you. The statue left there, it’s definitely not because the location is haunted or cursed😅

Ok soo first off loved your video, it was truly amazing and both of your courage damnn. I wanted to say a bit about the idols you saw. Many of the idos you saw were Hindu idos worshipped extensively in India and neighbouring regions. The idos Ganesha, I saw a Vishnu photo too (can try googling it once for clarification) they were kept under a Peepal tree (Sacred Fig in English) which is considered auspicious in Hindu culture. The tree is worshipped a lot in India during many festivals. It is sometimes coated with turmeric and red turmeric powder (used for making the distinctive Hindu mark on the forehead). And the last part were you saw a creepy face under a tree is actually the picture of lord Krishna (the photo was actually very eerie, even I would've lost it😅) Hope this helps!!! Love your content, keep up the good work both of youuu!!

It is a common practices to place the old deity statue in clean and dignified location, offering prayers and thanks for its service. It is a believe that exposing the face of a deity might invite undue attention or disturb the spiritual balance. Overall, it's a gesture of reverence and acknowledgment of the sacred and transcendent nature of the divine.

About the deity covered with pink paper and red string, from what I know is that when a house is vacated or burned, or the owner of the place wants it to be removed, a master/shifu will be called to ‘ask’ the deity to leave their place/spot where they was first ‘installed’. After some short rituals or prayer, the master/shifu will cover the deity’s face or the entire head with pink or red paper then remove it from its space. After that its either the master/shifu bring it back to their temple or do other rituals again at somewhere else like giving the deity new place. What I heard that if just discard like that or dump like brings misfortune or curse to whoever remove the paper next. 😅 hope this answer your question

Not sure why those were there but that's Murugan during that part near the 14 minute mark, he's the Hindu god of war. Strange place to be placed but from the way it was set maybe like a mini-shrine? What I found really interesting too is that there were a lot of statues of Ganesha. Both Murugan and Ganesha are brothers, but usually worshipped for different things. I too would be very curious as to why they were left there.
