This might be the dumbest political issue in America today. How is this even a problem? If someone who is not a legal tenant of the property enters without the homeowner’s permission, or if someone simply refuses to pay rent, then they should be kicked out. It’s literally that simple.

Because they are buying votes. There are still rich people that will vote Democrat, even if the squatters are an issue. The squatters will ALWAYS vote Democrat because it gives them a free home. The squatter sits on the county fire department board, of course he knows a few cops. Also the only way this law will change is if squatters started living in politicians houses. It’s out of sight out of mind to them. They aren’t dealing with the problem so why should they care, landlords are usually more wealthy conservative types where as squatters or people who rent are their voter base, so of course they will do everything to protect their voters.

There is a guy in Southern cali, i heard about who steals back homes from squaters and gives it back to the homeowners. He basically goes in when the squaters leave to go somewhere, "moves in," and says he lives there. Now, the actual squater is trespassing, and they're removed from the property. Idk if that'd work in Washington, but obviously, the "legal system" won't do anything but cost homeowners more money.

Exactly.. Anarchy is the way. They've brainwashed us into thinking anarchy means pure chaos and without rules, but it actually means without rulers... Essentially everyone is a king. I have a home in Federal Way, Wa with a squatter. We filed for eviction back in April 2024. We have a court date set for Jan 2025. The King County Superior Court backup and Northwest Justice Project is very much enabling squatters to live without paying for extremely unreasonable time. For me, a court date nearly a whole year away.

Funny how my step dad gets threatened by the state for having to many cars on his property and the state threatened a fine of 3500 a day and eventually kicking out my step dad on land he owns. But if you are a squatter you can live rent free without government messing with ya for two years. My step dad was given a month to fix everything.

In Spain there is a similar problem, some home owners hire a group called Desokupa, which basically means hiring a mob of squatters to move in with your current squatter and ultimately they get tired and leave.

I'm a landlord in MS and if I have a squatter the sheriffs department will remove them immediately. If I have a tenant who isn't paying rent and I have served an eviction notice they will also be removed within 30 days by the sheriffs department. Mississippi doesn't play when it comes to these situations. I'm glad Tyler is exposing how some of these city and state officials handle this kind of nonsense. It seems like the asian guy was allowed to live there, paid rent for 3 months, couldn't pay on time 4th month, and then paid rent through the goverment or taxpayer money or something after 3 months and the landlord is making it into a big deal. Can someone explain what the problem is? The landlord and the guy agreed he and his family could live there, and he has been paying his rent. I don't understand what the problem is They keep saying he's squatting and they stood outside with signs calling him a lawbreaker, and walking onto his drive recording him, at 2:06 he was called a serial squatter and he said they 'may start resorting to vigilante justice', 2:51 the guy said the asian dude and his family had protests outside the house for nearly 2 months. It seems like they're trying to get the asian guy living there and his family (so children as well) homeless for paying his rent late one time

Such a beautiful region. There are a lot of thunderstorms in the pacific northwest, so people usually sleep pecefully through the night, even with unexpected noises, such as loud pops when the trees break from lightning strikes. People can't even hear it! Can you imagine sleeping so peacefully? From what I understand, they also have some great farmland in that region. I've always wanted to visit a real-life pig farm, especially on a stormy night. What a magical experience that must be. Such a beautiful region!

In this case, he's not deemed a squatter, he has legally rented the house, and has a dispute on the rent. Why it takes so long to go through the judicial process to get closure on a time sensitive dispute (time sensitive because it's costing the owner a lot of money), is the part that I don't understand.

Happened to a friend I know in Oregon. Lived with his girlfriend she refused to leave, he didn’t get mad he just told her you are free to stay as long as you like. Phoned the utility company and had the water power and gas shut off. Didn’t take long for her to leave.

@@Kenziebaby16 not necessarily; records would show that the house is owned by the person who shut it off, and if they (the squatter) wanted the lights and water back on, they would have to have some kind of proof that they have a lease, or ownership of the property. one does not just go to the power company and say hey, i live here, i need the power on, here's the cash. they need proof that they live there, and just having old mail isnt gonna cut it for the big companies. edit: or at least thats how it is for the companies i get my utilites through.

#1 all homless know to live in packs, there will always be more than 1. #2 if you are going to throw hands make sure they aren't recording because they will try to get as much out of it as possible and they have nothing else to do with their lives than make you misserable. #3 I do not recomend if you are going to throw hands I do not recommend making sure that there is only one side of the story to tell. #4 the people who say they will throw hands online, will not normally commit in real life, so I suggest hitting the gym or the range.

I'm going to take up for the cops here. The big burly bald dude had a lease. The issue of it being legal or not was being settled in court. That automatically gives him the right to occupy and have any intruders trespassed by the cops. The cops can't just determine on their own who belongs and who doesn't without opening themselves up to a lawsuit. The root of the problem is the laws, which are nutty in Seattle/King Co. This is the kind of stuff that has caused so many cops to leave the SPD and why they can't hire anyone worth a sh*t.

I'm familiar with Andrea Suarez (the lady in the video from IHeartSeattle). She actually saved two different men I know that were homeless and in active addiction in Seattle. One was squatting, the other was living in a tent on the streets. Both men chose to come and enter a clean and sober program here in Portland that helps you get on your feet, have a safe private space, attend classes to help re-program you so that you can re-engage with society, and to find employment. After 4 years, both men are successful and thriving. The one that was squatting is now a case manager at the program in Portland. He helped initiate the IHeartPortland initiative. And he goes boots to the ground on his weekends off to get people off the streets in Portland. The other gentleman that was in a tent has been gainfully employeed at the same job for almost 4 years now. It’s interesting how Tyler and his friend didn’t want to assume the 2nd guy (Steve) was guilty despite there being such clear evidence he is at fault and scamming these people. That’s because he’s a con-man and a narcissist. Every person even admitted they liked him a lot “a man of the community” “a firefighter” “we trusted him” “he showed up in a helicopter flashing money he clearly seemed to have”. This likability of him is why it’s so hard to take theee guys down, the public loves him because he’s a narcissist and a con man, 1 million followers is a huge deal. How do you take down a criminal that is so well-loved and to a judge/jury could be seen favorably even tho he’s clearly wrong.

This happens because we don't have law enforcement that will enforce the law. We have a weak District Attorney's office that slaps people on the wrist and gives them an ankle monitoring bracelet. We have juveniles who have killed people at point blank range. Dow Constantine wants to close up all of the juvenile facilities that are in crisis right now. They're stuffed to the gills. He wants to give them an ankle monitoring bracelet and send them home. Back with the same derelict parents who allow this behavior to begin in the first place. It's utter lawlessness that's going on on all of the West Coast and finally people have had enough. I'm hoping and praying that for once. People will vote accordingly! But that doesn't seem to happen here in Seattle. They just love to put the same people back in office who do absolutely nothing. Cause more chaos and collect a huge salary, I might add.

Well that's what my friend did and moved her friends into where the squatters were and made it impossible for them and that's the only reason the squatters left. They just made a lease and put dates on it back 7 months. The courts up there are not going to help because they are making money and so are the lawyers so fight fire with fire. It's cheaper to hire someone to stay there on top of the squatters and party and make it impossible for them to live there. They have to always be there so the others don't have a chance to lock them out.
