Bro, the biggest problem is that this producers are not ready for the Nigerian market. They keep producing luxurious cars, targeting the elite who wouldn't patronize them instead of building low-cost economic cars that public school teachers and civil servants can afford. I can't use my 50 million to buy a locally-made car that is not trusted but I can spare 5 million for a locally-made car. they should focus on economic cars. the economic class is large.
Your points are well made, in fact I was going to make a similar point. For one thing, these Nigerian manufacturers are making vehicles similar to what are made outside and notably outside Nigeria in DEVELOPED COUNTRIES and brands, when they simply need to look at the emerging economies and their car manufacturers to learn what they did to get big and penetrate their markets And yes, it comes down to price$ I have told my Nigerian friends years ago to take a feather from the hat of Tata Motors (India), their approach is the best solution, they focused on making affordable cars that are adequate and within reach to their own market and it was a great success, they have grown and gone on to make many other vehicles in every range of luxury, with their large dominance in India they went on to buy some of the best luxury car brands in the world ( notably Jaguar & Land Rover, still made in the UK, but owned by the Indian multinational Tata (Motors) Group). This is what Nigerian automakers need to learn, the largest companies, brands and all businesses make their money focusing on key their target markets, not reaching for the stars Be Practical, learn from the similar markets and stop comparing yourself to developed countries/brands/markets You aren’t in that paradigm and won’t get their until you identify your key target market
I am a South Africa, here in South Africa, 90 % + car are produced here, importing a car is from abroad is exemely expensive , government make sure that you pay higher tax to discourage importing car
I'm a huge fan of Steven's content and love watching his videos! It's great to see Nigeria represented by such a talented creator who consistently produces high-quality, engaging content. Keep up the fantastic work, Steven - I'm a big appreciator of your efforts.
Thank you for the content!. It's preferable to invest rather than rely on the government. My wife and I started with just $4000. Because I was skeptical about investment but fortunately now I regret not starting bigger.
Among many coaches, Amiya Janson stands out as a popular choice. Her recognition is growing daily, and her strategies have proven highly effective. With years of experience in the financial market.
Here in Brazil we also have cars manufactured specifically for our market and I can tell you, these cars are only made for the 3rd world countries. They are built using way cheaper resources and materials to cut costs and gain more profit resulting in a bad product when compared with cars imported from developed countries. With that knowledge, people will always prefer a used good quality car than a brand new one made with cheap materials for, most of the times, the same price📈
This is very impressive! Thank you for highlighting the vehicles being made in Nigeria. It's sad though that government officials don't purchase local to support the Nigerian economy. Nawaooo. Sending love from a Black American brother in the US!
@@Nurse_villaNigerian cars are more expensive than imported used cars. And their prices are way beyond what an average Nigerian can afford. If Nigerian people can afford the cars, a lot of people would be purchasing them. The made in Nigerian cars are made only for the rich....
Really interesting piece. Out of all the cars I have only heard innoson, Nord and Benni are new to me. So happy to see Jeffery Benson. Nice, thumbs up to Firepips
The reason why Nigeria is poor is because we import everything. For example, if Nigeria manufactured airplanes in Nigeria, plane tickets would be cheaper. We need to industrialize Nigeria, we cannot import used cars that have been used abroad.
@@m99226 How can you compare Nigeria with Mauritius. Mauritius is an island with few inhabitants and attracts a lot of tourism. And regarding investments, you have to filter, an investment to build a beer factory is not the same as an investment to build an airplane factory.
Nigeira does not import everything, we just import much more than we produce, get your facts right. We also produce certain things. Make una dey calm down😅 An example is vehicles, and you saw in this video that we produce them, not so? But is it being patronize enough?
@@mrnaija101 What I was referring to is that our industrial capacity is poor, for example, so far there is no Nigerian company that produces airplanes or helicopters. There is also no company that produces heavy vehicles, which makes housing prices more expensive since real estate companies have to buy imported heavy vehicles.
If we can go to their schools, compete & come out the best graduating student's, etc. Why then do we need their help to run & manage our own affairs/business? We would collaborate if it makes $en$e, no doubt. But we Nigerians would rather own our sh#t, outright. The trickery of the west is beyond what the ordinary eyes can see. We Africans must learn.
@Tefera-hf8fw Even the Chinese would deny that lie. We have always owned our shit, home & abroad. That's something we don't see in other African countries.
Nice job Steven. I like the fact one of the cars is named “Ikenga”. We need to value our local products. We need to value our own people and our identity. You are doing a great job,Steve.
The problem is this company's don't produce vehicle's they just assemble them and if you have a problem with the vehicle then they will just say it is the foreign supplier problem. There is no test track or designer rooms or even proper paint room.
I really dont like seeing dust piling up on top of brand new cars (Innoson?) like that. Not appealing at all! He should cover the car with something...
One question you didn't ask is what's the warranty of the cars. Well known brands offer warranty and customer service for their cars. What does Innoson and Nord offer?
The reason why these cars are still expensive is because the essential part which is the engine is still imported with high custom duties but old and used foreign cars are still affordable
I love Mr Francis straight truth and never beating around the bush or trying to defend what can't be defended. No manufacturer in this world produces it's parts and components entirely, and again very few manufacturer's really own their own Engines too, it's always sourced from specialized builders. Nigerians have odd expectations of INNOSON and many are really ignorant of what automobile manufacturing and build really entails. We're just a slave to the advanced and established world never wanting to learn or give a chance to our baby steps and ways. My heart bleeds when I see this kind of denial and lack of support to a true course that could take the country or it's people to prosperity.
Something is fishy with these manufacturing plants. Innoson seems okay, but the NORD factory doesn't look like anything is being assembled there. It's fake.
Well, in as much that's a sad part of his interview, I like that he gave a valid reason why he drives that. He said he has had the Avalon long before he started working at IVM. We don't know how long that is but I believe he'll ditch that for an IVM eventually.
He said he had it before he started working for IVM. It's only IVM caris that has the physical roggedity to beat Avalon, and to buy the caris you need 19.8m for the manual and 21.1m for the automatic. I know this because I went to Nnewi to buy a car too, but the prices were way beyond my budget which is still feel bad about till today. I eneded up buying camry XLE 2014 model, V6, push start and full option for 9.5m. If I had that 21.1m I would have been a proud caris owner today.
Innoson should provide him with a company car for free or at a discounted price or on a payment plan, he's a representative of their brand. That's the problem with some Of our people, our greed don't allow us to see the bigger picture.
From around 14:52, it's obvious that the Nigerian brands need to work more on making their company viable by showing that their brands can be trusted. If they can do that, they would succeed.
The worst part is economic output within the country continues to drop. Innosson looks like they are operating at 40% capacity. And why should they. Nigerians aren't buying the vehicle. This regime isn't creating incentives either. I don tire abeg
If you didn’t know then now you know that the previous administration was practically subsidising Innoson as said by the owner of Innoson himself it’s the government it primarily relies on for patronage
The Nigerian government should actively support the domestic car industry by mandating that all federal government vehicles be locally manufactured with specifications comparable to those of other major brands. Considering the 4x4 priced at 37,000 pounds, which would be equivalent to a £60,000 car in the UK, initiatives like NORD CARS would make me proud to drive one here in UK. 🚗🇳🇬
I think Steven did not ask the important questions; Where and how do they tests these vehicles… safety, brake, visibility etc. Do they meet international standards? Do they have a design team? What’s the inspiration for each car model design? There are a-lot of question. I admire what they are doing as it’s difficult to start something as big as a car company. The Nord guys basically have a little parking area they claim to be an assembly plant? It’s not difficult to proof us wrong, show the development process from design to production ready vehicles.
Ya but it's more then just the cost, Chinese car do not pass American safety standards, the same with the Nigerian, most countries have Vehicles. Crash tests ,emissions standards, ect. They may say their cars are world class quality, but most are not. A independent car quality tester would point out the truth. But you have to start from somewhere and wishing the best of luck to Nigeria.
Road is bad yet they dont have the sense of fixing the road but rather import expensive cars to drive on a bad road. This guys dont think about us but rather their interest. Same situations we facing in Ghana.
Bring those cars to South Africa 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾that's where your market is as long as is affordable we will buy it China is taking over South Africa they are dumping their cars here NORD will do good in oir country I'm impressed with the level of quality and luxury of NORD cars 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Truely bigger brands don't manufacture their engines, but I'm still not convinced they produce the whole car apart from engine, they should show you where they melt irons to form chassis and other parts
This is not unique. America did the same thing.... how many cars are built in America that are actually American? I wouldn't knock these guys too much. I see a country that desperately wants to stay current. Quality in manufacturing worldwide is a crapshoot at best! Consumers also don't give Engineers the credit they deserve when constantly designing shit that doesn't last!! Personally I applaud their effort👍
The problem with Africa to me is foolishness of the hightst level. Imagine the excuse of a senator, that roads are bad. Who's job is it to fix the road? Busy growing others' economy while yours is dying. Out here, I drive a Sadan, and it takes me anywhere on- road I want to go to because the roads are good. Nigeria government will spend billions to buy TATA truck from India instead of Nigeria made, and some fools will say is Assembly not manufacturing, I worked in an auto industry and can tell you that every auto maker only design or buy a design patent and then order components from parts manufacturer and assemble their vehicles to specification, everyone does that Toyota and etc, aside from Tesla who manufacturers 90% of it parts in house no other company does, so that issue of manufacturing or assemble is invalid. Meanwhile, on the side of the manufacturer in Nigeria, Innoson needs to work on his media exposure and employees, notice how the NORD guy speaks even though his operation is way smaller than Innoson but he sounds more professional and that's very important, and then when you work in an auto company, once hired, part of the contract is usually you switch your car to the brand, some company will give it at extremely discounted price or free as an official vehicles and you're mandated to drive it as much as possible and if you becomes an executive is mandated that you drive your companies vehicles only, that guy could be fired in most company for saying he drives Toyota while he's obviously one of the managers at Innoson Auto, see how NORD guy answered that same question. The Innoson guy also doesn't know the specification of the cars, he said V4 engine when the car Engine is obviously straight 4. Innoson needs to hire professionals. E get Y
Valid points. How dare you say you drive a Toyota while working for Innoson. Are our people this daft or just st..id. The guy was even struggling to express himself and that's very bad PR for the company. I am really lost as to why these companies can't reach out to banks and other private companies for partnership to put their brands out there, and with time flood the market. There is something we are missing.
@sonofwealth625 Innoson has the money and popularity than NORD and has greater opportunities to shake the auto industry in Africa not just Nigeria, but I feel like he doesn't know how big of a thing he's onto, he seem to have poor division of labour, and so far zero professional PR and marketing management, I saw him one time on Arise TV intvew, no offence but he performed poorly kept going of topic, had it been he employed service of a pro auto PR officer that interview will become an indirect product advertisement which will bring more interesting attention to the brand. Meanwhile you don't just bring journalists unplanned to backend of factory, some company doesn't even allow employees to walk into production with phones, that car storage covered in dust, was a brand red flag, you don't just show that, even though is the very same way every car makers stock parking looks except for Nigeria because of environment is a bit more dusty, but most company won't show you that, except on special invitation. Innoson has lot of work to do really
@@binobrownthomas2010 I actually think they are aware of his coming if not, they wouldn't give any form audience. We don't value our own that much bc I remember the CEO himself gave Wode Maya unrestricted access to visit him and interview him one on one, twice. But he wouldn't do same for a fellow Nigerian. Steven wouldn't go there without any form of approval. They need to step up their game except they are just okay with the level of mediocrity in PR.
Study the 2000s suzuki jimmy guys, your roads need a small off roader that is simple as a wood stick and can be abused and still keep going strong for long ;) A small petrol/diesel with the mimimal complexitiy ( no turbo, no fancy engine control solutions like VVT etc etc simple 5 gang manual transmission etc etC ) make a car that cost 5000$ and you will start building up market share and mindshare !
Great video and very informative and interesting. As a Black American, I can see great potential in the automotive market of Nigeria. There is tons and tons of money to be made.
no one talking about the shere amount of certifications and crashtest a german manufactured car is going through. Trust is not bought, trust is gained over years...
2:36 that car weighs 16'000 pounds and only has 4 wheels... a pot hole would put the whole weight of the average car on one tire, thus making the pothole bigger as if 8 cars drove over it.
Im not Nigerian but I'm proud and respectful for the efforts they give to depend on themselves, one must start from a certain place. If these cars have spare parts, do not break down quickly, and are durable, they will succeed. However, with proper advertising, marketing, and promotion, and making people who represent the state use them, the use of these cars by state representatives gives people more motivation and confidence to use them. They are really beautiful cars. I hope for them and for the Nigerian people to succeed and excel
When Hyundai started in America, they provided warranties hundred thousand miles or maybe three years warranty. What warranties do this manufacturer provide for Nigerians? Thank you!
The fact is that these manufacturers are not bringing these cars to our notice in public, by doing advert for their cars produced in Nigeria, and partnerships with companies. we all can see the way OLA Of Lagos do adverts on some luxury foreign vehicles. Am even surprised that their is another car manufacturers called “NORD” and “BENIN” all I have been hearing about is only “INNOSON”. Hopefully by God Grace my next car will be this White NORD A5Pro it’s really lovely 🥰. Thanks for this awareness
Most manufacturers label Made in (Country) using Global Parts. Very common in almost every automaker. The pieces are outsourced from several countries, brought over to be fully assembled.
I believe they still have to do something about the prices. It's relatively high for an average Nigerian. Which is the main reason Nigerians would prefer second hand foreign brand over the Nigerian brand new.
Price point, unknown/poor second-hand value, no record of safety rating.... and more. I am not about to put my family in a car with no known safety rating or crash test rating.
The problem here is simple. Do the right advert and keep the product visible always then the government has a deep role to play. Keep making moves to get into the government. When public sectors get involved and policies that allows for you to prefer buying locally made then it flies...
The worst part it that people are buying old cars for which parts are not available and even worse for European cars, they fall in pieces if not kept perfectly. Big applause to these guys who are risking a lot and should be recognized recognized.
One other aspect these producers should look into is an efficient country-wide maintenance system for their cars. There are not many Nigerian car specialists.
Great Doku. I´d buy one of these rather than a chinese car. I am from Austria. We are manufacturing the motors for brands like Merc., BMW a.s.o. here. Hope to see more of NORD or the other Nigerian brands. :-) Walter
I can respect Nord's mission statement, the man interviewed said it's vehicles are durable, reliable, and available at an affordable price. I'd buy a car from there myself. I respect handmade cars a lot
In my country (Canada), we are surprised that Nigeria has an indigenous auto industry. We thought that all of your cars are stolen from us and shipped there.
Car dealer in Lagos is where I would go, no BS, straight to the point - either buy MB or Toyota, check it out in any service and drive away! Rest of them presented Nigerian assembled Chinese cars...
Bravo i'm impressed for these local car industry, your governement has à rôle to do by encouraging national industry by rising taxes on New or used imported cars or other measurs as we do in Algeria we've limited thé number of imported cars for 5 years and pushed the car manufacturers to invest in local industry and we ha've already 4 manufacturer Who began to manufacture in our country
According to what i see, that's assembling. The host just mentioned that the items come in bits and they join them.i would csll them ckds(complete knock down units which are then joined with measurements from where they're outsourced
Listen. I was born in Liberia and raised in the states. I drive a 2019 Toyota Corolla. Purchased in 2019. Toyota vehicles are really reliable! I get if you wanna drive more luxurious looking vehicles, but for longevity AND if you’re not balling like that, get a vehicle that is reliable and fit for the roads you drive on!
why cant dey produce low budget cars , to encourage low income buyers. mr Steve am Agegebread o independence radio Abuja and i most say that you are doing a great job sir. JUST WATCH YOUR CONTENT ON why eko atlantic is still empty....keepit up bro
The Bennie brand is hilarious? Nigerian-made super cars? Now? Really? The market simply isn’t there yet. They should focus on building the brand from the grassroots. A good place to start is having more affordable day to day vehicles, which some people could afford. Starting from brand new luxury for an unknown brand isn’t exactly smart, because luxury vehicles cost top dollars. If I were looking to buy a luxury vehicle, I wouldn’t trust a brand I don’t know, considering it’s a status signal.
I don't care the car I drive. My major concern is availability of parts. If IVM or NORD is affordable, fuel economy and the parts are available where I reside, I will definitely buy their cars. I am not brand conscious.
Our local manufacturers should target and produce for the middle class income earners like the civil servants and middle class business people. They should go into partnerships with government agencies and bank and discuss how they can supply to the government workers with banks as the middle man financier.
What they need to do is to manufactured low cost cars together with the luxury car, and needs massive Media advertisement and partnership with government, celebrities and marketers.
Even though im English im 100 percent behind nigeria doing what ever the can and should to build quality things cars or anything its a breath of fresh air especially when our minds are brainwashed into buying bmw Mercedes etc so good on them 👍
Immoson need to clean up. The walls look dirty and the place doesn't look presentable and doesn't match the products they produce. They should also ensure that their employees drive the cars they make as a deliberate policy. Why should their employee drive a Toyota Avalon? What does that say about the quality and price of the cars they produce?
It makes sense people would get lexus or merc its mainly due to reliability and im sure those new nigerian cars are insanely expensive especially for people that only make a few measly dollars a year
This is much better than Apple 🍎 whose entire production is outsourced mostly from Asia, but people buy IPhone without interrogation thinking it's made in America
