In this episode, I am visiting some members of the Naso tribe in Panama. Orlando is showing me around the area that they live, and the importance of the river Teribe, for the existence of their people. It was a visit that left the biggest impression on me during my entire stay in Panama.

Did I hear someone say Itchy Boots University? This series is more educational than many hours of formal geography classes. The educative quality of Noraly’s work cannot be understated. She’s filling in gaps of my education where indigenous communities and life off the grid is concerned. A corporate production or documentary does not have the same effect of getting up close and personal with the subjects as they accept her and are at ease to show their way of life. Absolute master class.

Noraly, without taking away from what you are presenting us on every episode, but I have to say I was blown away by Orlando's wisdom. You hit the jackpot with your guide. Not only is he so well spoken in the Naso language but his Spanish vocab and dominance is probably better than mine! Not only is Orlando able to communicate but to express the struggle of his people in very simple and coherent terms. No drama, just straight to the point. When you get to Honduras, please do visit "Triunfo the de la cruz" and "La Esperanza" , two areas where female indigenous activists where murdered to stifle them from speaking out against atrocities to the indigenous population. Their names were Berta Caceres and Jeannette Kawas. You are doing an amazing job for us bikers, but culturally you are exceeding my expectations.

I hope the government listens to them so that their unique way of life can be nurtured and preserved. You're doing great work here Noraly. While the West is bridging the end of colonialism with the start of the Metaverse, world cultures have never been more in danger of disappearing. "Yampi roots are a staple food source for many indigenous peoples in the Caribbean and Central America. In Panama, Yampi root grows only sporadically in the wild. There, indigenous populations believe that the plant was sent from heaven in response to the prayers of the people. In the Caribbean, Yampi root is also used as an accompaniment to Christmas ham, which is glazed with pineapple juice, ginger, orange marmalade, and honey, and served with pineapple rings during the holiday season."

What I appreciate is that you (as a polyglot) understand that different languages are not different ways of saying the same thing, but often express different world views and different ways of experiencing the world, family and more. They are teaching Naso to the children. This is a very serious and difficult undertaking, but immensely important. The video's of you riding are great, but these video's when you stop and smell the roses, are even better.. I rode my 1985 v65 magna thru 12 states, and the first state I went thru I only stopped for gas, food and sleep.. Cruised right thru, like I was in a big hurry to get nowhere fast.. I stopped to take a leak, and found the most beautiful little river valley, where I decided to camp for the night. Had I not stopped, I would have never saw the river, or the valley for its beauty.. Stayed there for two days, met some wonderful locals, who showed me where a natural hot springs was, and we had a nice little soak.. For the rest of the trip, and now any trip I take, I dont get in a hurry.. If you hurry, you will miss so many beautiful sights, and could miss out on a new friend, or an adventure to talk about as we get older.. Thank you for reading this..✌♥️🇺🇸

It is happening unfortunately for the Panamanians and native Panamanian tribes. They are out of water and 50 dams in Chiriqui province next to Bocas is a sad reality. The NASO and the guaimies people were allies when Columbus arrived in Badtimesyos island a few steps from Colon island where She was staying. It is pretty unique how Orlando referred to the Spaniards. They moved towards the Caribbean and years later in Portobello in Colon the Spaniards had the port to transport the gold from South American. We study history in Panama since elementary school. Hi!! Blijf veilig wees voorzichtig!! Groetjes, Anjali

Goodness, that was so brilliant. Like travelling back in time but from a modern day perspective. I was very taken by the description of how the Naso have been persecuted and pushed back by outsiders encroaching on their land and now the threat from hydro-electric energy production drying-up their lifeline further still. Your travelogue helps to illustrait just how complex human interactions and society are the world over. Peoples natural inclination is to live in peace and harmony. The reality is so often conflict and further marginalisation. Viva Honda!

How awesome to meet and visit with the indigenous people and to hear of their struggle to protect their way of life and keep their traditions and culture from totally disappearing. Amazing to see the ancient weapons and sad to hear of the 4 against 1 massacre of the tribe with the Spanish having guns. Very interesting to see the silent poison arrow 'gun'. They certainly learned from their enemies. A fascinating episode showing the simple yet effective way of life with homemade stairs and canoes!

A lot of Europeans go to Boca Del Toro. I'm also in Panama in La Chorrera, just around a 30-45 minute ride from the main city. Don't touch the cute little frogs!
