Think of how much history that bali has seen. One hundred years. Telephones were barely a thing. The television hadn't even been thought off. It's crazy.

I actually get pretty excited when I have to spend hours tracking down information on something. For the most part I grew up in a time where you could just google everything and have the answer in seconds. So when I google something and *don't* find the answer anywhere, and I have to dig, I feel like I've found something special. Something that hasn't been touched by the modern world.
@sonnygunz9207
@sonnygunz9207 6 лет назад
Nick Ross I grew up before google. Back when you had to learn from books and other people. It was a simpler time... lmao!!! I wonder about younger people today. Basically they never have to ask anyone a single question. They can just “google it”. Don’t get me wrong, that’s extremely handy but at the same time you lose human interaction. You lose those learning experiences and knowledge from your mom, dad, G-mom, G-dad & so-on. Ask “people” questions.
@fordperformance8900
@fordperformance8900 6 лет назад
Sonny Gunz man I agree and disagree bc I’m from 2004 and I don’t really google things. I like learning from people and doing it hands on
@sonnygunz9207

Ford Performance That’s a good thing and nice to hear. Your life will be more enriched. Knowledge needs to passed on person to person. Search engines have their place, we just have to make sure that place isn’t to big.
@sonnygunz9207
@sonnygunz9207 6 лет назад
SfL I definitely get what you’re saying. Your English is excellent. I’m talking about knowledge being passed human to human. It’s important to have an actual person pass knowledge on. Sure you can read it on a screen but I think you lose something.

Balisongs are probably my favorite design of knives. When I see a cutlerylover video with balisong in the title it’s gonna be cool, because I know you like them as much as I do. Bali’s are still taboo topic even among knife guys. Also most have never held a quality Bali or took the time to learn tricks.

Not surprising to see the two handle design around for a long time, but I'd be interested in seeing when/where the idea of making it free-flowing (and consequently latches and kickers) started vs this type of friction folder that just happens to cover both sides of the blade Would also be interested in when the idea of pinching the blade with somthing like a tang ping or zen pin came around.

Cheap ? I see a knife that's slim, nice and lightweight, and when sharp would slice like a dream. That's what I love about old imperial shell construction slipjoints. For most people myself included a folding knife doesn't need to be heavy duty and impractical, it just needs to effortlessly cut through things.

I don't understand tang pins on the newer knives. I'm filipino, these knives originated from my country and our knives never had tang pins. Those latches are designed to keep the knife straight when opened and closed. The handles are always flushed tight without any gaps in between them.

Bonza - Werk I don't know if you tried to say "Werk" or you had "Work" as a translation... If it was supposed to be a translation it would be translated with "Factory". But the problem here is that "Werk" could be just a name. Second problem is that "Werk" could also mean something like a work piece and not factory and that way it would be translated with "work" but this is more unlikely. I can tell you that because I'm a German. Greetings from Germany!
@cutlerylover
@cutlerylover 6 лет назад
ist suppose to be Werk, if I had to guess its a last name, same as Bonza...But just a guess...I imagine it was 2 dudes that shared the company...
@herrkeks8509
@herrkeks8509 6 лет назад
cutlerylover I think so too... Werk is not a usual word in the German language. If it's used it's in the most of the time used within another word. Like Uhrwerk (Clockwork). At least everyone knows a bit more German :D ... for the next 20 seconds. Please stay the person you are :D Don't change yourself for any person. I really like your videos, but I like you even more as a person. Greetings from Germany! Herr Keks ~ Mr. Cookie 🍪

Where are good places to find old knives or knives for restoring online? Of course I’m sure eBay and stuff. My town doesn’t have a lot on Craigslist and can’t go to flea markets cause of family. But I’d like to grab some more. Any type of knives worthy of restoring. Any recommendations, tips or suggestions anyone? I’d like to practice and do more. I spent 25 years in martial arts training with all forms of weaponry and I was a chef so I’ve been around blades my entire life and only recently got into collecting again and restoring. I also just want practice on restoring and sharpening. Cheap or decent it doesn’t matter as long as it’s an ok value ya know? (Have stones and ken onion work sharp, along with some other stuff)

I was noticing that. I think that that is because it is easier to open with one hand. By holding the safe handle and using your pinky finger to push the latch down, that way you can do a double rollout or speed opening on the the safe handle. On the other hand(le), with a Batangas style bali you would have to turn it around once you unlatch it. So it wouldn't make any sense to have the latch on the bite handle

J. S. When I visited Bavaria a few years ago, I saw tiny balisongs sold in gift shops. I got one, and it's pretty fun to flip, as well as a nice utility tool for various tasks. Are this illegal now as well? I was told that the smaller ones were fine cause they don't exceed a certain length.
@j.s.3753
@j.s.3753 6 лет назад
Yason You I think it's ok as long as the blade's length doesn't exceed 30mm but those are smaller than my thumb and I'm not even sure if they are fine to carry or just to possess. I do have a balisong trainer since they are very much legal and fun to play with after all.
