Sorry for you're day. I on the other hand had a good day yesterday, had the ok to start small yard work, met the new neighbor, another neighbor brought me some yellow tomatoes, made a tomato sandwich for lunch yum they were so fresh and tender. Today off to return to my card ladies I haven't seen in a month, we're all old and having med problems for awhile. But on the mend now. Good luck with computer. I found my keys once in the freezer where I must have put they when I put away my frozen foods after a trip to the grocery store. I am glad that found what you needed to get things back today. Hopefully you will not lose anything. Be safe and happy…life is not always easy, back 50 plus years ago we had a saving, sometimes you get the elevator and sometimes you get the shaft. Wow! I'm so sorry. I feel your pain. Last year the power died in my external hard drive and I realized how important that was. I save EVERYTHING to it... my whole life. Make sure to get a second external hard drive and back up to it occasionally.
You can remove the hard drive from the laptop and get the stuff stored on it .. I break my computers all the time and they can come out and can be used as an external hard drive with an adapter
I know this won't make it better, but you're at home, not on the road. So, if dad's vehicle had not broken down and you had not brought him home, you would have been on the road. Not that ANY of these things are good, but it all worked out for you to be in a place that enables you to be in a place you could replace what you need. Hoping your days get better!!

I live in constant fear of one of those devices we depend on so much for business (computer or cell phone) will poop out at, not only, the worst possible moment, but with all those bajillions of details and apps stored on them!
It definitely happens and I’m very fortunate that because I use Apple across-the-board that I can re-download all of the apps and most of them do save most of the information. However, in this particular case I was able to re-download the apps however it did not store all of my presets, which is how I do some of my things on my channel when it comes to correcting the color from each of my cameras and also my titles and things like that so I had to rebuild those from scratch, but fortunately, it’s not so difficult that I struggle too too much.

Wow I truly feel you. Right before Covid hit I had to replace my circuit panel to my house. That was not fun at all. Thankfully we have a backup generator. Hang in there and know your not alone.
Ugh. It’s the worst feeling when your computer dies. My school computer died a few months ago and my district wasn’t able to get me a computer right away. Everything that I do with teaching is on computer now. I ended up using my personal computer for about a month and a half - which I didn’t like doing but had no other choice. Good luck with getting all your old stuff back. 💪🏼
Same here! Last school year, I had a helpful student knock over my drink, which was next to my school MacBook Pro, and it died... I didn't realize how dependent I was on that thing...until I had to teach "old school" 😂 I know that feeling well!

To empathize just on the surface, I’ve been trying to leave on a long van trip. Got my car up-to-date and then had to replace my battery. Then my back passenger door wouldn’t open. My son put in the battery and fixed the door. Used my van for errands yesterday and my van’s air conditioner wouldn’t work. (I’m in Memphis). Have to take my car in to a shop to at least diagnose problem. Then this morning I was awakened by a hearing a drip, drip drip. We’re having rain-flash flood-lightning-thunder style weather. My ceiling had a big bubble of water in the corner. After consulting with my son, who works for the Navy and not easy to access, we got the dripping to lessen. I have to move the stuff in the corner and organize camp stuff in another room. My son’s family is on vacation. He couldn’t get away and I was supposed to leave last week for the west coast to visit my other grandchildren and absorb nature. .
So, Bunny, where was the adapter cord? That kind of thing happens to me daily. Once upon a time not looking for a lost item I did find a pencil in the frig. My sweetie used to tell me I should go to Vegas and have a show where I could make money making things disappear.
This is why I switched to windows and android years ago. I had a 2011 MacBook Pro which gave out in 2020, I was quoted almost $1200 to repair so I gave it up. I switched to a Android phone in 2021 and couldn't be happier. Apple has always been expensive but is definitely safer than Windows or Android but when they break or slow down in processing it basically turns into a brick.
For the kind of work that I do it just makes more sense to use Mac. Graphic design as much easier on a Mac, and after having work several years in the industry before even thinking about hitting the road, I couldn’t see myself using any other kind of product for the kind of jobs that I do behind-the-scenes it also makes doing what I do in front of the camera easier because I have everything in one system formatting and so it just works out better.
In the famous words, this too shall pass, and as this video was wrapping up, I think everybody could see that I was in a little bit better spirits because I was getting everything solved. It was a minor setback, but it felt like a catastrophe in the moment because it was super super stressful.
We definitely care about you and like you. I hate that you've had such a hard day yet so inspired with you being thankful and finding the positives during your "hydrant" day.

Sorry to hear this. Very frustrating!!! I’m sure you have tried everything, but wanted to make mention that one time when my laptop would not take a charge, it was the cord that was bad, Not my laptop.
Yes, but in reality, most of the people that I know who work in tech don’t do that. We are pretty much creatures of habits, and then the ones who do upgrade constantly usually are on the Borso upper end of tech as opposed to the grimy back end like I am where we do more so the graphic design and interactive media contact.
Bunny, I am glad that you looking for bright sides. I am enjoying the rare late July cooler weather so I can finish my van 🚐 grill replacement that turned into a bumper upgrade and has stretched to 3 months because it got too darn hot 🥵 to work outside.
Because I use these things for work and treat them extremely well well I always have treated my electronics so well that normally I don’t get a new phone until I have to. I don’t get a new computer until I absolutely have to.
I know this is behind, but --- take the unit to a repair shop (not a store) - have them remove or access the drive on the old unit and offload the data for you. Then proceed as you said, with getting a new unit. Good luck with the transfer from the old one to a new one. Also, there are all kinds of adapters (octapus), including wifi based ones, that let you plug in more USBs, so don't give up yet. I just went through "downsizing" with a supposed upgraded replacement -- fewer USB ports, no CD player, less hard drive space, new operating system. Yetch!

Hoping you are able to recover your files. If you have an Apple store and have them take your drive out and do the transfer. It’s another bend in the road. Bunny I know you were stressed out. Just try to relax. I had the same thing happen to me with my lap top. I found a company that said send them the hard drive, which best buy recommend, and they maybe able to retrieve the info on the bad computer. Unfortunately the hard drive was corrupted. So I lost everything. There is an event in quartzite AZ in January called RTR (Rubber Tramp Rendezvou) if your near quartzite in the beginning of January I would like to meet you. I know lots of people like chrome notebooks, but that will not work for me. Because of the projects that I do in way of design Mac products are simply better.
I'm experiencing just the opposite. My hard drive is in a bag where I keep some other electronics. And I can't find that bag. It has been misplaced for a couple weeks and I have gone through everything possible to find it. I need that external hard drive for several purposes One of which I upload my departed dad's sermons into RU-vid. I'm at a standstill because in that bag is not only the hard drive but also an external CD-ROM and yes cassette because a lot of his sermons are on cassette. So there you go I have the laptop but not the externals. You have the externals but not the laptop. What a day huh?

Some of it is there but other things will not allow to save unless i save the entire programming and that isnt the best when it comes to all the things i do... so i rebuilt a few things.... i have been wanting to add an end screen for a while so i just took this opportunity to do so
They should be able to transfer the data from your old hard drive into a new system. They have been doing it for years. Even if your computer is DOA they can just pull that old drive out. Don’t despair yet. I know how you depend on these postings for a living. Meanwhile it could be worse. My van DOA because it needs $1200 in repairs and I don’t have the cash. And no one to drive me around. And I also depend on my van to make a living.
Unfortunately, that was not an option with this particular issue that it was having after this video was made however, I was able to talk to someone who gave me some tips from a program perspective so we were able to recover some of the items
No its not gone. Check your internal harddrive or SSD. Check on the internet on how to open up your laptop. There you can retrieve all your data. And check on your icloud! If you did a backup of your files! Or if it makes backup on your icloud you can get them there! Good luck dont give up!❤
Sorry you lost your computer but dang that had to be a good brand to last that long. You can customize your computer to have USBs. Glad you backed up some things on hard drives. Changing things over to new computers does really suck.

Your not wrong. Guessing most nomads kinda think they do have an emergency fund, however what is "a nomads emergency" should be precisely defined. Upgrading to a "better vehicle" comes to mind. In addition an emergency fund I saved monthly for a new ride for years cause I knew the expense was coming it wasn't "an emergency".
It is always an annoying and frustrating time when a computer stops working. I use Windows based computers and I have had pretty good luck with my Dell hardware. I am currently still usig a desktop that I purchased about 12 years ago. It was fairly high end when I bought it and since then I have replaced the power supply, hard drive , and some case fans. I have spent less than $200 total in maintainence, which is OK. I changed the drive after about 8 years as I know that it was working fine, but getting close to its end of life. I was able to clone the drive which didn't take long. The other items were starting to get noisy so I waited for a good deal and replaced them. Unfortunately, electronic items often stop working without any notice. As others have mentioned, you may be able to have your drive removed and placed in a USB enclosure that will allow you to access its contents on another computer. Some of these enclosures only cost $10 to $20 and there are lots of videos on RU-vid to help you place your drive in an external enclosure.
Now that I have the new computer, things are going a bit bit better everything that was important has been recovered through the hard drives, and I was able to get all of my programming set back up that took a while while, but I was able to rebuild the things that I use from scratch
I really hate having to upgrade equipment, especially when it’s working fine unfortunately that puts me in a really bad situation whenever it’s not working fine anymore lol
With this being a MacBook Air, they said that it may not fix the issue and then it would just cost a lot to do that based on the error that I was given it wasn’t just a situation. It was something else as well.
If you don't know how, surely an apple tech can transfer your files to a SD drive that you can then use as an external drive to transfer to the new computer. I have everything of importance on a huge SDI external drive. But then I have a PC...never Apple.
I spoke to several people and we were able to to recover some of the things. However, the operating system did not allow me to recover the things I used to edit so I had to re-download and then start from scratch, but it has been fixed since this video was filmed so everything is OK.
Hard Drives Do Die, I have 3 to prove it..and I recently too had to get another laptop, I had to get a used HP and I need to get more memory for my new used laptop when I get more money so I finally got my new Corel Video Studio uploaded on the computer but I can't upload pics cuz I need more memory..ugh so I'm still doing vids on my cellphone.
Feeling like the hydrant more than the dog here in Wisconsin too lol , ---- AAAHHHH --- My van is a lemon ... pipes in doom at my homestead ... ZERO air conditioning in old droopy farmhouse and the ac quit in my van a couple monthscago... my emergency fund is drained because of too much happening all at once .... my only power station, my Jackery 500 died after having it only approx 4 months and Jackery is NOT standing behind their product thus far, its a costly frustration..... so no charging my phone nor able to plug in a fan .... I have more new issues with the van.... I literally have to live with my dogs bouncing back and forth house - sitting in the homes of friends. ....more health issues and like so many of us, just trying to get by one day at a time. I DO however have one of my best friends as main Care Taker of my property who just cleared more free parking / camping spots for friends who might be passing through.... Hmmmm..... The river. I just need to go Reset myself by sitting in the river. Seriously. ❤ ✌️
Unfortunately, that was not something that was a possibility with this particular model of computer and also with the age of it so I was able to do something slightly different to recover the files at least a portion I ended up having to rebuild a lot of things, though and my editing software from scratch because I could not recover those things

OK I have to ask dumb question, did you not have everything backed up? I would think even in your editing software they would have cloud storage for all of your settings.
I have all of my files backed up, but the problem is the operating system for which I edit. My videos will not allow you to back up all of the things that you have pre-programmed so I lost all of those and so I had to rebuild all of them in my videos. The problem is remembering how to do that so I made a few modifications to some of the videos that you all have already seen and will continue to see going out overtime.
OMG, I would be so lost, any time I need something done on my Kendall, cell phone, laptop even the home computer, I have to call one of my Grandkids!! Preferably the Granddaughter, for my phone, little snot put Verizon guy to shame a few yrs ago, by fixing someone's phone interrupting the sale the guy was forcing her to buy/replace the phone! But now they are 1500 miles away and I'm starting to need the 2 that make my "Tech Group"
Question: why don’t you just try and take it to an Apple computer place and have them look at it first because they are the experts? and you could be wrong. I’ve done that with something before . Never give up on something.
After having worked in tech, I called a dear friend of mine, who also works exclusively with Mac products and knows a lot of people who put me in contact with someone who is an expert to which we did his self diagnosis and he told me that unfortunately my computer needed to be replaced. I trust this man, also help me to be able to recover some of the things off of the computer and to basically override it so I could use it for one basic function however he said that my editing software was part of the problem because it had overloaded the computer overtime until ultimately there would be no covering of the computer as a whole
I think you should take off your socks and shoes and go run thru that luxurious green grass and then lay down in it and look up. You are a beautiful person in a beautiful place. Take the time to appreciate yourself and your world.
I get why you use laptops, but me personally, never again. I had one once, thing died in less than two years. Lost everything. I'll stick with my desktop. But I do understand laptops are way more convenient. But honestly... Desktops for me from here on out lol. So sorry that happened to you!
It just doesn’t make sense to use a desktop while traveling. It’s very dangerous on the road. A lot of variables can happen and so if I use any kind of desktop, it’s only at my base camp and since I travel 75% of the year that just doesn’t work.
Most people keep a computer for 2 to 4 years maximum and do far less than I do with it. This particular model realistically, I shouldn’t have probably purchased for what it is that I do. I stretched it to capacity and then some.
