Nice home but some odd design features: the dining room right at the main entrance, the microwave is way too low in that island and no pot filler by the range. In a home that’s a million plus, it’s a disappointment.
@hrussell9677
@hrussell9677 Год назад
I would make the front dining room into an office or library and just have one dining area off the kitchen and great room. Many people don’t feel the need for a pot filler-in fact many new houses don’t have them. But I would rearrange the plan so there is a master bedroom on the first floor, but this would require some reconfiguration of the first floor.

Great home but for $1million+ not happy about placing the microwave almost on the floor, dining area at the entrance could be designed into the great room with increased open spaces making the great room truly great. Like the simplicity of the interior walls and limited doors.

In Illinois, you could not put a bedroom in the basement. Building code requires that a basement bedroom have an egress window. The door alone would not be adequate,
@Hankitect
@Hankitect Год назад
I’m impressed that the staircase to the basement was left open with the matching guard and rail. That’s something most builders would charge a lot for. I also appreciate that they’ve utilized framing in the basement rather than having a bunch of posts, beams, hvac drops, etc. This lends itself to easily being able to finish the basement, and it won’t feel as much as a basement that was later finished.

I absolutely love this home! In the basement area, I would turn that into an apartment. In the 1 room on the main living area I would turn that into a library/playroom. The bedroom on the main living area, I would make that into an in law or guest room.

Way over priced for this location. $1.6mil and basements not finished and an additional room upstairs not finished. Only 3,800 sqft. Man when this periCovid housing bubble finally pops there are going to be tons of home owners holding larger upside down mortgages…. I will say the house is beautiful tho.

Lower level (basement) has lots of possibilities but only saw one egress being the door so not sure (local building standards) if any of the smaller outlined areas can be bedrooms without egress (window). Beautiful layout and accents.

I would call that ceiling in the breakfast area a sculpted ceiling.

Oh, this is such a lovely home. I like the mixture of colors. I really like the back lights as well. The main bedroom closet is stunning, I like it when they have built in drawers. And the room behind it, I would use for storage, there's always something to store. It can also be used as a getaway room similar to a panic room. Tim, I hope you All are enjoying your travels across America. Tfs.

You got me on this one Timothy. This floor plan is PERFECTION. Love the first floor flow and guest rooms, wish that hall bath was a full. Love that the master closet is connected to the laundry room. Only thing that seems like is poor use of space is that attic off the master closet. It's huge and just not accessible from other areas of the home to make it usable like a second office or crafts room. But I still am really feeling this one!

I love all the drawers in the kitchen! But I've noticed there are never any curtains or blinds, so I'm wondering at night can neighbors look in? Hoping they're special darkening windows or turn to a mirror. How could anyone enjoy the tub while the neighbors watch you.
@TimothyPLivingston

I think that part is up to the home buyer for the blinds and curtains. Builders want to show lots of natural light so most of them never include them

I like this house. I’ll take it! Lol Laid out well. Plenty of space. I would use the basement for storage and the space behind the master closet for an exercise room. All I need are those winning lottery numbers! I do get ideas from all your home tours; thank you for another great one.

A foyer should have spaces for coats and boots and wet umbrellas. Also it should be closed off from living space to keep 'windy weather' out. Showy houses are rarely practicle. A window above the bath, a microwave too low, walls that are hard to dust, wasted space, an exposed kitchen that allows oils and odors to permeate the home...

ONE OF A KIND DISASTER: Start with the approach from the driveway; look at the relationship between the roofline and the garage doors-If someone didn't care enough to get this right, there's no way I would trust them with the rest of the design. Do people just not care?

It has quarter round on the baseboards that right there is a red flag for me. It clearly shows they cared less about craftsmanship, and more about saving a buck.

Pretty much a nice place. The ole no front entry Coat Closet thing is going on here. That formal Dining Room to me would be a place to put a large Coat Closet and a sitting area. Even with guests I'd never use it with it detached from the rest of the house. That other dining area would be good enough for me. The Kitchen is near perfect. I don't like where the microwave is. I'd nix the double oven and put a microwave there. The range would have double ovens in it. I grew up with a range like I'm thinking of, it was my parents wedding gift from mom's parents. The difference would be nowadays it would be an induction cooktop with the latest oven tech. In a way I'd like a two level island. Have the sitting side lower for regular height dining chairs. Call me a heathen, but I'd nix the fireplace. I'm tired of them and got to where I'd never use it. I'd have a nice built in and get the tv down to a good viewing height. This is a good place for an elevator. If I could see the floor plans I'd like to plan for there to be the elevator and a staircase. I'd also like some egress windows in the basement. Not only for the safety but to add good light. That place might be good to have built into a hill making the basement a walk in on the backside.

I see so much wasted storage space in these homes. Sheesh. I like cabinets to the ceiling. You can put those pots you only use for mass feedings on holidays up there. Lol At that price the basement and extra room should be finished. It did have a lot of nice stuff though. I’m not a fan of having the tv up so high. I would think laying on the couch on my side to watch tv would be impossible if it were so high up. If I had that laundry room I would keep my hamper behind the door, and put a laundry chute hole in the wall coming from the closet. That way my 22 year old could do our Laundry without coming into the closet that’s attached to the bathroom. You don’t want your husband to walk into the closet after a shower and see his grown daughter getting the dirty laundry, scarring them both for life. 🤣 (I am just sayin! I would have wanted to throw up then die if I ever saw my dad naked. 🤢 🤣 I saw him in boxers walking to the bathroom on Saturday mornings sometimes if my bedroom door was open. That was enough scarring for me. Lol) She could fold our laundry and stack it on the counter and we could get it later. I would make the extra unfinished space in that master closet a finished closet without the door and have the wall studs done differently so you could access that extra storage space from the bottom of the closet. I would make the access hole big enough to crawl into and keep tubs of stuff like memorabilia from childhood in. Stuff you don’t need to be getting out very often. Then I would not need as much closet space up front so I’d take a small part of the closet up front and make it a little sitting area. I do need LOTS of closet space. Men wear pants and shorts. Women wear shorts, capris, pants, short medium and long skirts and short medium and long dresses. We legitimately need at least 3x the space! If we are “size jumpers” who go between 3 and 4 sizes we need even more space. I have my “very small right now”, my “a little too small right now” and my “too big” tubs of clothes. Thyroid issues are no joke. You can gain 5 lbs while sleeping! Lol Or you could make that room a secret spy room and finish the door to look like the wall. And when the kids are getting on your nerves you could “disappear” 😂. I totally would have loved a secret room growing up!! Oh my gosh yes!!!

Home doesn't have enough wall space to put certain pieces of furniture in the living room and the home is over priced for Not being totally finished out. The insulation is not top notch and from what I saw in the ceiling rafters of the basement area not even put in very well so again over priced for what you get. Yes will still fetch a good amount and I'm not saying isn't a nice home it's just not to the standard of a home should be in the price point you gave.

This is just so pathetic. They build this nice custom home, and can't even be bothered to do the floors and baseboards right. Why would you build such a nice home and then put quarter round? The second I see quarter round, it just speaks of poor design and build.
