Why Howdy!! I've been playing banjo just a little over a month, and this is my first attempt at 'Cripple Creek'!!! Hope y'all enjoy! Subscribe for more! God bless! #cripplecreek #banjo
Strong work Miss Elizabeth! I been playing for 50 years or so and I believe you got it. Stay with it smooth it out a little and you will be good to go. Get up with as many folks that will play a tune with you as you can find somebody whose playing speaks to you and learn some of their licks and phrasing. Eventually you will develop your own style. Good luck and keep on pickin
Thank you for the comment!! That's awesome that you've been playing for so long! I've actually been playing for over two years now. I enjoy doing it, and you are right....playing with people is the best way to learn and improve! Thanks again, and God bless! ♥️🪕
I was playing with a Bluegrass band back in the 2000s and we were on a local morning TV show promoting a Bluegrass festival. We had gone to a commercial break just before the end and our banjo player handed the banjo to the TV girl. He told her "pluck this string, this string and that string." She did and he said "do it again." She did. He said "do it again but faster." She did and by the time we came back from the commercial break she was playing a little banjo roll. She kept playing as she wrapped up and we were out. You never saw such a big smile in your life. She just kept saying "I played the banjo! I played the banjo!"
I'm impressed girl. That's great!!! I bought me a banjo yesterday... I played guitar since I was five... I'm 70 now!! All he got to do is practice practice practice!! I'm like you. The internet is full of information to learn from! Keep on picking!!❤
That's awesome Pamela! Keep it up, and keep practicing! I have some lessons posted here on the channel if you would like to check them out! God bless you. ♥️
One month? I think you’re doing great! Keep it up. I picked up the banjo about 2 1/2 months ago and I’m not doing that well, of course I’m about 2 1/2 times your age so my brain doesn’t work like it used to. But, that said, I think you are doing very well.
Mighty fine! Honestly, I think most modern players play the traditional songs TOO fast. Cumberland Gap is another example. You have a nice steady roll, though!
Wow! Super impressed for a couple of months. Tbh, it's actually really nice to hear an old classic played slowly. You have a nice sense of tempo, and it adds to it.
That is just wonderful, lovely slides and clear pull offs throughout, and the 'up the neck' section had great timing; there is also another part to the up the neck section which yhou could throw in, either in Bill Keith's or Tony Trishkas melodic banjo. BTW, that banjo has a lovely ring and great tone, what model is it? Best Tim......you're going places!
@@elisabethemory Its a pleasure, makes my old 70's Ibanez Artist sound a bit ropey! saw the Kruger bros here in the UK a while ago, event sponsored by Deering. Greg Deering brought dozens of top banjos and Jens Kruger played several for me, he was simply 'other worldly', what a player!
Hey that's not bad for just one month in and no formal instruction. Just work on your three basic rolls, over and over and over, and your major cords in just one key at a time, and it will start getting easy and natural. Once you got the basics down and you can vamp along with a song, recognizing and matching the chord changes, buy a few song books and learn to play from tablature. Most bluegrass banjo tunes are passed around in tablature form. You did well, to learn Cripple Creek at a slow speed. Your timing and rhythm are more important than raw speed, and in time you will be playing at a more natural sounding speed, and amazing people who don't realize how simple 5 string banjo actually is.
By the way Elisabeth I am left handed also. I just play right handed. The old saying is that … Everyone is born left-handed until they sin. Then they become right-handed. That makes for a good joke, just not a true one because I John 1 says if we say that we have not sinned we make God a liar… sooo we’re all sinners because we were born in sin. That’s why God sent His Son. To save us from our sins and our selves.
Very well done! You have the basics of rhythm, meter and melody down pat. You might explore “Banjo in the Hollow” by the Dillards. It’s based on that up the neck interlude you played. Good luck!
I've been playing for over two years now!! That's so awesome! Also, yes. Jim Pankey, William Nesbitt, Willow Osborne, Eli Gilbert, and more have hood lessons and tutorials! I also have some instructional videos on my channel. I'll continue to post more soon!! Thanks for the comment, God bless! :)
Hey girl! I’m just starting to learn the banjo got one for Christmas. I’ve learned Cripple Creek but a different version. Where did you learn this one?? It’s awesome and more difficult than the one I know and am pretty familiar with.
Hey!! I think it may have been a tutorial from William Nesbitt on RU-vid. He has some great videos! So does Jim Pankey. I've been playing for over two years now, and I have some banjo lessons here on my channel if you want to check them out! Thanks for the comment. Have a great day, and Jesus loves you! ❤️
Good pig and young lady keep up the good work the speed will come to you keep playing slow what are you can hit every note that you’re supposed to I’ve been playing since 1974. I also have a Stelling stag, horn banjo. Sounds good keep up the good work.
Thank you so much!! I've actually been playing for a little over two years now! This is an old video. You can watch more of my recent videos here on my channel. 😄🪕
GOOD FOR YOU YOUNG LADY STICK WITH IT !!!!!! LET ME GUESS YOU HAVE BEEN LEARNING FROM JOHN MOORE VIDEOS, EXCELLENT CHOICE MIGHT ALSO CHECK OUT JIM PANKEY
So was this recordsed in a mirror with a fill in background or do you actually have a lefty bango? Regardless a fine presentation of a great old tune! Thank you. p.s. when I went searching for a lefty instrument the fellow at the music store said it was better to stick with the normal layout as it's easier to swap instruments and untimatley most of the music gets made up on the fretboard with the left hand.
Hey! I recorded this video using the "selfie" camera on my phone, so it reversed the image. But that's so cool to be a lefty!!! Keep on pickin'! God bless
Youl do for me spud thats great for a month ive got the guitar basics down id like to do the banjo as well if thats only a month well done . Greetings from Wales UK who knows i might play on my channel but i wont get a head of myself lol i will carry on with my diy stuff for now take care Ant .
No, I didn't play guitar at the time. I strum a bit now though. I've been playing for a little over two years on the banjo! Thanks for watching, God bless
whats wrong with playin it slower? everyone wants to haul ass on the banjo, but it has such a nice sound slowed down too that so many people ignore. very well done, i hope i can play as good as that some day
No, not really. I could strum a couple of songs, but barely! Haha. I have a video about my "banjo journey" here on my RU-vid channel! I've been playing for over two years now. I've had a lot of help from RU-vid and Jesus!! :)
Thank you! I've been playing for a little over two years since this video. I still have a lot to learn, but I've progressed in a lot of areas! I have a video of my first entire year on the banjo here on the channel! 😄🪕
Keep it up! 👏 That is fantastic that you can play left handed!!! My camera is actually flipped around on "selfiemode" so I'm not left handed. Thank you for watching!! God bless. 😄🪕
I have had a banjo for a long time, but never stayed with it to learn. Now, much older, and trying a lot harder now. If I don't learn this time, then I will just get rid of it. It is a lot harder to learn as you age, but I really enjoy it. Love banjo music. Do you have any newer videos playing now?
I have a lot of newer videos here on my channel! Don't give up! I have a beginner banjo lessons series on the channel. I'll continue to show rolls, chords, etc.
Elisabeth,I am really impressed! For one month out,you are doing fantastic.Very smooth and I promise you, the speed and accuracy will come. You'll be all over the neck before you know it!
Thank you so much!! I've been playing for two years now! 😄🪕 I'm still learning something on the banjo all the time, though! I have some more recent videos here on the channel. Thanks again. God bless and Merry Christmas! ❤️🎄
@@Bobcagon Hello! Thank you! I've been practicing a LOT lately just because I'm Preforming in public for the first time Saturday. But I'd say if you're a beginner, 20 to 30 minutes a day maybe 5 to 6 days a week would be great! As you progress, you can move it up to 40 minutes of practice a day! Thank you for your question, if you need to know anything else, feel free to ask! God bless you!
Well, I'd definitely give it a try if you're interested!! There're many awesome channels that help me learn, like Jim Pankey, William Nesbitt, Willow Osborne, Eli Gilbert, and more! I also have a few lessons and tutorials, and I'm going to continue posting instructional videos. :) You could start with a less expensive banjo, and see if you like it. If you do, you could get something else.
No, I didn't really play much of anything else at the time...I'm starting to play more guitar, and I'm working on the piano. I've been playing the banjo for two years now!
You’re a natural, I give guitar lessons and the first thing I tell them is when you first start guitar or anything you’re as bad as you’ll ever be ! If you keep going and don’t give up you are going to get better!!!
Yeah, when I posted this two years ago, I worded it wrong. I guess I meant, my first attempt at making a banjo video. I had been practicing for a couple of weeks. I guess I should change the title 😂
@@elisabethemory wasn’t throwing any hate I hope u knew that!! I’ve seen a couple of your videos and your great!! I just started learning and playing cripple creek and I was like there is no way this is here first attempt 😂
Saw your channel for the first time today. If that is only one month of playing I'll be needing to subscribe to see what you are doing now 2 years later. Excellent for only one month.👍
One year later.... I'm just now watching your video and want to commend you on the clarity and accuracy after just one month! Well done! I recall the first days of my banjo journey (pre RU-vid and internet) learning from books and those first songs that sound like banjo pickin' is what keeps you at it. I hope you are still picking and will check your videos to see progress. Happy pickin', keep up the good work. The speed and complexity will come with time but it's evident you've started off focusing on clarity and timing. That's clearly cripple creek and sounded like it!
Hello Dan! Thank you for the compliment! I've been playing for a little over two years now. You can check out some of my more recent videos! God bless you.
I learned watching videos from the channels William Nesbitt, Willow Osborne, Jim Pankey, and I have posted a few lessons here on the channel. I've been playing for over two years now. 😊🪕
I sure have! It's been a fun journey for sure, and I thank the Lord, and RU-vid for it! I have more videos on my channel! Thanks, and God bless you Cal. 😄👍🪕
