Thanks so much for this whole series. I ruptured mine almost 3 weeks ago and had surgery two days ago. Pretty much on your same path as far as the pain and the nerve block. Hoping I’m able to recover as quickly as you did as it seems like you get your mouth stones pretty fast. Mine is also my right leg And beyond wanting to walk, I would do anything to be able to drive again already. Congratulations on the wedding and the pregnancy and successful recovery.

Wishing you the best & most safe recovery! I ruptured my Achilles in 2007 and was misdiagnosed so I never got the surgery. It healed on its own after 8 months but I never quite felt as quick or athletic as before.

Thank you so much for the video series. You've helped to calm my anxiety and prepare me mentally for the long road ahead which is what I needed. I just injured my Achilles while playing basketball as well last Friday. I'm in the early stages of trying to line up appts. I hope to get all of the prelim appts. scheduled and taken care of this week. I also live in SD BTW.

Great video & super informative. Just tore my left achilles here 🤦🏿‍♂️. Although you can walk it’s not best to walk on it as you’ll only separate the ends even more. Best thing to do is crutch around and have your foot pointed down as much as possible in a boot/cast. This is crucial in the first 24-48 hours. 🙏🏿

Glad you found the video informative! And thanks for sharing your perspective as well. My medical team never advised me against walking on it and I had to wait 2 weeks to get surgery - it worked out fine for me but definitely something people could consider and ask their medical team about! Appreciate the insight :)

Speedy recovery! I as well tore mine last year in November playing basketball. I had surgery on December 7th and I was in a cast and boot with no weight bearing for about 5 weeks. I started walking about a month ago and I’m also on week 4 of PT. I’ve improved so much but still have a long way to go! Good luck!
@HelloImAlexa
@HelloImAlexa 2 года назад
Oh wow! Yep, I'm approaching my 2 week post-op mark and I'm so ready to get started with weigh bearing. Doctor had me start just doing some exercises to move my foot around and that's been quite painful so I can only imagine what's to come 😅 Sending you healing wishing as well! Thank you.

Thank you for your videos!! I recently ruptured my Achilles playing basketball. At the time I thought someone stepped on me. I was actually angry about it. After reading and watching this video I know realize that sensation was just the injury.

Hi, your video is so helpful for me. I tore my Achilles tendon on Sat playing tennis. Its extremely painful and I'm in a cast, waiting to find out about surgery. Just like you I am very active, had to stop tennis during lockdown and got into running. I had several fitness goals that I now have to put aside. Your videos give me hope I might be able to get back to full fitness, thanks for your advice.

Hi, I came across your video as I'm getting ready for my Achilles surgery tomorrow. I'll watch your Achilles series and hope to benefit from what you have posted already. But, I'm wondering if you have made a video on things that worked and things to try to avoid during the recovery post-op?

Hmmm maybe once you've watched the full series -- let me know if you still have any specific questions! I think your question may be answered already in a video. Best of luck 💪

Well, I played basketball every day in my 20s and 30s ... but I waited until two weeks ago (at age 66) to tear my Achilles. Having been severely injured in the military many years ago, the recovery timeline for this doesn't necessarily frighten me. But I am concerned about not being able to heal properly at my age. I just got my cast off and stitches out today, 13 days after surgery, and I am shocked at how much the calf muscle looks atrophied already.
@HelloImAlexa
@HelloImAlexa Месяц назад
Oh dang -- yeah I hope recovery goes well for you! It really is wild how quickly you lose muscle when you stop using it 😣

Just curious, at the intro of this video it shows you walking up to your seat with crutches in hand then you speak you said your basketball accident happened a few days ago. How were you able to put weight on it so soon, even with a boot? I'm not finished with the video yet so maybe there are additional details, but that stuck out as soon as I started watching. I had full rupture 5/29/2023 and my surgery was 6/22/2023. I have watched several of your videos prior to my surgery to figure out what to expect, and now I'm re-watching some of the videos based on my current timeline. You have a lot of great information that has helped me understand some expectations and also give me some benchmarks. Thank you.
@dingdinglai

ok, well about 13 minutes in you cover it. I was not able to walk, or at least was told not to. Thanks!
@HelloImAlexa
@HelloImAlexa Год назад
Glad my videos have been helpful!! Yeah to clarify further -- I was not told I shouldn't walk on it explicitly or anything. I was only really able to walk on it post-surgery with the boot on anyway. Wishing you a smooth recovery 💪

Hey there! Your videos are going to be super helpful for me. I just hurt my achilles yesterday playing pickup bball and went to urgent care, with the thompson test the doctor there also confirmed its likely a tear. Question for you - I also found a specialized sports medicine doctor I want to see but they're not available till April 5th, so would be 12 days post injury. I can get in with a non specialized orthopedic surgeon asap, but ultimately Im pretty sure I will want to go with the specialized surgeon. Shoud I still go see the other ortho asap? do you think I should just wait it out until the person I want to see is available?
@HelloImAlexa
@HelloImAlexa 5 месяцев назад
Ooooh I would totally wait for the specialist. I had such a good experience with mine and he was clearly so experienced and has the athlete mindset in mind. If you’re in the U.S. and need MRI to verify for insurance like I did then maybe meet with a herbalist to get that referral for MRI but then go with the specialist from there on out. Does that make sense? Hope that helps!

Torn my Achilles on thanksgiving day 2022. About a month ago . I was playing basketball as well . The doc thinks I completely tore mine . Such a scary overwhelming process when you are use to being active.I’m in the waiting period of when I’ll have surgery . I do want to return back to playing..

did you sleep in your boot prior to surgery? how did you sleep at night post op? boot on or off? assuming that you used the the leg raise pillow.
@HelloImAlexa
@HelloImAlexa 4 месяца назад
I didn’t! Only afterwards when my doctors protocol required it. Post-op it was on at night until I was out of the boot completely. And yes I used the leg raise pillow every night after surgery until I was out of the boot. Hope that’s helpful!

Thank you so much. Did you experience any bruising in your foot prior to the surgery? I was good for the first 3 days but noticed a bruise today. They gave me a boot said I get around on it until surgery on Thursday. I’m just curious.
