Some notes: 1) Found toe warmers in my console in the morning. LOL. Oh well. 2) I don't have a carbon monoxide alarm... the topper is full of air leaks/gaps. It's FINE. 3) I prefer HOT ROCKS, warmed in a fire, stashed in wool socks for warming my feet. Without a fire, no hot rocks. 4) I've never tried a hot water bottle, but neither hot rocks or water bottle would last more than 2-3 hours. (I've tested hot rocks for weeks on end in much warmer temps.) 5) The tailgate and glass stay open at night. I can lock my wooden doors. 6) The side windows OPEN in case of emergency. 7) I don't plan on adding any more insulation or building anything permanent in the truck. 8) I'm not worried about sasquatch or dog man. 9) The coldest I've experienced living in Alaska was a few days at -60 F. Not camping weather. But neither is -17. LOL THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!

Love to go camping with you Brooke! And to watch you build stuff is so satisfying. I love doing things that are constructive like your projects! We bought 5 acres on a lake here . No home on it yet...prices of everything is too high! I miss a home...ours burned last year and took everything with it, no insurance. My animals all died in there. So when I watch you create homey places, it gives me hope....thanks for that Brooke❤️

Cold feet winter camping you say. Here's a tip. Boil some water and put it in a Nalgene before you go to bed. Toss it in your bag and send it towards your feet for the night. Then, when you wake up during the night thirsty, take a sip of warm water. In the morning you hydrated and supplemented your feet comfort all in one. I've done this a bunch. Take care.

My dad was a traveling salesman in the 1960's in Michigan, and he used a slide in pick-up truck camper to cover the upper and lower parts of the state. He talked about cold weather like that, and blizzard conditions, and I sensed he really loved it. Many of the businesses he called on, were surprised to see him in such bad weather, so he usually made good sales, because I imagine they would feel some guilt if they wouldn't support someone who was willing to brave such terrible weather conditions to keep them well supplied. You have to remember that those times were much different than today.

I'd say making a window covering out of "Reflectix" would be the best, like van campers use for their black out/sun shield/cold shield, for the big van windows. Only down side to me is not seeing out, but that is good for night, inside privacy, tho.

Hi Brooke. Love your channel. When Mom & I used to go camping, she would be cold at night. I made pouches out of washcloths to hold 2 hand, foot or body warmers (which ever ones I could get). Then about 30 to 60 minutes before bed I would activate the warmers, and put them in the pouches. I’d put one at the bottom of the sleeping bag for her feet, one about half way up and one up where her shoulders would be. This helped Mom stay warm for most of the night. Just thought this might help you be warmer in your topper.

I loved this . What a cozy little camper space you have created . I love watching your videos Brook . I live in the Canadian Maritimes . I have physical limitations and require a wheelchair , but I have started solo camping , and I am having a ball . I use a tent that I am able to drive my wheelchair right in to . Doctors were treating my chronic pain , that I was left with after damage from bone tumors , with heavy narcotics for over twenty years . So I basically slept through those 20 years of my life , but I don't take any of them anymore , and I am treating my pain myself now in other ways and I started trying to do more things . I'm not very "able" so what we do is my adult sons come and set up my tent for me and then they leave me to do my camping on my own and I am having so much fun . Thanks so much for inspiring me . Please keep posting your adventures . They are wonderful to watch and may inspire more women to get outdoors and try things 😀

Love your swinging doors. So much more civilized. I lived in truck for years with various kinds of makeshift heat like little buddy. Then 4 months ago I finally sprung for a real furnace. Propex thermostat controlled fully vented propane heater. All exhaust goes out through the floor. Only clean dry heat pumped inside my cap. Set the thermostat (say 45°) and it turns on and off as needed throughout the night. TOTALLY CHANGED MY LIFE! No more struggle to stay warm and no more frost and condensation. Just push the on button and you are comfy warm. Can't recommend it enough and can't believe I waited so long to get it.

I’m basically living in the back of my pick-up like that. All propane needs to be warmed up first. Also, fan would be good to circulate the heat from the Buddy Heater (maybe the next size up would help for your heating needs). The biggest problem with propane is moisture. So if you have wood in your truck it might get moldy. I also have two sleeping bags. My Coleman is rated for -40 F. But that’s too much now as I get hot in it. Now I use the lighter one. It makes a difference that my truck is insulated like a home though. Lastly, having an extra pair of inserts can be used just as and for slippers. Some of the stuff you’ve done here I’ve been doing for seven years now. 🙂

Brooke, Another tip to help evenly warn the camper. Next time bring a medium size pot, fill it with water and then just boil the water. Don't take it off the burner. The boiling water creates humidity and humidity covers then entire camper all at once warming the place up. I learned this back in the 70s when we lost electric due to a snow storm and dad pulled out his propane stove and "cooked" to large pots of water and it warmed the place up pretty quickly.

My record is -8F. I slept under a tarp. I'm perfectly happy if I never break that record. I've camped below 0 one other time, several times in single digits, several in the teens, and a bunch in the 20s. For my feet, I use those toasty toes or even hand warmers between 2 layers of socks. One trick that also helps me is to pull the toe of my socks a couple of inches away from the ends of my toes. That little extra air space makes a lot of difference. Congrats on your record!!

Updated: I just happened to see your channel, and others similar channels recently, and I think that you, and others sharing their actual reality, and some have expressed some of the up, and down sides to van, RV, or vehicle living. I believe that it is very helpful, and beneficial to others who may be thinking about this type of living without actually thinking through, about the some of the realistic problems that could occur with vehicle or van living etc. People need to know what up sides there are, as well as some of the down sides of vehicle living. I believe this channel, and other channels have been informative to others, including myself. Although, I am NOT living in a vehicle or anything like this. I feel that you , and others RU-vidrs sharing this with your viewers will be very helpful. I wish you ALL the Best with your traveling endeavors. I shared this with another traveler as I watched their RU-vid channel for the first time, as yours, and I shared with them this information that may be helpful to you as well to others. Therefore, I would also like to suggest a few Safety tips, and items that may help you, or others in your viewing audience. Although, you may have knowledge of this already, I am not sure, so I hope this will be helpful to you, others or someone. *Keep a Extra working cellphone with you or in your vehicle. You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage Do your research for the best fit for you Carry Several Extra portable phone chargers, and cables. Consider theses items: *Mini portable power charging station. I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices. *Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell reception, Research to see what you prefer. *Very Inportant: Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location. There are various types of these devices, and including devices that can be used when boating or camping situations. *Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders. Some can be synchronized with your smart watch or phone. You can check online, and on Amazon, research what SOS devices will be a good fit for you. *Mini portable vehicle battery charger-( portable vehicle battery jumper cables ) *Vehicle Jumper cables *Keep a Fire extinguisher handy Mounted Dashboard camera front and rear possibly. Exterior vehicle cameras Interior vehicle cameras *Flashlights or pluggin spotlights *Portable spotlights, and lanterns Keep a few whistles around with you, and in your vehicle possibly in your vehicle’s center console *A set of long range 2 way radios, walkie talkies, with others during trips, some have 100 mile radius keep for emergencies. Use your own discretion regarding the use of any weapons. Don’t forget to bring Bear Spray Pepper spray Where is allowed Keep in contact with your family, friends etc. Although, I just noticed your RU-vid channel, and other similar channels. You seem Very Aware of your surroundings and Alert, and you may be aware of many of these suggestions, however, I Don’t know, so I just posted this anyway to help anyone who may benefit from these suggestions. Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions. Keep your vehicle gas filled Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty. Fill it up anyway, it will save you alot of time, and headache later on. Keep Extra financing, and savings for any unexpected issues, vehicle repairs, and overnight stays, in a emergency or if you need to rest indoors. Keep Enjoying Yourself, Keep Enjoying the outdoors, and Nature Just..Please continue to Be Positive, Safe, and Alert.. Wishing Success, Well-being and Happiness You All. Brooke my girlfriend was given a pair of heated socks for Christmas so when she goes out to tend to her horse in the winter was the idea she wouldn't freeze as much. I had no clue such a thing was available and she says they are amazing. So maybe worth looking into. For some reason in the first video with the camper build I thought you had a little bigger space heater beside the pottie but I must have missed properly what it was. However ok jeepers -17 below that was brutal cold so you did amazing. It still looks cozy and a safe place to be. Thank you for taking us on the walk to the Falls holy they are beautiful. hugs

Under the driver seat there should be a heat vent for the back seat. Maybe you could rig a heat vent to go from there to the back of the truck to keep it a more comfortable temperature while driving so it’s easier to keep a livable temp once you settle in. Or get a grizzly stove.

You're such a trail-blazer Brooke !!!! Get out there ,Get cold, and Get happy !!!!! The choice to trust God and let Him lead you, is so darn inspiring , God bless you for being such a bright light shining out His glory Brooke. Next time take some of those hand/feet warmer things I see homesteaders using in the cold & snow. At least if your toes get cold , you'll be able to rewarm them enough for your sox and sleeping bag to maintain a warm blood flow. Also try to remember to keep your toes and feet moving inside the sox /boots etc, to keep blood moving. Putting feet INSIDE sleeping bag BEFORE they get cold will also help your poor circulation. If you already know all this and didn't do it , then you're def a silly sausage 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣You're absolutely the cheeriest cold camper I've ever seen 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I have the exact opposite...I have turned the A/C on directly on my over heating feet. Once my pain meds kick in again they will not be so exceedingly hot !!! All part of the back injury and nerve damage unfortunately but it could be so much worse so I'm not complaining(not out loud at least)!!!!!🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 Bless you dear lady , you can't help but stir the enjoyment within me whenever I watch you enjoying Gods glorious nature He prepared for you and to share with us, esp ones like me, who thru injury etc can no longer live this kind of life but we can do it vicariously thru you and your adventures. I share Jesus , crucified & resurrected for each and every person , for the forgiveness of sin ,and a new life in the power of the Holy Spirit, over the internet, every opportunity I get. See, God wastes nothing ... .. even tho I can't be out & about touching lives with His glorious love, I can do it via the social networks that reach people all over the world. 👏👏👏We must all let His light burn bright wherever we are...just as you're doing as you travel and post it on YT. So happy I watched you today....biggest of hugs and love from the Land Down Under aka Australia 🇭🇲😍💞🙏🤗🙏💞✌👍🙏

... was snowed in at a hunt camp many years ago with a brother and Dad ,, in 3 straight days and nights gathered knee deep snow ,, closed all the access roads in the area ,, no thermometer but down to about -20 * high Western Rockies about 11,000ft.,,, and also in a hot tent so really no problem ,, except my brother was broke down on the back of another mountain a few miles away with no real gear ( he was out scouting an interesting area),, after the snow let up we went out to search for him ,, found and made makeshift repair to get back to base camp .... not a fan of winter camping without a hot tent .. did a lot of early spring and late fall outings to fish with set up in back of my truck ,, had one of those extra long Suburbans ,, took the back seat out and had a full size double bed mattress ,, but always had a propane heater along if it got too cold .. the older I get , I don't like being cold and wet ..... when the temps drop to cold feet time I put on the heavy calf high rag wool socks and down booties ,,, does the job nicely ....

In my old minivan, I would temporarily set it up to camp at out-of-town workshops... I used sewing pins to hang a curtain from the headliner, used a thermarest and a twin size memory foam pad for my bed... peed at night in a laundry detergent jug... it was awesome really... just me, and just 3 or 4 nights at a time. A classmate drove by while I was reading one evening with the sliders open. She jammed on the brakes and was just amazed! Soccer mom on the outside, hippie van on the inside! Maybe when Hubz gets back on his feet I'll do something more permanent with the wheelchair van!

Hi Brooke, Amazon sells the same bag for $749. I really like your camper, you did a very nice job fixing it up. I'm surprised that Buddy heater didn't heat you out of there. I just bought the newest Mr. Heater called the BuddyFlex it heats 180 degree radius and has an attachment seprately sold you can cook on. I like it alot. Great video, Brooke! Here's a little cold weather tip for you in that situation, something that happened to me. The door locks frozen and not even the key would work. Keep a small can of WD-40 with you that has the red spray tube. If your door locks freeze, simply insert the red tube into the key slot and spray. Immediately insert your key and the door should unlock. Want you safe!

@@debbiebolek2117, not sure what you’re asking, Debbie, just know that it is cold in the desert (relatively so) in the winter months and the wind is beastly and confining, at least in AZ. In those temperatures I would consider fitting an inexpensive diesel air heaters to enable comfortable camping at virtually any temperature. With the remote, the heater can be switched on 20 minutes before stopping to camp so that the camper is lovely and warm. Window covers will help at lot, too. I love your double doors and windows, they really make your camper quite special.
