I Just SOLD The BIGGEST Shop On YouTube... What Am I Going To Do Now?

It's been roughly two years since I bought the biggest automotive shop on RU-vid and now it's sold. The right offer came along and without hesitation I said let's make it happen. What started as a super rough old building turned into a pretty good looking place I got a lot of work done in. Now it's time for a new chapter, one that's built from the ground up where everything is designed to work on cars and make videos. There will also be 100% less interruptions from trains, and more efficiency than I could've ever dreamed of at the warehouse.
MERCH: shopWatchJRGo.com
Shop Motul: motul.com
---------------------------------------------------------------
Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make RU-vid videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

I’ll just say it - there are a lot of automotive RU-vidrs that “do well” on various investments and most folks roll their eyes. However, I think everybody is genuinely happy for you. You broke your back turning this place around and deserve every cent you got back. Well done 👏

Congrats on selling the 2 buildings. Great idea to build exactly what you want from scratch as it allows you to have a lower ceiling first of all. Then use state-of-the-art insulation, lighting and HVAC and your costs will be greatly reduced. Stay away from the railroad tracks! :) I'm so impressed by how far you have come since leaving IT. That was their loss, and I too left high-tech and never looked back. Thanks for sharing.

@@npolite22 yep that's how it goes, I've been in it for 14 years now mostly as a generalist systems admin. Getting tired of having random projects being dropped in my lap with unrealistic deadlines, just spent the last year doing a full Identity and access management suite completely on my own. And I didn't get to have any input on the project and management had already signed a contract for an overly complex system that I don't have time to manage before I was even aware that we were putting something in place. Not to mention I'm juggling Windows, VMware, O365, KnowBe4, NetApp, PDQ, Networking/Firewall, ERP, PowerShell scripting and now learning DBA stuff on top of all of that because our sole DBA left. I have one somewhat useful helpdesk guy and a manager who mostly just deals with CRM. Makes me feel like a one man band, guess I'll keep on marching for now.

An optimism I can't share. Always has been a mystery to me how some people can still say something positive about a failure, especially such an expensive one. I'd be mad and angry at me for having made such a devastating decision and now have to let go of something I poured blood, sweat and money in. I am greatly impressed. I couldn't recover from that, especially after being on the verge of losing more than my shop.Respect and my best wishes.

After renovating and adapting a family house to host weddings and parties, I have to say that you cannot overstate the hidden costs of it. Starting fresh is usually a better option and gives you the freedom to make it the way it should be. I started watching your vids looong ago but even living in a different country with different building code, I thoroughly enjoyed the shop series. I guess it had the same flip theme as the cars, and I'm glad you did well on it. Just by the things you mentioned in the last vid and the endless possibilities you may already be imagining (since it looks like you can do anything apparently) I can definitely say you are on the right track. Have fun mate! Looking forward to see where it'll be!

My main Hussle is Solar and I agree, Solar and Battery system is the way to go...look into heat pumps/geothermal for the HVAC. My clients who have gone "net-zero" on their utilities have gone geothermal for their heating/cooling needs and now that you can get 400watt and high panels you can build a bad-ass system to run a business/shop❤️👍.

This is pretty much my favorite channel. I’m a bit nervous for it to be changing, however I know the new digs will be epic. Excited for you man.

I'm glad you made money on the deal. With the way you have been selling things I thought you might have been in trouble. I hope wherever you build is close to an auto parts store. If you want to do solar powered HVAC, you will need lots of solar ($100,000+) and very heavy insulation. Someone on RU-vid is doing an ICF wall "barndominium" which might be a good way to get that wall insulation. The high R-value roof insulation can be done in a few ways. A vented "cold roof" with insulation blown in above a ceiling might be the cheap option. Rigid foam board on top of the roof deck makes a "hot roof" but it's not cheap. Spray foam is probably the most expensive. I want to do grid independent solar also but mine will be less than 3,000 ft^2, with three AC zones, the living area (72°), the shop area (55-85°) and the storage area (40-95°) so I won't be cooking or freezing my storage, my shop will be mostly ok and my living area will be full comfort, all without needing a huge solar array because everything will be well insulated.

Assuming you have the space; it is better to put solar panels on the ground.

I'm honestly never surprised anymore when ever JR says he sold something, he's kinda the anti-Hoovie in that it's _all_ potentially for sale at a moments notice.

Super happy for you, JR. I have loved every episode about your shop from the beginning. Incredibly informative and a lot of fun to watch. Looking forward to your future shop videos.

Wow JR, what a bombshell! I know that you have learned a lot from the experience. New shop from scratch and hopefully miles away from any railroad tracks. Can't wait for the new chapter to begin. Thanks for all the great content. And we'll see you next time.

How does a solar roof work with hail in Kansas? Curious, not knocking.

I didn't know you were selling the house too. Congrats on the new building even though I'm sure it is a little sad leaving after all of the work you guys put into that building. They have special roof shingles now that are solar but don't look like bulky solar panels. Good luck!
