Thanks for the review...to ease the tension on the knife rather than sawing you can also take an emery board (nail file) and take a SMALL amount of material off the nubs on the INSIDE bottom of the sheath. and I mean SMALL....Our sheaths come from the factory TIGHT but break in with use. The nubs compress over time and the retention will last a long time. Also, the Outrider SAK is a great tool as is the Farmer X.

Thank you so much for watching. I have done the sanding of the knobs and that is actually harder to do than sawing. I shave down the knobs on the IZULA sheaths and that works great.. I also account for the fact that there is going to be some break in so I don’t make it too loose at first. ESEE is the reason why my passion for knives was reignited. It happened when you guys first came out. I was actually on your very short list of the dealers for a time back when you were RAT. I’m really enjoying that knife! I’m going to try and dye the handles though. I no lots of us would really like to have some other handle color options. As always, thank you so much for a product that is unequaled and community participation that is also unequaled.

Is the blade blank the same on both versions? Is there a hole in the blade blank of the one without holes in the handle?
@knifetimestory

Yes. They use the same blade blank for both versions.

Thinking of getting this knife for my oldest son (will be 10) to take hunting this year.

Sounds like a great night for a 10-year-old! Pretty much darn near indestructible. You may though… Want to watch my video on how to modify the sheath for easier insertion and extraction when the time comes.

Happy Birthday (on March 17th)! I'll prolly end up getting you what I got you last year.... 😬 ... but only this year it'll be used. Sorry. Inflation and weak Canadian dollar. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I too bought a Xancudo and I too dislike (read "hate") the orange handles! But I just love the knife, so I keep it around. And so when you said you might dye the handles, I was all ears. A great video idea. (Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.) I enjoyed the toot on the factory sheath. I particularly liked the part where you taught us how to "saw, saw, saw, saw" and "tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap." I plan on using that technique: "work, work, work, work, work, work" and "eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat". "Yell, yell, yell, yell, yell"... Etc. So thanks! Well done.

I love what you got me last year. I use it all the time. Especially when I was sound asleep! Your description of what I was saying towards the end of the video cracked me up! Don’t forget “brush, brush, brush, brush, brush, brush,“ and “floss, floss, floss, floss, floss, floss,“ I was an idiot. I didn’t actually film me modifying the sheath. Which was me just being impatient and not forward thinking. I really have not mastered the art of planning things out too well. The dying of the handle thing is going to be interesting. I’m thinking I just need to go full strength RIT unless anybody has a better suggestion. Thank you so much for watching. And for such a fantastic comment!

Birthdays are a great reason to buy a knife. Even more so when the numbers line up. :) I’ve had my eyes on a xancudo because I’ve been obsessed with stainless steels. (Maybe too much obsessed?) A quandary because I really like the Esee CR 2.5 for its size and handle. (I owned and sold an Izula because I didn’t like it.) I would love to hear your thoughts: s35vn vs 1095-and-a-little-oil. Thank you.
@knifetimestory
@knifetimestory Год назад
Thank you for your kind words. My opinion: If you are going to be ridiculously tough on a knife, then 1095 is the way to go. However, if you are going to treat the knife with a modicum of respect and use it for what it was designed for, that is cutting things, and want the edge to last a long time, then one of ESEE’s S35VN blades is the way to go! I believe I addressed it in this video as to the reason why you will never see a stainless IZULA II. that is because this knife fills that void and then some. Edge holding on this knife is amazing. I did convex the grind which helps, but also the fact that it is heat treated to the exact specifications, that crucible prescribed, helps. I hope that answers your question. If not, feel free to follow up!

Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. I would say I’m a gentle user and have always opted for stainless steels (154cm, s30v, etc) but I am intrigued by the apparent ease of sharpening of 1095 and I’m thinking that might be a reasonable trade off. (Keep the blade oiled and enjoy easy sharpening VS no worries about corrosion but difficult sharpening.) I never liked the aesthetics of the Izula (1 or 2). I do like the blade shape and handle of the xancudo. And I’m intrigued by how Esee designers managed to make a small slim blade (which I like) and a full handle (which I also like). I don’t have any experience with 1095. People say it rusts easily. I had 01 and no rust issues. I had D2 and it rusted. Maybe I should try a forced patina on 1095 like you did in one of your videos. Apologies. Rambling. Weighing the pros and cons of a “xancudo” vs “cr 2.5”.

XANCUDO has a more forgiving handle shape and a nice very utilitarian blade.

Sounds like a nice set up. That was who made my sheath. Guess it was an off day for them. I've already repurposed the sheath for another knife that needed one. Thanks for watching and participating in the discussion. I appreciate it.

I noticed you have both the xancudo and esee 3 3d. Wondering which has better ergos? Which do you prefer overall?
@knifetimestory
@knifetimestory Год назад
Excellent question. The 3 is less fatiguing for long periods of use. It is also more versatile as the blade is taller and if you needed to, can baton. If I could only own one of them, it would be the 3.

Most likely going to be my next Esee purchase . I have the S35vn 3 and standard 1095 3 but there’s just something about that xancudo that speaks to me . Unlike most people I like the orange color of the scales .

I've had a couple Spyderco knives with dyed handles and that seemed to work out. But something about this handle makes me think it won't end up well. If you are making green Micarta handles for this knife, I'd be more than happy to buy a set. Send me your contact info or website.
