Brass knuckles/metal rims make much more of a difference than diff covers, I also used HR +4mm wide axles that completely changed what mine could do

Thank you, I have a new video coming out comparing the two after I added more brass up front and tweaked a few other things. If you're interested, check back today or tomorrow and see how it changed this truck's performance!

If your modded truck isn’t too heavy you should try softer springs to allow for more articulation keeping you tires planted better, I recently made one of mine no spring so it sits crazy low I dig the trucks though
@AcrossTownRC
@AcrossTownRC 2 года назад
I went full droop as well! It's so much better this way for the crawling I do. Thanks for the comment!
@riceboxsupreme
@riceboxsupreme 2 года назад
If you had taken the springs out of the modded truck I guarantee it would not have rolled in almost all of those situations. I didn't check your mod list yet but if you have long travel suspension or even stock suspension then limiting straps are a great mod. One strap as close to the center of each axle as you can get it. You can have a bit of droop but not too much that it will unsettle the truck and you will maintain full articulation. You can use an elastic band to test the theory but I use a strip of rubber bicycle tube or the shell of an electrical wire cut into a strip. Both of these mods are free and quick and easy and by far the best mods I have done to my truck aside from the servo, tires, and wheels
@AcrossTownRC
@AcrossTownRC 2 года назад
I took your advice and took the springs out. It's wild how much difference that alone made! I'll make an update video on the new mods I've done to make it crawl better. Thanks for the advice!

Most of the lines you took were way worse for the modded vs the stock lines...do the modded truck first then chose the worst angle possible for the stock
@AcrossTownRC
@AcrossTownRC 2 года назад
I had to re-position the modded truck many times because it kept failing. All good though, I just made a mistake in the mods I had done. I've got a new video coming out today or tomorrow and I think you'll be pleased with the new results!

@@AcrossTownRC your video did not show that properly if you're testing stock vs modded show more similar lines paint lines to follow in need be...I definitely don't believe a stock scx24 can out preform a decently modded one....even just front wheel weights on the sxc24 should out preform stock
@AcrossTownRC
@AcrossTownRC 2 года назад
@@stevechamberlain570 right, but if you don’t mod it correctly and throw off the weight distribution and center of gravity (like I did here), then the modded truck is likely going to be worse than stock Check my video coming out this evening - you’ll see what I mean there!

remeber to degrease tyres. You can just wah them in dishsoap water and rinse, or use a degreaser made for rubber.

Thanks for posting this. Goes to show that stock c10 is just fine.Only mod needed if you wanted is better tires and a servo. Looks like it’s best to keep center of gravity low. No lift kit or taller tires.
@AcrossTownRC
@AcrossTownRC 2 года назад
Low CoG with grippy tires and a better servo is probably the best for making a capable rig without spending a ton of cash. Brass knuckles are the best way to add weight down low from my experience as well

Yea, the build has been really fun but it just highlights how good they are stock. I still think that my next build will be a scaler, and that will likely have a whole new learning curve with it haha

Seems like your weight is shifted up a little because of the lift. Mine is coming in the mail tomorrow and im immediately getting wider metal axles, beadlock rims and weights, metal suspension arms and flex blades. A lower, wider stance will always be more stable, and you don't need a load of clearance anyway. It's not like a mud bogger where clearance gets you over things. Rock crawling is really all about stance, grip, contact and flex, and of course a little clearance always helps, but that's really decided by your wheelbase and center of gravity. For trucks like the jeep gladiator, a bit of height for that longer wheelbase can help a ton. But with the c10/wrangler/deadbolt's 132mm wheelbase, its never really been a belly dragger anyway. With the wider axles and all metal chassis, mine should stay well planted on any surface at a nice angle too. Mix that up with the low center of gravity conversion for the electronics, a heavier servo and metal front bumper (maybe some vented tires?) And im hoping to get the ultimate durable hopped up super crawler with low, front shifted weight. Good luck on the build, you have a really nice platform so far! If you want some suggestions as your very next mods, get the brass wheel weight/spacers and metal front/rear axle assemblies to really plant that bottom down on the terrain. Amazon has craploads of mods for any model of scx24. You can really go crazy with the customization. Just watch a video or two of scx24 meetups and see which ones perform the best, then try to judge what mods they have (if not already stated). Usually it's just wider axles, heavier wheels and low and front biased weight.
@AcrossTownRC
@AcrossTownRC Год назад
Thank you! Seems you'll be able to jump right in with a solid build...I have this C-10 still, but I have a second comp rig with Deadbolt rear links and C-10 rears up front. It has an LCG chassis with an 8 degree skid plate, and it's definitely a bit of a belly dragger with the longer stance. I might throw wider hexes on it, but the course we run has narrow gates so I am paranoid lol I also picked up a trx4m. I should really make a video with both some time soon...

A lot of the time when your lacking grip it’s because you have too much wheel speed if you go as slowly as possible you’ll find that you’ll have more grip, even if it’s spinning the tires slowly turn left and right and you’ll most likely make it up

Just some casual suggestions on the modded build. Try the brass diff cover up front and put the stock hexes back on the rear. You really want front weight. Rear weight is going to hurt things. Between lightening the front with the bumper removal and chassis cut and adding weight in the rear, I think it explains the issue you saw in this video where it flipped twice the first time. The rear axle weighed too much, dropped too far down in the hole and took the truck with it. When the buried wheel got traction, and it’s rear weight was low and twisting, the only thing the rest could do is follow it. I saw a massive improvement when I added weight up front (brass knuckles, diff cover, hex’s, front battery). I do miss the “let’s all run the same vehicle and see who’s best” but I suppose that just means I need another to be stock.
@AcrossTownRC
@AcrossTownRC 2 года назад
Thank you! Honestly this whole thing has been just a big experiment for me. I have a 13g brass front diff cover going on this week with an aluminum steering link. I also did an esc/battery relocation to get that extra weight up front. I will definitely take the brass hex off the rear, that makes a lot of sense to me Our "special event" is happening on Tuesday and I should have those new mods installed by then! That video should (theoretically) show the truck performing much better than here Plus, we all have stock ones now to go up against each other. Looking forward to getting some crawling in with my friends haha

I have the same truck mine is lightly modded with an Emax servo, RC4Wd white spoke wagon wheel beadlocks with RC4WD tires. I did put high clearance links on it too. I’m happy with the way it crawls & don’t plan on doing anything else to it. BTW this was a very nice comparison between a stock C10 & a modded one.

Nice video comparison. Modded doesn't equate to performance gains all the time. Your weight biases seem off on the modded vehicle. That rear brass diff cover is more of a hindrance and your COG seems too high as well. Check to see if you are close to 60/40 weight distribution on the modded vehicle.
