I'm so excited for Elden Ring and for Elden Ring music! I've been trying to avoid seeing too much of it but I'm just too curious about the soundtrack. Gotta say, I knew the music would be good, it always is with SoulsBorne games, but the direction they took with some of the Elden Ring soundtrack was surprising!

I'm really excited to hear how far they'll stray from the traditional SOulsborne formula with the music. Speaking of Soulsborne, I just made a playlist with all my Soulsborne music videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kaMKeviMQD4.html

In an interview, Miyazaki, the lead developer of these games, said that this game contrasts greatly from the themes in Dark Souls, where an age is ending and the darkness of mankind will come to engulf the world. Where mankind and it's curse is the bane of what the Age of Fire is, the age of the gods who desperately try to cling to the light. Whilst Elden Ring is supposedly about the ambition of mankind. It's ability to rise to the challenge and take the glory of these gods who so look down upon them. A humanity long forsaken now come back to take their rightful place in the world. Which is the perfect vibe I get from the main menu theme, and I LOVE IT!

The mix shows what Fromsoft is going for perfectly. In all of their other games you are in a dead, dying world. You are against all odds and everyone you met will likely suffer a horrible end despite everything you try. In Elden Ring you are returning to suffering, warring world to regain your glory and fight something better. Who knows how it will all end and what mark you will make.
@cosmic2750
@cosmic2750 2 года назад
I can definitely say that Elden Ring has a more heroic vibe to it. Like, past Soulsborne games, all were like, depressing: Souls games, the age of Fire and in turn humans is ending, and there is nothing to stop it; Bloodborne, a very powerful eldritch infant is awake and we need to silence it to escape the dreadful Hunt... All pretty dark and depressing stories. While Elden Ring still follows the dark fantasy theme, it has a much more heroic and uplifting tone about it. Although, we've barely seen anything from the game tbh. I still remember how decietful the Bloodborne trailer was lol...we all thought that Bloodborne was like, just another Dark Souls game with the like, sort of power fantasy setting, and what we got was basically a Lovecraftian masterpiece. I'm very invested to see if Elden Ring follows the heroic vibe all the way through or if it changes midway through like in Bloodborne...

I honestly think knowing George RR Martin there is going to be some sort of lovecraftian medieval twist at the end or part way through, where Miyazaki seems as if he's taking what couldnt be finished in ds3, i.e. a part way world corruption and implementing it into Elden ring where we can clearly see the sky "burning" during the gameplay trailer at certain points.

dude, I would _love_ to see you compare and contrast the music from the original Demon's Souls to the Demon's Souls remake. it's a very divisive topic among fans that I find very interesting because the majority of people seem to have a strong preference for the original score, insisting that many of the redone tracks completely abandon the intended mood/tone of the original game. I think that both the original and the remake have their fair shares of strong tracks, I prefer some of the original over the remake and some of the remake over the original. hearing your musically educated thoughts on the matter would be extremely interesting. if you decide to give it a try, here are the tracks I would most highly recommend listening to both versions of for evaluation and comparison: 1. Maiden Astraea 2. Old King Allant 3. Vanguard 4. Fool's Idol 5. Adjudicator that's a lot of listening, but I cant request it hard enough. the demon's souls original vs remake debate is a pretty passionate one and I have a lot of feelings about it myself but no musical knowledge to back up my opinions or anyone else's, so it would be super satisfying to hear your take!

@RedRapptor 2 года назад
@@DS_DoggerX true, that is another controversial one and I agree that the 'laughing' choir in the original is sorely missed in the remake. however, imo, I think the remake redeems itself there because it created a unique track for the penetrator based on the same song that I actually really like and I think its great that the tower knight and the penetrator have their own distinct themes instead of sharing one. I dont actually know if them sharing a theme was what FromSoft _wanted_ in the original or if it was a compromise made for the sake of efficiency, but I always imagined it was the latter so I personally appreciated the penetrator getting his own twist on their shared theme.

@woahmama 2 года назад
One huge note towards From Software's past in the main track is the fact that the whole "tense" part is bascially the Demon's Souls main theme hidden within it. A lot of people miss it, it seems and because Elden Ring is so filled in it's gameplay with mechanics from all their games in one, it seems they wanted to put as much reference to their important work in the soundtrack as they could or theu wanted to mention Demons Souls this way because that game didn't have that many features that later didn't return beside the World tendency which possibly will not return here anyway. Also the Gwyn notes at the start are really fitting because DS3 ends with Gwyns music (if we count fighting Soul of Cinder the real end, because killing Gael is not triggering the actual ending) so the faded, incomplete but still similar note at the start symbolises the end of an era and start of something new and unique. Elden Ring seems as you say go for more heroic themes. It's propably a coencidence but if ER will truly go through with that more positive emotional impact, it's gonna be a perfect game for hard times that we are in now. A game that will instead of making us think about all the dark sides of life, this time it's gonna raise our spirits into a battle for glory!

@BlueAsterismSolstice 2 года назад
Something Fromsoft does well with their music is matching their music with characters and their environments and concepts. The music actually reflect more on the fight you're in for, what it means, and what the characters represent. They're very deliberate about their decisions. Gwyn's Theme in DS1 is done with only the white keys of a piano, and he represents the ways of Light aka "The Way of White". Some might say some decisions don't make sense as a boss music but it's more telling the foe's story and what must be done. Sometimes songs of foes in the games represent something sad like a better fate being death than what's ahead of you, sometimes they represent a line of heritage and history reaching it's final destination in it's new cause, sometimes it'll represent madness and loss of status, or even obsession and the object of. Gwyn's Way of White, the way of Light, was fading, fading with his sacrifice, and fading naturally and inevitably to the nature of the world, and potentially renewed for just a bit longer to his best wishes. A song I think you'd have a blast with if you hadn't already is Souls of Cinder from Dark Souls 3, alternatively Slave Knight Gael's theme.

@@danielantony1882 wasn't actually aware because only 2 items out of the entire game mentioned Lloyd in 1, but in 3 the rings explained he became better recognized for his actual nature of entity. Otherwise that's still part of the relevance in symbolism. And regardless they certainly weren't great worshippers at that point as they delved more at the ideas brought out by Gwyn's legacy of undead being unnatural and countless other lies he's made to keep the Dark under control and long term a benefit to the light. Even branding the Dark Sign upon humanity, so they may be used as kindle and better suppress their Dark nature, the thing he feared the most. That's the second interpretation of his song, not just the end of his legacy, but the reality of it that he would fight desperately to keep the illusion of to his end.

@@BlueAsterismSolstice Gwyn didn't really create the Undead Curse. Watch Hawkshaw's video on the Undead Curse and the way of white. Gwyn was long gone when the Undead Curse happened. Even Havel rebelled against the way of white when Lloyd took over. I'm guessing that's why he has an occult weapon.
@BlueAsterismSolstice
@BlueAsterismSolstice 2 года назад
@@danielantony1882 No not "created it". He utilized it. Undead curse is actually part of humanity's condition dating back to the Pygmies, who likewise could reach a further undead state, both bearers of the Dark Soul, one of 4 great souls born from the First Flame. Geyn feared the Dark and coming Age of Man, an Age of Dark. He took any measures imaginable to fight against it. A knight, Artorias was thus set forth to overcome where it lurked more densely, and as the Four King came in tune with the Dark and the Life Drain Touch and too powerful, they would go as far as drowning the entire city, which once was a haven for Hollows. To keep the Pygmies themselves away and secluded, he gave them the Ringed City, under the watchful distortions of his youngest daughter. The all-round history of the Light would in turn be a thing of deceit, illusion, distortion, and keeping the Dark at bay, but also of use as the Way of Light would continue to shrink for their divine race in contrast to the opposite side increasing. The actual curse of fate was actually the Dark Sign, which contained the Dark of man inside. As of DS2, the allure to Dark had grown and caught people more socially also spreading the Dark Sigils amongst them with the weaking fire afflicting the suppression of Dark as that was significant to the ring of the Dark Sign. And so they were drawn to likeness of nature and emotions that erupted in the Dark from the fall of Manus, to a place prominent in them and figures born of it as there wasn't yet again a haven for it like New Londo.

@@BlueAsterismSolstice Alright. Well, I'm not sure how the Pygmies are related to the Undead Curse and how a dead man can Utilize a curse that he didn't live to see but ok. Not like I can tell you to stop parroting Kaathe, who is a pathological liar. People really love to base the crutch of all their arguments on that unstable toothy worm who straight up lies and lures people into doing bad shit. I guess it doesn't matter since Gwyn being the villain is the ultimate theory and it can't be stopped no matter what. You do you, I guess. Not like anything I say matters.

Watching your analysis gave me a greater appreciation on storytelling solely through music. Once you go deep into the game you learn about the tragic state of Margit as he's an Omen who were disfigured children with horns on their heads which Omenhunters used to saw-off and create weapons out of them. But as Morgott was a child of a royalty he had to always hide his omen identity in the form of Margit and the actual Morgott never came outside of the castle. But all the tragedy was already told to us emotionally via the boss music

Addicted to these videos. Feels like you're giving us a musical mini education with each one. Love how you play along with the notes and chords - probably a trivial thing for a composer, but very much appreciated all the same! With Margit's theme in particular, you've touched perfectly on what he (and Elden Ring) represents; carrying with them a legacy, but also breaking into something new. For me, the "primitive" violin and the pedal note give the impression of maintaining some aspect of the past, or holding on to a sad and distant burden. The satisfying resolution finally reveals what's being upheld, and explodes into what he's truly capable of. Thanks so much for this content!

I like how they are writing another page on their story. They started with darks souls, then bloodborne, sekiro and now this Like you said, it sounds just a bit like souls series, like a reminder... like history that has been forgotten long ago, so ancient that its not even relevant now. This is a new complex world, builded from the ashes and tears from the past. I dont know if its connected with the past games... the comunity loves to make this conections betwen games, which is fun and many times, make sense... if this is the case, thats probably why the music is so different.

If you listened to Demon's Souls Main THeme, espcially the remake, you'll notice some similarity with the Elden Ring Main Theme, especially from 3:51 til 4:16. And adding the Lord of Cinder's piano felt me like a message. I'm not a musician at all, but it seems to me that this intro song is a message from FromSoftware to us players saying: We've been learning from the past now it's time to its essence and construct a new thing. THat's what it felt to me.

The notes at the beginning are actually the same as the ones from the Elden Beast fight. The rest of it is used again for Radagon. I think the idea is to insert the Greater Will's avatar then hide it immediately behind Marika and the Golden Order.

Love to see you recognized the theme in the first piano notes. I did ever since I first heard it in Elden Ring's trailer. Soul of Cinder's theme is actually evolved or based on Gwynn's theme in Dark Souls 1. These 2 notes evoke the entire DS series all the way to 1. Each time, more faded away, as if being torn apart by the unimaginable amount of eons taking place between each game. Literally between DS1 and 3 as they are the same universe. And well.. the nores being here kind of suggest that so is Elden Ring. It's brilliant.
