We need to lay 400m of water pipe beside the track so we made a start at least.

Your presentation style is so engaging and easy to follow that it feels like we're having a conversation rather than watching a lecture! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us in such an accessible way.

You need to let some air out of the back tyres. They are way too hard. 10 - 15 psi is enough for that soft ground. They will look flat (ish) but will have a lot bigger soil footprint.

Love your DIY Farm & DIY content, both the big projects and the minutiae of the daily chores. Have been following for a couple of years now from Auckland NZ. It was an unexpected treat to see Gloucester Docks at the end, my home town from 20 years ago. Seeing the familiar countryside that is Gloucestershire and following everything you and your family are doing, warms the cockles of my heart.

If you still have that dumper load it up and chain it to the tractor the 2 should pull it in fairly easy as long as you don’t let them spin the wheels 👍

The pipe-laying looks like a job for Craig and his BIG tractor.

Being pedantic the ground was to wet and the tool that had the pipe layer on, is actually a single leg subsoiler.A mole plough is different.Farm machinery by Culpin could be useful for you.I did note you had the diff lock on but at times you need to keep your foot on the pedal as it doesn’t always stay lock in.Did you have full draft control?

Time for a 3-point hitch adaptor for the digger….

Hi Tim, I see you struggling trying to move the old “electric pylons” (poles as I call them) I would suggest fixing a rope on to a sound anchor (solid tree/ fence post/ even a hitch in a car) then wrapping the other end around the pole a few times and pulling even by hand will often work. Or a looped rope and pull with the tractor.

Happy New Year to you all, no rest for the wicked as they say.

If you turn the steering wheel while your starting the tractor it helps. also there should be a peddle that locks both of the back wheels for better traction so that they turn togeather. although i think the tractor is not strong enough. Happy New year to you all.

I've pulled Meany of a pipe though ground. In my experience I must stress I Iive in the fens and the soil is child's play. Needs to be dryer a lot dryer and I run a subsoiler though 3 or 4 times in the same place first then pull the pipe though goes so much better in my experience We also used 200 hp 4 wheel drive fully weighted up. But 200hp is over kill I would think 80-120 with out 4 wheel drive not sure if it would work.

We managed a 100m stretch in dry ground with a 4wd 50hp so combination of too wet and too weak. 😂

We used to put our water pipe in that way but we used 100hp four wheel drive tractor, don't know what your soil is where you are in west Sussex we had clay and even our 100hp tractor stuggled at times your 135 didn't stand much of a chance the poor old girl,

We managed 100m last year with a 50hp but that was 4wd and heavier. Perhaps the sandy soil higher up was easier going. I’ve sorted it with our local contractor now so once it’s firmed up a bit I’ll get him over. 👍

How about bolting the pipe layer to the blade of the digger?? Tracks will have more grip surely

Happy new year. I’m sure you have it sorted now but if you are still needing to lay the pipe I had thought you could use the pick-up as a little extra towing force. That and the tyre pressure could do the trick.

Are you going to put gravel on the farm "road" between your hedge and your down-slope fence? It looks like you have some deep tire ruts and need something to keep from sinking into the soft ground.
@diyfarm
@diyfarm 8 месяцев назад
Just a bit to go in the ruts for now. Laying the track to stone needs another application and got enough to work through with house at the moment. 🙄

It looked to me that the plough was higher than the bottom of the pipe guide surely it should be lower as the pipe guide is trying to deepen your trench so the earth is building up behind the plough and blocking the trench ????
