As a Greek I celebrated like crazy our victory over USA.The US national team back then had huge potential hall of famers like Lebron,Wade,Melo,Paul etc...I mean it takes a lot to beat any team that USA is assembling.I really believe that the only team that could beat USA back then was us.Not Spain,not Argentina but us.The Greek team back then was full of talent.Sadly we lost to Spain but we never cared. That was like 2000s super star generation where player's were starting to get control vs old school do what I say I'm the coach mentality . Style in the nba was more 1 on 1 vs fiba running sets, so in a sense it was Utah vs Lakers Shaq Kobe Nick Van Exel. Physically FIBA is more old school NBA. To me if USA had pressed with its athlethes it could've won gold on athleticism on defense alone, but playing against team oriented guys a level below NBA overall with yrs of experience together playing half court it's going be in there favor. European ball as a team game is better than nba, NBA because of MJ and guys like that, play mostly iso with floor spread dominantly than running sets than involve most players. Teams that run sets with healthy balance of iso have been dominant teams over last few decades.
