The twist in scream wasn't who the killer was, but that there was two killers. This one just has the silliest killer. They should have made Freddie Prince be the killer, that would have been fun.

As a variant of Scream with even more hot women, kills etc. And I loved it. But that was then... Now watching it..well it's a really bad movie from start to finish. Ok ok here’s my two-cents(I will edit as I go so I can give you the chance to state your WHOLE What what’s that? Why is her there? Who is he? David Egan. Just before Ben Willis killed him. The movie does actually explain that, but I feel like you sort of went into it with the wrong idea from the get. Scream and I Know are only similar in that they are teen slashers. That’s where the similarities stop though… in every other aspect they’re completely different kinds of movies. Nuance. Scream IS a teen slasher but that’s the least identifiable criteria it has. “Are teens slashed?” “Yes” “Ok, check” it’s deeper than that. I Know, on the other hand is JUST a teen slasher that hits, and follows ALL of the built upon tropes that already existed from 30 or more years of horror movies before it… if you’re not a fan of that kind of horror that’s one thing, but it’s subjective, and from the first 7 minutes of this video an uneducated/not in correct framing or context comparison. I can vibe with somebody not liking slashing for slashing sake, or not liking the “Meta rule-breaking while still following at times” sort of movie that Scream(and it’s entire franchise) is… but it’s just plain incorrect to claim “their main star was in their kind of rival movie” when it’s just not true from a story standpoint… as a whole they’re different beasts entirely in my opinion BECAUSE of the Meta and the Rule Establishment simultaneous with Rule Breaking aspect of the Scream franchise. That’s not a trope, that’s unique to the franchise… and it’s blatantly absent from I Know… I Know is a revenge story; a payback story in 2 parts(and a cash grab second sequel that was a total departure from everything that made the first two films work.) Now I will watch on, and see what else you have to say…
@Cubs-Den-Reactions
@Cubs-Den-Reactions Год назад
Oof… I usually vibe with your reviews. This film isn’t for you, subjectively. I wouldn’t recommend this review as an accurate portrayal of the first movie after the first ten minutes of this video. But please Let me explain why…I want to be constructive… In my opinion (I’m 10 minutes in…) You’re doing the movie(I Know) a disservice because of your own biases. Scream exists in reality. It doesn’t exist in the universe of I Know What You Did Last Summer… so literally using them breaking the “rules” from Scream that “we learned a year earlier”… it doesn’t make sense… This movie is not the same kind of movie as Scream. They are at opposite ends, or at least on different wavelengths, from a whole product perspective. It’s hard to get to your final thoughts though because you’re comparing movies that aren’t comparable as whole products. On the sole basis of “Are teens slashed?” “Yep” “Copy that, teen slasher” Yeah, Scream is the better film… But considering both films as a whole and considering the details of the two stories and the differences in subject matter, framing, the nuances… (literally just with the first in each franchise even!) they’re not comparable. Ben Willis killed David Egan, because Susie drowned but David lived. Julie and Co. aren’t ALL awful and they *don’t* let Barry hang around anymore after that night… after the examples given to the audience of his behavior. Helen leaves him, Julie never speaks to him as a friend again, and all of them lose touch for the next year dealing with the impact of Barry’s suggestions to save Barry’s ass… I appreciate you’re trying to give a synopsis while also commenting… but again the “kinda rivals” framing is your downfall in my opinion from a deeper storyline focused whole product viewpoint. It may not be said outright but the characters’ actions and behaviors post Dock Toss prove they all fell apart because he talked them out of the right thing to do, which was call the police and report the accident… the truth is an absolute defense… and any evidence any legal person would have would be 100% circumstantial PRE Dock Toss… which is what Julie keeps trying to tell them… Barry convinces everyone to get rid of the body and won’t take no for an answer… they don’t all make a conscious decision, Barry wears the other three down, makes them murderers(as far as they know until all is revealed by the end) and they react and respond accordingly to the trauma of having to live with it… Compared to a movie that calls out horror stereotypes, while it immediately breaks them but not always, because we still have to be sucked in and enthralled by what history proves works; well done tension, and impeccable acting from the cast. You forget for a while that Sidney Prescott is just a character and Neve is in a movie… and in my opinion Sarah Jennifer Ryan and Freddie have exactly the same thing happen. Yeah at the beginning of the movie of course I’m thinking “Ok so, SMG,JLH, FPJ, and Ryan Philippe… cool, now… forget actors who are they *here*? Who are *these* people…” I stop thinking about actors and allow the story to take me. I allow the film to be and speak for itself… So yeah I feel bad but I have to wait for another time to try to finish the video. I wanted to just push through the clear bias and give you the benefit of the doubt but you’re not playing fair. You’re comparing incomparable films, and not accurately portraying one of them. They’re both massive cult classics, and personally that perception is a circle not a Venn diagram. I see them as unrelated, what does one have to do with the other from a whole product perspective…? So for those reasons at this point, I wouldn’t recommend someone watch THIS video as an accurate representation or breakdown of the first Summer movie… That said, you’re allowed your biases… still should try to fairly and accurately present the information in the film… as written and intended by the writer… the writer isn’t writing I Know while also thinking “Ok, so scream just released… I shouldn’t have these characters always follow the rules either…” Scream(or any other horror film, scene, etc etc etc) weren’t brought to the table as a guideline for something, besides the stereotypical(but well portrayed) tropes of the overall slasher genre not even just the teen sub genre… but those things are there in every movie, so the true focus is how well are those tropes dealt with and portrayed (my personal opinion expertly in both films) and how well dealt with and portrayed are the REST of the storytelling aspects handled(again expertly in my opinion, because they’re not comparable as whole products.) Just a suggested constructive criticism, and a perspective to consider… love your content normally but you’re not playing fair to this movie.

Dude - I know what you did last summer is good. I get that when this and scream came out, a lot of horror geeks were annoyed that horror became mainstream and so refused to like these movies. But these are way way way better than a lot of the 80s classics.
@1kylecurry
@1kylecurry Год назад
This movie is ok... I guess, pretty straight forward slasher with most of the troupe's, very much a product of the late 90s genre rebirth after "Scream" which in itself is good, but overrated. The "I know..." movies are almost a parody rather than a standalone flick. The same for the sequel. Both watchable for horror fans. I read the novel many years ago & it is quite good, not horror, but still interesting. Oh yes there is a 3rd movie...it's nonsense. RIP to Anne Heche.

The first one is average and never needed a sequel part 2 is awful however I think the concept of I know could make a great movie. The reason for the accident is because of the asshole Barry character getting drunk and causing them to crash by messing around in the car so everything is his fault lol. His character is super annoying and I was glad when he died the chase sequence with Buffy the Vampire Slayer chick was also well done what the movie needed was more surprises it would have been cooler and more surprising if 1 person from each of the 2 couples lived instead of the obvious ones. If they had let Sarah Geller live and killed Jennifer and ended the movie with her and Freddie Prince getting together as the surprising couple in the end and had them live it would have felt more surprising to me and less wrote. Also they needed to keep the Fisherman character an innocent and just have him related to the person who was hit instead of being the person and just makes it a revenge tale and ended the movie with the last two Freddie Prince and Geller confessing after surviving.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's this film that had the screenplay written way before Scream was released (they were both written by Kevin Williamson). So, while it might seem like a ripoff, the screenplay actually predated it.
@user-zh4vo1kw1z
@user-zh4vo1kw1z Год назад
From what I remember he got a lot of notes on the first version of the script. Which he took and then turned into Scream, kinda as a test to see of he could, which Craven liked enough to do a big overhaul on to make it Scream. When that suddenly took off, producers came a-knocking and he gave this a spit and shine. So it isn't a rip-off, but the beta version of something that had to be altered so much to be producable that it was a completely different movie in a different subgenre by the end. Dunno if that's better or worse than a rip-off...

Iaian is being a little too hard on the first movie. A movie not being "realistic" is a bad criticism. A movie should not be concerned with being realistic- it should be striving to be entertaining. This movie's ambition is being a fun first time watch. I think it executes on that goal pretty well.

Well, given that description of the book, it CERTAINLY would not have served the liberal socio-political purposes of furthering the concept of the "rich 'Yt' villain" that is indispensable to the narrative, with Trent from the Friday The 13th remake 12 years later showing that it isn't only with the piano in their trailers that the aberrations of Hollywood love to stick to one note.

I'm glad you guys didn't like this film series. They were awful. The characters were awful, the plot was stupid and everything else was just a drag. The sequel was even worse (SOMEHOW)! The only good thing about the sequel was seeing Jeffrey Combs & Jack Black. But even then, I felt so bad for them for being in this shit show. I usual hate horror remakes, and as I always say, remake something that needs improvement. And I Know What You Did Last Summer is the perfect example of a film that deserves a remake. There's still no word on it, but if it ever happens, I REALLY hope the remake learns from the mistakes from the original.
