I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is an autobiography by Maya Angelou, published in 1969.
The book recounts Angelou's childhood and early adolescence (age 3 to 16), focusing on themes of racism, trauma, and resilience.
The story begins with Maya and her brother being sent to live with their strong and wise grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas, after their parents separate.
Her story reminds us that even in the toughest times, the human spirit has the power to persevere and rise above challenges.
