I know I hate how slow horses are. Rdr2 makes you got at its own pace while RDR1 gives you more freedom of pace. They made horses slower because if the horses were still this fast then the game wouldn't be able to render the environment that good.

@@pleasedontdothis.9878 the reason why RDR2 makes you go at it own pace is because it's clear they tried to make the game as authentic as possible, horses running about at 100mph is not authentic, it has nothing to do with rendering. I love the horses in RDR2, probably the most authentic and believable animal I've seen in a game, apart from when they occasionally home into trees.

RedInterceptor i know this is a 12 month comment but its still worth mentioning One of the devs had an idea for a character who was a ruthless outlaw that used to be in the van der linde gang but then sacrificed himself to save john, trying to redeem himself that turned out to be our beloved arthur morgan and you can see in the 2016 trailer of rdr2, that arthur was talking to sadie (a cutscene in chapter 6) arthur wasn’t sick (he didn’t have the TB model) so no doubt the game had 2 delays making sure that arthur doesn’t survive because ross would’ve made john hunt down arthur (not to mention low honour arthur is canon which means he could’ve gone back for the money and not go with john) so arthur may kill john because if low honour rich and smug arthur meets up with high honour broke and desperate john...well you know what will happen

During the third encounter with the Strange Man he says, "This is a fine spot." This location later serves as John, Uncle and Abigail's gravesites. Near the end of the encounter John fires 3 bullets at him but before he could fire a 4th his gun jams; it is possible the 3 bullets symbolizes John, Uncle and Abigail dying in "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed" and the 4th jamming is Jack being spared.

Lol, not in my experience. One time I was about to start he mission but I smashed in to him with my horse and he flew off the cliff screaming. It was hilarious, and luckily he respawned a couple minutes later so I could do the mission.

Again why does everyone assume the Strange Man is referring to Arthur and the past gang members. It's twice mentioned in the epiluoge that John doesn't talk about Arthur much as it's a painful subject but he does think about him. Instead the SM mentions Heidi McCort. Who was she exactly in the Red Dead universe? She may have been someone important. Or all the gangs enemies. The Gray and Braithwaite families, Angelo Bronte, Leviticus Cornwall, Agent Milton, even Colm O'Driscoll to an extent. All were important people to the story and world of RDR2

Accounting for his sins before Johns death to decide where to send him. -"God brought you here, to help me." -"I'll let the proper authorities judge my morality friend" "Yes you will, and they shall." -"This is a fine spot isn't it?" "Sure." (Getting approval for John's burial site) -"You will be responsible. (for his actions) -"Cya around cowboy" (That's the last time you see him before Johns death) - "Damn you!" "Many have" - In the last scene John tries to shoot the him 4 times. 3 shots do no damage, and the fourth bullet jams. John dies, Abigail dies, and Uncle dies. Jack is spared.

John didn’t forget Arthur, in the epilogue he said that it was very hard for him to remember him and he thought about him most days but it pained him too much to talk about it which is probably why he never mentions him.

Yes and he probably don't exactly like remembering the fact that Arthur basically died right after he left him alone on that mountain to run for his life to his family (even tho Arthur did told him to) in the Save John ending and it made John felt some guilt which is one of the reason he don't like to talk about Arthur. Or in the go back for the money ending, It would make sense that John don't wanna talk about Arthur again because it's too damn sad for him to think a person he thinks of as a brother died basically abandoning him for wealth like that. Which made John rather not talk about it. Btw sorry for bad English, I'm not a native speaker haha

Fun fact: In Arthur's journal, in the pages prior to Blackwater's Heist, Arthur will mention seeing a guy that looked very similar to Trelawny roaming around the place that they were gonna hit. So it makes me think the strange man is actually death, showing up in a place before collecting the souls of those who will die.

I hear a lot of people say that the "important people" john has forgotten are Arthur and the rest of the gang. This is certainly not the case, John doesn't talk about Arthur for obvious prequel related reasons. But it goes deeper than that, every action John takes is influenced by Arthur. John even behaves and has some of the same mannerisms and ideals that Arthur had. I think the people the strange man is referring to are all the people who John has killed and all of the people who were negatively effected by the gang. People like Hattie McCourt. This side quest has less to do with John's apparent memory loss and more about discussing weather or not John can achieve redemption for what he has done.

Could be Heidi. And after playing RDR2 he could be referencing any number of the people the gang dealt with. The Gray and Braithwaite families both very large rich and powerful families feuding in the state of the Lemoyne. Angelo Bronte who basically ran St. Denis. Maybe the Mayor Henri LeMeuix if you decide to save his missions as John. Leviticus Cornwall his name was plastered everywhere across the various states. Agent Milton even. All were important people to the world of Red Dead

If you think about it, the red dead universe isn’t just some generic Wild West story driven game about outlaws fighting and running from the law. If you do more exploring and searching, you can find ghosts (mainly at lemoyne), secrets like the strange man, mutilated bodies and mutant animal, murder mystery, secrets about that abandoned town in lemoyne (it was abandoned or shot up because of religious matters I think) and so much more. This game is basically also a horror game and mystery game if you do these exploring.

moreo than that, RDR 1 was specifically written to subvert most tropes common to westerns, like John isnt some stoic enigma of a character, the real 'duel' you have with Bill ends with John shot, tough female characters like Bonnie exist, and the western era as we know it was coming to a fast end in 1911, meaning that the modernization of Blackwater could visually and thematically play alongside the story. by the time you get to blackwater, you understand that John is a product of a world that no longer exists.

In red dead 2 there is a picture of him in the armadillo general store. While in the store, John asks Herbert Moon (the shopkeeper from rdr1) where he got the portrait. He replies, something like I just found it somewhere and liked it. John then talks about how there is something familiar about it to him. Very odd stuff

There is a weird shack in the swamps near Lacay that people speculate belong to the strange man. It has a lot of things written on walls, one of them tells how Jimmy Brooks isn’t as “dumb as he looks” and another wall has “I KNOW YOU” (the name of the sidequest in this video) written on it

6:27 I find it interesting that the stranger sends John to Sister Calderon. If you’ve played her missions in RDR 2, than she has quite an interesting impact on Arthur’s life. These two people, Sister Calderon, and John Marston, are meeting for the first time, and yet they are both unaware that they shared a close friend in Arthur.

I still can't get over how well written this game was for a sandbox game. Personally I'd say it's one of the best Rockstar open world games. It has the same gameplay, actual side content, a setting that isn't used often, and a well written story. I may as well say it's probably my favourite open world cause even the multiplayer was the shit. It's basically GTA4's multiplayer done better. Definately was game of the year for me.

It's not the same guy, Trelawny is a con man on the run from the law, the strange man is God or the Devil, knows everything about John's past, future, knows his fate, knows where he'll be buried, and is also freakin' bullet proof. This is why I love Rockstar. Most games would just eventually come out and say, “Oh, this character is an Alien” or some stupid cliche like that but Rockstar has always been amazing at leaving the story to the players to find. Look at Pleasance, the Mt. Chiliad UFO, Gavin, and the best of them all, Strange Man. Something about Strange Man is just different. He is a mystery and he is never really explained. They don’t even try to make sense of it by the end once he is literally shot three times and shown to be unaffected. Then in Red Dead Redemption 2 they add his shack which makes his place in the world seem even more eerie. Something about him just makes me feel uneasy. Specifically these lines: John: I will not be responsible for my actions. SM: Oh, but you will. SM: I’m accounting. I’m an accountant. John: Is that so? SM: More or less. SM: Why would you remember me. You’ve forgotten far more important people. SM: See you around...

I think the strange man simply represents John’s soul. His hard to identify nature hints that the duality of the players actions. He knows things about John’s past that John can’t remember because John suppressed a lot of his past and when he says “I hope my boy turns out just like you” he could be referring to Jack who in fact, does turn out exactly like John.

I've been obsessed with this scene since the day I saw it! (which was three months after the games release) and the question it left me with because of my inability to distinguish one from the other at the moment. That question being... "Was that the devil?; or was it God?" - side note - look up Mark Twain's "The Mysterious Stranger" you'll find crazy similarities. Fyi if you look it up on RU-vid you'll find something creepy.

***** That's true we don't, but that would just be a little silly on Rockstar's part to make this guy be Krishna or Muhammad or something. The most likely explanation to me is that it's Satan. The antichrist would be Satan's son and surely he would want him to be like John since he's a ruthless killer. Also when you kill the strange man and look in his pockets he has six dollars and six bullets. Adding another six of something would have been too obvious but since you know everything in a game is consciously put there by the programmers, it's pretty hard to ignore. I also saw someone else point out that a lot of old time depictions of the devil have him wearing a top hat and a fancy suit with a mustache. This is true as far as I've seen. The only thing that makes me think twice about him being the devil is when he says that many people have damned him. You don't really hear people damning the devil unless he's referring to people generally rejecting him because he's the devil. That line definitely makes it sound like it's supposed to be God. Anyway Rockstar probably made it this way on purpose so nobody would ever know for sure who it's supposed to be.

I like John's response to hearing about the girl Dutch shot. I think when the stranger told him that he thought the guy was trying to rattle him, so he purposefully was flippant with his response about not remembering her. Stranger just takes it in stride.

Probably cause they(including me)felt he was more than just a video game character. A dying man dealing with both good and bad sides of himself and who he chooses to be at the end. Now, I do know Arthur wasn't even thought up by the devs back when development of rdr 1 started but man it would really be something if a little mention about him was done in the 1st part.
