5:58 I can tell you with 95% certainty it's neurological. While he is a very sweet and cute boy, I have to say I've worked with enough Persians with severely overbred features to be able to tell you that they often do not behave like normal cats and are literally mentally handicapped. The form of their nose bridge creates a dent in their skull which often prevents the brain from fully developing. This means stuff like forgetting how to eat properly, how to play properly, sleep behavior issues and - like here - head tilts or running in circles. They are also obviously very prone to eye infections or scratched cornea and often confused on how to interact with other cats. There's a lot of people who say they're no different to a normal cat... but trust me, you notice if you decide to look. This is not a jab at the owner! I don't know under what circumstances they got Ralph, maybe he's a rescue, maybe they're great owners who ethically adopt and care for Persians! They obviosly take great care of him!

I used to raise and show Himalayan and Persian cats. They are a lot of work but wonderful pets. I quit raising them when the show standards became so ridiculous that they were breeding to create a cat with basically no nose. Their nonsense created terrible health problems for the cats. I used to tell people who wanted to buy one of my kittens as a pet that they would need to comb the baby from the first day that they took it home even though they do not appear to need it. Kittens that are going to grow up to have a long thick coat need to be trained to accept daily grooming from the time that they are tiny kittens. If you wait to start grooming after the coat is grown in you are going to have problems. The cat will never t accept it. The painful mats that accumulate because of poor grooming practices are extremely difficult to get out and you don’t need to compound the problem with a panicked cat. I always gave the new owner a couple of grooming tools….a metal comb and a pin brush…. to get started.

I told the groomer at the vet that my kitty, Alex was a good boy at home. 45 minutes later I got an urgent call from the groomer, could they put Alex out? He was on top of a cabinet in the med room and couldn’t get him out….owners don’t really know. 😻
