I Learned a NEW Liquid Dam Trick! (aka Kool Dam, Opal Dam) 

Great tip Ash! Yes, since all resin materials like this are hydrophobic it’s important that all moisture is removed and the cervical area desiccated in order to get the best seal. That’s a critical point and should be followed religiously. In fact, when I begin to dry the tooth after my access preparation, it’s an automatic cue to my assistant that I need the secondary isolation material, which she hands over automatically without me asking for it. For products like Opaldam, dry well. I also like to try to engage some undercuts somewhere with it. That can be an interproximal embrasure or you can use the opaldam tip to push the rubber dam down next to the RD clamp so that a bit of the opaldam flows under the clamp as you are applying it. This locks it in really well so it won’t dislodge.

Always dry it before placing. If there’s too much moisture, the primary seal isn’t good. So the clamp may need to be adjusted. You can also use Cavit as secondary seal if the primary seal isn’t good. Saw this trick on someone else’s video.

quick tip: I have been using the wash component of PVS impression material and drying it. Downside is it take 120 seconds to set, but it works.

It is resin based so of course we need to dry 😂 just consider it as flowable composite ! Would you place flowable composite on wet enamel?

I used oroseal longtime ago.but it was expensive and i had the risk of taking oraseal with the tips and put in the canal.So i used à liquid dam LC for many years now

Can even had a dab of bond to really bond it to the tooth more. Been following you since 12 years ago when I was first in dental school!

Hi, I love and learn a lot from your videos. I have a question not related to the objective of this video, though. In the second 40, there is a 3,7 molar with a fracture line MOD, apparently. What's your experience with this kind of case? When do you proceed with endo, and when do you decide they are beyond a good prognosis and take them out? Thanks a lot!!!

Could you share with us what rubber dam you’re using ?

Of course you dry it. If you really want it to stick well, dry it and give the entire area a quick wipe with isopropyl alcohol then air it dry again and apply it.

Dry the tooth/teeth......apply ethanol, dry again and say goodbye to saliva and blood ingress on your operating field. Unless you screwed up your isolation in the first place 😂
