Awesome presentation at the Schwäbisch Hall College … 🎉and super big CONGRATULATIONS on your personal life milestone getting engaged to your fiancé Laura!!! … continued success Nick!!!🎉
Stumbled upon NALF during Covid. Got interested in his cultural view on Germany and Germans. I'll watch anything from NALF as soon as it pops up, no care at all about thumbnails and consistency 😅. No idea about football but would definitely watch longer than 30 secs. But I am from another millennium 😂. So so happy about your engagement to Laura. Congrats and all the best.
Loved this video. I’m so happy for you that all your hard work and tenacity brings you success as in being recognised and being able to pursue what you live. I have watched your videos and really liked most of them. They are well researched, interesting and thought provoking. Congratulations on your engagement with Laura. She is the most delightful young woman. You seem so well suited in your outlook on life and both seem so grounded. All the happiness in the world to you two 😊
You should model for some fashion labels. Like many Germans, mostly the older ones, you always stick to habit of wearing white sox, even in sandals. You may have influenced a new ... or old - trend, as wearing white sox is back in trend in 2024. 🙂
I'm sure the young people in the class loved your presentation. It's probably right up their alley. at least for some of them. Congrats again to you and Laura on your engagement.
Loved the presentation and to have finally met u in person 😊 For ur US based viewers, yes those lecture rooms are that small for a normal class. It's not a big university but a Hochschule - with same bachelor or master degrees to achieve.
Actually, it means "less departments", "less courses", more specialized in some subjects, not necessarily smaller classes. University stands for "universal", offering Math, Law and medicine on the same campus.
@@holger_p less courses? ECTS to earn are the same but they are offering depending on the size of university you compare it to less. Generally, lower amount of students means lower amount of courses in that meaning like you meant it, I would imagine?
What do the following time stamps have in common? :47 - :49 - 1:06 & 1:11 - 1:16 - 7:12 Signs that restless leg syndrome is progressing to restless foot syndrome.
From the excerpts of the speech, it sounds very self-reflected and sophisticated. Like "Passion over gear". Beside "continue or cancel" the video - there is also a skip or fast forward button.....
Nick, I've been consuming your content along with several other English speakers in Germany ever since I learned my daughter would be serving at an Air Force Base (not far from you). You've been funny, informative, and helpful; thank you! This is the first time I've noticed people in military uniform in any of your videos. When you are first starting filming in the stadium in Nürnberg, 2 men in camouflage uniforms (without covers/hats on, a no-no for the US military) cross briefly from left to right behind you (starting at 6:20). After freezing the frame I see they have German flag insignias on their right shoulder. You mention the large numbers of Americans in Germany, and it's estimated over 50,000 are American soldiers in 2024. Do you ever see American service men and women in your day-to-day, or as part of any USO effort to entertain the troops overseas at American football events where teams in the German leagues are playing? Side note: I've been studying German and love some of your videos in collaboration with "Easy German" and "Feli from Germany", to give me more sources to learn about the culture and language. I'm hoping soon to move to Germany, and work a remote writing job I'm currently in a trial period with, to be a bigger part of my daughter's life while she still wants me to be, and all your videos about overcoming doubts and taking a big leap have been helping to motivate me. Please keep up the good work, and I hope you continue to have success both professionally and personally. Congratulations to you and Laura on your engagement!
so Nick, since you mentioned the EURO, what do you think about the term "public viewing"? since a viewing in english means something entirely different. i find it hilarious
This seems to be your thing: Public/motivational speaking and/or teaching, and others seem to have picked up on it too (as some of the comments indicate). I know it is probably a bit difficult to get properly certified to do it offically in Germany so perhaps online or perhaps there is a way to get certified as an English language teacher/instructor (which has value in itself as it is real life interaction and learning experience in a foreign language as opposed to the boring ways languages are usually taught). Other than that I see more and more depth in how you describe your cross-cultural experience, and I think the secret sauce in getting you to 300k (and more) subscribers may actually be showing more vunerability. It is probably very counterintuitive for someone whose culture constantly stresses striving for perfection. The truth though is perfection does not exist, we are all human and not being perfect makes no one a looser automatically. You are clearly struggling with the German language a bit so why not mke content about that for example? Other than that you mentioned being a big comedy fan and listening to Ameican comedy podcasts therfore: 1) how about some content about that, your favourites, the various styles of standup, the history perhaps, 2) you must have noticed as well that the trick behind the popularity of some of the younger comedians like Mark Normand or Chris di Stefano is precisely showing vulneralility, 3) I would love to hear your take on Jordan Prince and/or see your (and Laura's) reaction videos. I'd also consider more content in a form of quick and dirty day trips by public transit to other cities (not only in Germany) where you 'd try to discuss whatever interests you: public transport, city planning, architecture or services, the arts (music scene, etc.), sporting venues and clubs, etc. Most travel vloggers just do popular sites and the food scene and it gets boring. A source of inspiration for more content ideas may also be Type Ashton for example. As for vulnerabilty: how about content where ou teach yourself various things and show all of your challanges and little failures, and then getting to the final destination. This type of content seems to do well on the net. The examples maight be: DYI, German, cooking, craft beer making, new sports and testing sports equipment, perhaps even learing aquarel painting and trying to paint all the beauty of Schwaebische Hall that you appreciate so much (Alex Hillkurtz as a pro and an example but also someone who can teach some skills). In various European cities you can also see a lot of comedy in English live, you just have to look. They are clearly usually bigger cities like Paris, Brussels but in Munich certainly as well or Cologne, etc. Luxembourg even. Go to Dublin too. Sometimes the flights are dirt cheap. There you have Vicar Street and many awesome comedians, a great bar and music scene (outside of tourist infested Temple Bar), musicals at Bord Gais, Irish panto at the Gaiety and much more.
Herr Professor, eine gute job. Your training in film production has led to interesting and fun videos of reasonable length. You when to begin and when to end. Europeans and Germans haven't always done presentations succinctly and effectively (at least as an American observer). They have improved thanks to adapting American techniques and mindsets. You can help a lot over there.
Why would you want Europeans and Germans to adopt American techniques? Just to suit your tastes? As a European (Franco-Scot) and naturalised German, I find American videos often far too loud, with far too much intrusive background music (as in this one) and far too much skipping about.
@@alicemilne1444 Yes, American videos and advertising are often annoying and often don't communicate. There is a way to communicate quickly and effectively, and it is fun and interesting. Care must be taken to do it right, and Nick knows how. My comments go back to communications that I encountered as far back as 60 years ago when I got lost in boredom from endless repetition in a single presentation. Yes, there were a few clever ones, but they were rare.
An intelligent, funny American who escaped and came to the real world...We should have you stuffed!(Lame Fawlty Towers joke..)Love your content man...✌🙏😉
that is one of the biggest tips for a decent powerpoint presentation! don't put too much stuff on each slide. a minute is a good guide. if you have more info, you need more time, or you need to cut cut cut. people need to listen to your voice, not squint to read the slide. They can do that afterwards.
I wonder how this incredibly inappropriate and disturbing music got into this video? Or is it only audible to me...? I could hardly understand what was said.
2:49 I might call you "Der Herr Professor" from now on, but the fact that you still need both thumbs to open a Bügelverschlußflasche will always keep me from really respecting you. Very sad, indeed.
This casual viewer somehow missed that you retired from football two years ago now. I guess you stayed in country, clearly. Now I'm curious about how the visa thing worked out.
As an EU citizen he does not need a visa. Some time ago he got himself an Italian passport. He was also member of the Italian national American football team.
A video from Nalf about making successful videos - I appreciated the thumbnail comparisons and hope you went on to say how stupid it is to dramatize the thumbnail with an exaggerated facial expression. I don't watch those anymore; if someone's face looks distorted by shock at whatever shocked them into making a video. I hope you can lead people into a realistic, not cartoon, facial expression. Also, Aldi has been selling footballs lately For 7E. Every time, I pick one up, align my fingers on the threads (? ) and then hope someone is within throwing distance who seems interested. So far this had not happened. Is no one gonna toss the ball back and forth with me? Actually at Intersport my husband was there an had never touched a football and I didn't give him a choice. We tossed it around until finally an employee stopped us by asking us what we might like to buy. *lol* I have no connection to football. It's just that it's a part of my childhood. It felt like home.
Well Nick, your videos are constantly improving and I think maybe it's time to move on. Perhaps you should consider the fact to produce a Short film with real actors. Have you ever thought about writing a script?
Since he's not imposing to speak German, it's good enough. And if he would try to pronounce Addidas and BMW the "right" way, he wouldn't even be understood by native speakers.
@@holger_p “Hochschule” is a German word - if you say it you are intending to speak German. The root word “Schule” is something you learn on the first day of German class - Nick attended the Goethe Institut.
4:19 Not a cappuccino. A pseudo-cappuccino, perhaps. A cappuccino is not simply a coffee/milk mixture. A real cappuccino is served in a real porcelain cup, not a paper cup with a lid. You can, but you wouldn't drink Prosecco in a beer glass either.
