There is a new method of building using mad/soil its called rammed earth construction its more friendly and lasts longer than these concrete construction houses,
Lucky Americans they can just move to Africa and live comfortably and accepted by community in Africa. However its different case for Africans we cant do that
As kenyan who works in dubai i totally understand her . Yes, i make a decent living but i barely have time to live. This right here is the end goal built a nice ranch house away from the city and chill out.
We usually redo the wall surface regularly and even mix waterproof cement with the soil to reduce surface erosion and increase the compactness. The use of solar and WiFi in that manyatta is awesome.
Hey Thiong'o, it was really nice to meet you and learn so much from you. I'm following your journey and I am looking forward to sharing your knowledge on permaculture in an upcoming video
My grandmothers house in the village in Nigeria was made out of mud! People asking why the roofs were built lower, I think it just never occurred to our people make the roof higher . I don't think there was any reason. I like how she has applied some western building standards to upgrade a traditional building method . My grandmother eventually coated the outside of her house with cement to prevent damage from the rains !
You mentioned the roofs are traditionally lower, maybe it helps to keep the room cooler? I was thinking there must be a logical explanation for the lower roofs. When people have little to no resources, they must get creative and innovative. Great video!
You are right, people always have valid reasons for the way they do things. As new comers, we eventually find out why, when our new ways eventually fail. Thanks for your perspective and for watching 🌼
Could it be because manyattas were traditionally built by women? Women are shorter and may find it harder to go up to build high roofs.🤷just a thought, I could be wrong
Hi Caitlin, i just found this by accident and it's great to see you and your house! Greetings to you, Brian, Selena and Zuri. See you soon, Karen P.s. That plant, the green stick-like tree is the Ololei😁
I love it ! I wouldn't take space for myself in Africa . I would rather see my African brothers and sisters thrive on their own land . Although , my family is West African I am also European and Asian . I live in America and have my family here . Were situated here, but I would love to visit .
There is so much abudance of space and resources in Africa that we are happy to share with nice people like you if you like. Don't believe the media lies that people are poor here... people are very wealthy and are happy to share
Am so happy for u girl I love your place when I watched your video I said to myself that's the life I would want to have I love the plants around your house u have done a good job with your place 👍
Thanks for your video. Very interesting. I would still need a sort of bathroom with a sink even if I have to use bucket water. Not to keen on sharing bathrooms. That is one of my necessities. That would be important. Even if I had to share the toilet area and kitchen, I could handle that. It is good to have outsiders share their opinions, that is how we grow. My biggest problem in the tropics is the lizards. I am terrified of them and they seem to be everywhere..
Thank you 🥰. And thanks for the feedback. Since in the upcoming episodes I still have one mic, I'll add subtitles for the parts that are inaudible. Glad you are enjoying the vids
@@asilingamani Much respect Dada, keep it up. The subtitles is a very good fix. Beautiful experiences. I will check out more areas like these when I return to Baby-Colonial Kenya. I intend to return to blogging again very soon, and your vids have further inspired me.
I associate Vienna with classical music coz of the movie SOUND OF MUSIC am glad the first thing I heard when I have watched this video is classical music 🥰
I love the video,I simple and cool livelyhood amazing, about the mud house outside getting damaged by rain, use chicken wire and cement plaster walls outside, passion fruits plant more wire them. Buy clay pots and store boiled water for cold drinking water. I am happy for choosing simplicity life over city life. Blessed and respect 🙏👍
I am very impressed with your space. I would like to know have you considered getting your own little composting toilet and having your own toilet area behind a screen or curtain and small hand washing machine to make your job a little easier?
I believe that she’s a guest living here so she can’t just build whatever she want & the lady that runs the place says that she has the blueprint of how she would like the place to look. As for the laundry machine it uses a lot of power considering they use solar energy ( it’s quite common for people to use their hands for laundry so she pretty much got used to it )
Being from Sudan & lived my whole life in mud houses, i think the roof are kind of low as a matter of cost effectiveness. The taller you go the more expensive it would be, just my guess... As for the outside also we used mud & animal dry dunk, mix it & blaster the whole house from outside. In dryer areas it might last up to 7-8 years.. Very beautiful & peaceful
That’s kind of sometimes we used to fence ever green like type kayamba most of the time our parents used to fence our houses. Yes we use to do also us glue it sticks
Hi Pietro, no one should get anyone to do anything. It's a free country and Maasai people are independent to do whatever they want. Insinuating that a people's way of life is indecent demonstrates ignorance and arrogance.
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉good video 👍✅ sending you love 💕 and prayers from Kampala city, Uganda, Africa 🌍 i like the creativity, solar usage , water collection, i wanted to see the kitchen. Its simple .
Hi Delana, the mailing system that you may be referring to is an alien/western concept here in Africa. There are a few westernized neighbourhoods especially in Nairobi suburbs where getting mail sent to your doorstep is a posible. Otherwise the rest of us go to the post office that is usually located at the trading center or city center, to check out post box. But it is very rare that anyone is sending mail in Africa like you do in US or Europe
This vid lets me miss home. I use to wash rinse and pin my clothes on the line back in jamaica not everyone has washing machine. But it was fun especially washing white clothes
Yes, you knew exactly where or whether there was a spot or stain and accordingly, each piece of clothing got individual, undivided attention. Not just impersonally swished around with all the other pieces in a washing machine. To this day, I can never wash/put my underpants in the washing machine. I must separately, lovingly tend my gentler pieces of clothing.
I've lived in both 1st ,2nd and 3 world, but always in the cuties and in my forties now want to have an in between ,aome hour away from the city life but cosy enough and chill life .deciding between kilifi not too far from the beach and somewhere upcountry where I can see hills and also plant my food and only buy the necessities.
It is Red oxide paint for floor. It is a hard-wearing red-oxide coloured gloss finish specially designed for interior use on floors constructed of concrete, stone, brick. Thanks for watching
Looks lovely... Always wanted to move to Africa in particular moreso to Kenya coz I've seen so much of stuff.. wondering how it is feasible to get a peice of land and be there.. Africa I felt my motherland though I travel labelled ' Indian '
@@asilingamani I love to be in the motherland .. we've always been told that we are mixture of Iberian Ethiopian living in India..but as it went I've known from my maternal and paternal grand parent that they were much likely to be of African descent ..I have some innate inherent love affection for.the land Africa .
Hey Team Toon l can connect to aprime land l are or 2 according to your need next to Nairobi national park with Amenites like water and electricity available. The original documents available and all translations are over board done before a government approved attorney.
Penso que a moça americana deveria adotar a vida do povo da aldeia. Essas alterações no padrão construtivo acaba por descaracterizar uma tecnoligia utilizada com sucesso a séculos. Devemos respeitar a cultura de um povo. E muito importante!
@@mwendapoleee Saves water, saves energy, saves the planet, good for body and muscle toning, can help relieve mental stress, slow living, cleans clothes better, good for delicate fabrics, etc. watch out for an upcoming video where I share the benefits.
@@mwendapoleee me too🤭. The benefits of handwashing don't make it easier. Many times the easier, the faster and more effective a method the more detrimental it is to our wellbeing and our planet.
