Nana Ashanti the next time you do not feel well check out the bank hospital in Cantoments. When I was in Ghana I was there and it is really good. It reminds me of St Joseph hospital in Chicago. I loved it and it’s the only hospital I will go in Ghana. Try and find a primary care physician at Luca health because they have good doctors in there for your yearly physical. For the typhoid it might be a good idea to have a company drill a bore hole in your home for you and get the filtration system to pump the water into your poly tank so you get clean spring water if you do not have those already. A weekly anti malarial pill taken consistently will help with you not getting the Malaria that often. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Never heard of a weekly malaria pill. Which drug?

@brownbabygirl The daily is malarone. Also called atovaquone. Not sure about the weekly.

@@audreys9770 thank you. I found out the weekly is chloroquine

@@brownbabygirl so the medication is called Paludrine tablets. It is an anti malaria medication that I was taking once weekly before I even traveled and came to America. It was very helpful in preventing malaria. Malarone was prescribed for me when I came to Ghana for a visit to be taken to prevent malaria. Not sure is Malarone is readily available in Ghana. So I hope I have answered your question. Ask your primary care physician about the Paludrine so that it can be prescribed if interested and after discussion with your doctor. The problems many people complain about in Ghana has simply solutions and with good information and willingness to research and asking questions I am sure we will get ahead. Have a wonderful week.

Years ago, I had tonsillitis and a non-Dr medical professional was insisting it was malaria and wanted me to get malaria tablets. He wasn’t even a doctor KMT. I was a teen at the time but had been having recurring tonsillitis so knew what it was as soon as the symptoms would emerge. I had to really advocate for myself to be heard and to see a Dr because I needed penicillin and NOT malaria tablets, thankfully the Dr confirmed it was tonsillitis and treated me accordingly. It’s frustrating that malaria is always the go-to diagnosis. I understand the concern but there are other illnesses!

They do like to do this. I guess because cases are overwhelming and it mimics a lot of symptoms of other diseases, this is their go to. I definitely have had to advocate gor myself too. A frustrating experience.

This is heartbreaking to hear yet not surprised. Typhoid almost killed my mother last year. We had to fly her out to the states 😭. God has blessed us to be able to do that but I always think about those who cannot afford to do this. May God protect them. Thank you for always being Transparent about such issues. Glad to see you feeling better. Happy Returns to Ghana 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

The best hospital is International Maritime Hospital. I swear by that hospital. I've been lucky I never had malaria.

The healthcare is indeed not up to par, Accra is also filled with mosquitoes. All hands should be in deck to build that country cos the places we all run back to once upon a time were like Ghana. Good to see you are doing well.

Speedy recovery and safe travels! I'm currently visiting Ghana from the U.S. I came for two literary festivals. Ive been dreading the Malarone anti-malaria tablets my US doctor gave me They make me a bit nauseous. But hearing your experience, i realize its worth it. Best.

Sorry to hear about the health challenges you are having. But happy to hear you’re well. Not sure if it will help, but have you tried probiotics? They helped me a lot for my last extended stay. I used Vital Planet brand. A doc randomly suggested it to me years ago.

Ghana, like most countries across the developing world, has bad health care. But I would've thought most people seriously considering relocating there permanently surely would've taken that issue into account.

The doctor that misdiagnosed you.... A common disease as you say in a known geographic area, if he has experience, he should be able to diagnose with his eyes closed. I'd keep my eye on that doctor. They have medical staff working for them also
