I LET 4 BODY TYPE EXPERTS DRESS ME: Today I’m sharing the results of a recent style experiment I did where 4 different body type experts dressed me according to my unique yin yang balance. This goes beyond the dated fruit and shape methods to find out your body type and instead these body typing systems encourage us to find our body shape and embrace what makes us unique rather than try and make us all look the same. I think it’s one of the best things you can do for your personal style and to find out my body type, I worked with 2 women specializing in David Kibbe and 2 others with their own systems. I’ve embedded timestamps below and I’d love to know which of these was your favorite. Thank you so much for watching xx Audrey

I have trouble seeing the gamine in you. I loved the last analysis, and I wholeheartedly agree with your past typing of yourself as a soft classic. You come across as so sophisticated and intellectual as well as youthful, soft, feminine, but classic and somewhat understated. Please no on the bob cut and colorblocking!!! :)
@maryokeefe5351
@maryokeefe5351 4 года назад
I also think Audrey is a soft classic. And I respectfully disagree with you about the bob, which can beautifully emphasis pretty facial features. It is more chic in my opinion. Long hair with an undefined shape can look a bit juvenile. But Audrey looks lovely as she is, of course.
@rayannlogan9590
@rayannlogan9590 4 года назад
The "youthful" that you see IS the gamine. Gamine doesn't always look boyish, despite the name. It can also mean youthful, ingenue, girlish etc. I also think that Soft Classic / Ethereal Classic Ingenue is great on Audrey.

careful with not mixing body geometry and essence. Audreys essence is definitly soft classic with a tad gamine but her body geometry is gamine. Bringing both aspects in balance in one outfits is huge challenge.
@disgsteng6755
@disgsteng6755 3 года назад
i feel she is indeed gamine, but with a classic essence. her body is not very classic, and it's definitely not soft. he has a straight vertical line that seems longer than she really is, and a bit of angularity in her body. if she's a classic, then a dramatic one. but i still stick to flamboyant gamine with a classic essence for her. the fact that she "comes across" as sophisticated means you're picking up on essence, not on her real type.

Dear Audrey, don't feel bad about dressing "older" earlier in your life. I did the same thing when I had a corporate job in New York. Even if you weren't dressing authentically for who you were, you were dressing authentically for the person whom, at the point in your life, you aspired to be. Equally valid!

That is so true. But what happens after a while is you adapt even the corporate look into your comfort level as you get older. And I don't like to be a total slob when I go out to be a slob for the day. Go to a thrift shop. Go to Costco. Do usual stuff. But I do wear stuff that is clean. And it makes me comfortable. And what I have found is that it makes me feel more respectful to other people. And they are kinder to me. And with the pandemic and everybody is freaking out everywhere, with our mask we don't have as many visual clues as to how we were are affecting other people. But if you dress with an intent to be friendly yet accessible, people react. They can see the smile under the mask. Or if they really do something dumb, they can feel you thinking boy that was really dumb under your mask. Peace.

Catherine Emond Yes I believe it’s her soft voice too. I think flowing dresses suit her beautifully but they always have part that is fitted so it’s not exactly ethereal. An ethereal look is “other worldly”, like the flowing costumes Cate Blanchett wore on Lord of the Rings. Cate also has the porcelain skin which gives her ethereal look in those gowns.

One of your best posts, Audrey. I think this deserves a longer conversation. Maybe just a poston the recommended outfits and how they resonated with you. How did you feel in the outfits? Which do you think capture your essence best? I love the very last one the cardigan with the flowy skirt. But as Franny said, the only perspective that really matters in the end is yours. Thank you so much! Since I did this video I’ve been playing around with all of them and I definitely think I’m a flamboyant gamine in body geometry with a classic essence and I’m having so much fun playing with this new revelation! I’m also having such a great time adding in ethereal and ingenue elements from Rachel’s analysis and more colors from Alyssa’s analysis 🤗 it’s been the best experience and it’s helping me meld so many things I love into full looks ❤️ it’s also been really helpful for me to understand that in body typing Kibbe especially goes from Dramatic to natural to classic to gamine to romantic, which makes so much sense why I’ve straddled both classic and gamine (I'm pretty sure soft classic is right before flamboyant gamine) in my fashion choices but also felt like traditionally girly things didn’t feel totally out of place on me (in small doses). It also helps makes sense of why many people that don’t know me personally think I must be a classic because I think classic clothing is a good place for just about everyone to start but ignoring my true body geometry and dressing too much to my essence alone has always felt off on me and now it’s all making so much sense. It’s all so fascinating and such a fun experience ❤️

I think Rachel's interpretation of your style essence is the very best of them all. I could be biased, though, because for her outfits there were no stark white pieces. The white looks like it should only be an accent on you and never a major player in color blocking. Black and white look great on people with high contrast between their skin and hair. For medium contrast people, like yourself, medium contrast color blocking would work.

This was so fascinating! Btw regarding you moving your hands: after analyzing many many TED videos the TED organization found out that the most watched videos are by people who very often show their open hands. The reason is very primal: open hands make us feel comfortable because it ensures that the person we're watching doesn't have a weapon in their hands. So actually your open hands subliminally signal to your audience that you're safe to watch. No need to try to change that because you're perfect just the way you are.

My favorite was the first one with Elyssa. I think she is right - you need more vibrant colors. The green skirt and burgundy pants would be perfect. The silhouettes from your wardrobe worked well, but the black competes with your hair. Adding those colors would make the overall appearance look more vibrant, but I think you would still be true to yourself and your own sense of style. So yes, you should try those out for a week and do a video to let us know what you think. This was a great presentation. I am going to look into these women!

The two middle ones were typing based on her body lines. So while yes, her face is very classic, her body is most definitely gamine in body geometry. You can be a gamine on not have the stereotypical gamine essence.
@gb917
@gb917 3 года назад
@@africandaughter3110 It's usually advised to dress for your face though. To me she a thin natural. I don't see any gamine essence at all. Someone that looks like a young Twiggy is way more gamine than her.
@africandaughter3110
@africandaughter3110 3 года назад
@@gb917 I'm thinking she should dress for her face _and_ her body. While I felt the dress fit her face it didn't look that harmonious on her body. I also think she is definitely a gamine in body type tag. She has that juxtaposition going on with her long torso vs short legs and angular shoulders with a petite frame. I agree i see no gamine essence, I'm talking about her body type. Which is definitely flamboyant gamine. Were talking about two complète typing systems. One focuses on face and essence the other is focused on body lines. She can use both to achieve the best look.

I also don’t think you came up with similar choices from the 1st suggestions. This is meant only as helpful input, but the long pleated skirt is not the right style for your short and frail frame, and the white v t-shirt really was a poor choice. My mind’s eyes translated the suggestion which would look very lovely on you as a slip skirt that is soft & slightly flowie and falls below your knees but not all the way to your ankles. The contrast of the white v neck t-shirt wasn’t good.... Look for something much softer with a slight drape around your neck and made of a soft feminine fabric. The sleeve should also have a soft drape - wether short, 3/4, or long. The other choices you made were very nice... I loved the neutral skirt & top with matching pointed heels... Really a very attractive look on you!!! The black jump suit was very nice as well. I liked your hair with the side part pulled into a fluffy full pony tail. I also like your hair down. You have a very demure and gentile demeanor and are a lovely sweet young woman.

Ive done color and wardrobe analysis ( non professionally but as a passion since high school. Am now on my 70’s) and if I may add my impressions and observations…. I agree most with Rachel’s assessment. Classic for sure shows up in your love of well made, timeless wardrobe pieces. Classic trait helps maintain order & structure. Ingenue shows in your light, sunny but soft presentation and facial features. Your interest in experimentation and little changes. Playfulness and creativity to keep things fresh & young. But always tempered by the classic trait. The ethereal is most evident in your appreciation for “mystical” stones such as pearl and mother of pearl.. I would guess you also like moonstone and abalone. There is a otherworldly, dreamy quality about you at times, in your fluid and graceful movements which fits the ethereal type. Soft flowing dresses, soft colors, bits of feminine detail like ruffles. Also, as an opera singer, it’s evident that you like theatre and it’s fantasy. This quality plus your ingenue are likely responsible for having not been “taken seriously” in professional settings. I’ve had the same problem. I eventually realized I was just in the wrong environment! These qualities emerge in your imagination and desire for creativity , which seems to fight a bit with your classic type, and , again, lend a dreamy quality to your presence😊 As a personal preference, I find your softer clothing and low contrast seem to suit you better than hard high contrast patterns such as black & white stripes, which I feel are too harsh & seem to “wear you”! Your natural aspect is evident in the natural fibers you prefer and the natural simplicity of adornment in attire as well as your home. I also find a subtle indication in your modeling poses… mostly outdoors where you are looking at nature or sky rather than directly confronting the camera. Very appealing with your slight swaying movements like a light breeze. Please embrace this feminine sweetness. Many women are losing it and the world truly needs it! Very interesting video. Really sparked my interest in wardrobe again.

I 100% agree with this. I'm by no means an expert but Audrey's body shape is as classic as you can get. I've always thought she had a classic + natural + ingenue aura and recently (as I've come to accept in my personal journey that ethereal isn't just Tilda Swinton and Lord of the Rings elves!) an ethereal aura - floaty clothes and wispy hair look amazing on her. I don't see gamine in the slightest, though I have noticed a trend that some body typers have a tendency to type others as their type - I know I would as I know exactly what to look for in a FN, other types less so.

Love the idea of the mini capsules and a video about them! Based on this video, I thought Rachel's look suited you best, although they were all good. I would have liked to see a better representation of Elyssa's suggestions - they were so strongly colour-based that seeing her outfits in black and white made it hard to evaluate them, and I think the green and burgundy would really suit you.

Hey Audrey, I've enjoyed your videos for a while and I don't usually comment, but I couldn't resist with this video as it's a favourite topic of mine. I truly think you look your best in more balanced outfits because you might be a balanced/blended type. (A classic, or soft classic) I've also noticed that in your jewlery video, you didn't enjoy the large blue flower costume earrings because you felt they overwhelmed your petite frame. However I find that women who are closer to the flamboyant gamine type, can pull off larger/louder jewlery without it wearing them. In one of your outfit videos, you disliked a pair of black pants that were larger and said you preferred pants that fit closer to your body. Similariliy, you look so stunning in your understated and elegant style, which comes across in your essence also. I enjoyed this video, but definitely have to agree with the gentle classic analysis for you. ♥️

This is shamefully unrelated to the video but Audrey you remind me so much of Claire Fraser, both in looks and mannerism. Your hair, your softness, the way you hold your hands as if to accommodate that volume of a 18th century dress. You really do feel like a timeless beauty.

I have to agree with the rest that I loved the last looks on you (styled by Rachel)! I feel like she captured aspects of you that we haven't seen before but suit you to a T! I personally love the gamine style, I suspect I'm one myself, and it suits you. But gosh that last style was so true to your hair, your posture, your personality, just so spot on! I think the more classical formal styles you usually wear are nice and correct but confining some aspect of you. That last look (cardigan and skirt) just made you look so free, so yourself, and still stylish, feminine, put together and all that you aspire! I hope you explore that style further! Wow I'm really curious now to know if there is a style I've yet to explore for myself ☺️

I love that you use your hands while talking! My son is Deaf so my family is immersing slowly into Deaf world and American Sign Language which truly is an extension of natural gesticulation. The "sitting on my hands" part hurts, because in the past some children were forced to not use ASL in school (and had to sit on their hands) to make them learn to speak, and it was so wrong. Never sit on your hands! Don't let people curb your natural way of expression! This is who you are and this is how you express yourself, if people don't like it, they should change their mindset, not you.

Seasonal color analysis and body typing really can be life-changing. I now only shop for the colors that complement me and clothing that looks good for my body and not the body I've been told I should have. It also helped me to finally part with clothing that didn't work for me. I can't tell you how much money I've been able to save because I'm not shopping every trend, or buying the same pieces that I see on someone else just because it's pretty. I wish I'd found these typing systems sooner. Great video! I'm glad more people are learning about and using these systems. Audrey, you look amazing in colors! The last two looks were very pretty!

I have to be honest: I found these "experts" and their "methods" absurdly confusing and overwhelmingly complicated. They and their techniques gave me a headache. Really? Seriously? @travelandlaughs9281
@travelandlaughs9281 4 года назад
I tried doing this experiment as well recently, except I didn't have experts send me clothing. I figured out my "Kibbe Type" and bought a few things that matched what it said I should be wearing. Some of the things I already owned, some of the things I purchased. The things I purchased, I DID NOT LIKE on myself. At ALL. Ever since that, I just trust myself to know what works best for me. I would say I believe more in the power of color. I am very pale cool toned skin, but with pink undertones instead of blue undertones. I have dark brown hair and light brown eyes. Certain colors look AWFUL on me. Other colors make me look glowing. Now I just try to focus on color and emphasising my waist because I have a slightly curvier figure( think Jennifer Love-Hewitt) Anyway, all this to say that dressing for my "body type" didn't feel natural and did not match my essence or personality. There is so much more to a person looking good in what they have on than their measurements. 👍

Hi Audrey, this is a fantastic video and the whole experiment is very interesting. I think the third looks (clueless style with shorter skirt and blazers) are the ones that did not look the best on you, as they make you look like a very young girl who is trying to look older. However, the last ones were perfect, especially this nude outfit with the pleated skirt and cardigan: the color suits you so well, and you look so elegant and feminine in it. Really a winner. I would really be interested in a series of videos with capsules and your analysis for each recommandations. Rachel’s style choices were good. But those colors seem more suitable for a soft summer or autumn season whereas surely Audrey is a Dark Winter (witness how well she wears crisp black and optic white)? Those muted down shades seem to struggle against Audrey’s strong coloring in a way that does not harmonize as well as Audrey’s own regular choices, I thought. I like the fact Audrey focuses on only neutral optic white, navy blue and jet black - those suit her very well!

Oh, boy, the outfits from the last lady were right on. I think the ethereal idea really added the extra and needed piece. The dresses fit that so well. The jumpsuit though looked so sophisticated without looking stiff. My idea about this is - often people wear clothing in ignorance and only because they like the pieces. Sometimes an uneducated eye doesn’t see what the world sees and is blinded by what they like and not how they look in the pieces. I hope this makes sense. I think most of us want to look slimmer, taller, and attractive and color blocking, for instance, is really tricky if that’s your goal. This was such a fun vid and thank you. Years ago I took a 3 day class that dealt with personality, body shape, color and it was one of the best things I have ever done. People don’t often mention neck areas and that is so important to those of us with no necks. When I was young, I never could figure out why I didn’t like how I looked or felt in my turtleneck cashmere that I had painfully saved my babysitting money for. Now that sounds elementary but when I went to that class and realized that my neck wasn’t made for turtlenecks for many reasons, and I should switch to V necks or horseshoe necks even when everyone else is wearing Tnecks. I have saved myself so much time and money shopping and I don’t waste time on trying on pieces that I know are not what I’m going to feel good in. Enuf of my rant, loved all of this video.

Everyone raises their eyebrows when I talk about this new discovery - as if to say "but of course - we saw this all along !". I too remember, at age fourteen, saving all my holiday and birthday money to buy a cropped, fuzzy textured, jewel blue, mock neck sweater .... and then the deflation of seeing my square, busty physique in this longed for garment !! and finding it itchy to boot. I love Rachel’s recommendations the best. I actually did Kibbe a few years ago and was recommended and settled on FG. After a year or so I abandoned the concept entirely. When Rachel first started out I was around that as well, it was so interesting to see her concepts evolve into the system she has now. I think it is 100 percent better then Kibbe. His system might be great for some people, but a lot became frustrated and disillusioned - it is just another type of ‘box’ to try and fit into. Sorry.. I love your blog and try to keep up with all your posts. But I am very glad to leave my Kibbe experiences in the past, and will never ever return there again.

Loved it! It was interesting to compare how others saw you vs. how you see (present) yourself. For example, you identify with soft classic and when Elyssa typed you as "flamboyant gamine," I was like, "yes!" I also resonated with the idea of "giving yourself permission" to be who you really are. I sometimes "hide" my curves in clothes that are too big for me because I don't want to draw unwanted attention. I'm seriously considering getting typed because I've cast myself as "soft natural" when I might even be another type. Thank you for continuing to inspire us especially during these uncertain times.
