Fun fact about flower breeding! The colour of a flower is derived from their genes. Yes, they gave flowers genes in this game. Or, to be more game-y, an ID. In particular, the ID of freshly planted red roses is 2001. And if a flower clones itself, so does its ID. Now, if two flowers are bred to form a new one, the new ID is derived from the ID of its parents. And this works by calculating each digit of the ID by halving the respective ID of each parent and adding the results together. So if you had a rose with the ID 2000 (which is a black rose) and a rose with the ID 2002 (which is a pink rose), the result would be 1000 + 1001 = 2001 which is a red rose. However, one thing worth noting is that, if the parent contains a 1 in their ID, it will not in fact be halved when breeding; rather, to add some randomness, a 1 will, in breeding, give a 50-50 chance of either adding 0 or 1 to the respective digit of their offspring. So a red rose 2001 bred with a black rose 2000 will give a red rose 2001 50% of the time and a black rose 2000 50% of the time and two red roses 2001 will give a black rose 2000 25% of the time, a pink rose 2002 25% of the time and a red rose 2001 50% of the time. So. The fact that the island ended up being covered in black roses was pure coincidence, as it could have ended up being covered in pink roses just as well. However, once a patch has completely turned either black or pink, there is no turning back. Also, if you wanted the most colourful carpet of roses, you should start from a pink rose with ID 1111 for the most possible combinations. :P

i havent done much terraforming on the northernmost parts of my island, and with all of the rainy days i had in june, the tulips have completely taken over. theres no escape.

Watching this flower field was like watching a one-sided game of Go. 👍🏻 A few quick ACNH gardening facts: 1. Two reds often produce black together; otherwise they produce more red. 2. Two black roses always produce more black UNLESS they were once watered with a gold watering can (the only way to get gold roses), which explains why they overtook red here. 23. The fact that you got ANY pink roses implies your starting flower had some hidden genes. When grown from seeds (rather than wild roses), red roses can't produce pink without adding white. 4. The more days a flower is watered without reproducing or being moved, the more likely it'll reproduce next time. Hence the slow start. 5. I bet if you tried this with lilies it'd take half the time. They are truly the most weedlike of ACNH flowers.

I’ve been breeding for every single kind of flower, and I’m down to waiting for my first blue rose. I haven’t been throwing away or selling any of the results, because I still haven’t completely decided how I’m going to arrange them on my island. I just dig up the trash flowers and put them elsewhere. I do not have many spaces left.

Here’s an idea for a video: How long does it take to pay off your debt completely just by using items given to you from villagers? The rules are that you are not allowed to make money any way except by selling the items given to you by villagers whether it be by completing a task for them or when they give you something in return for something you gave them.

I recently cleared my island of all the flowers. They had been spreading since the beginning and the top two layers of the island were covered. I had been dreading it and been postponing it. It's took me 6 hours and 13 shovels to do. It's now so beautifully clear. I love it! I did go down a star in my rating, though. Isabelle said I need more nature...

I have a ton of flowers on my island, including a dedicated flower garden that takes up a huge chunk of the northwest corner. Every time it rains, I groan and immediately go buy an extra shovel to prepare for the following day.

even though nobody asked, here’s a quick (not really) rundown of what went down in the field in terms of genes. The first rose, according to what I think, had the same genes as ones from seed bags. This is the case for the flowers that *initially* spawn on your island. In this case, the genotype is RR-yy-ww-Ss, or 2001. It cloned, producing a genetically identical flower, and the first black rose produced has the genotype 2000 (RR-yy-ww-ss). then, the 3 of the roses present had a pair produce another black with the same genotype, (which is the only genotype of black present) and more black roses were produced. this is where the black rose mob originated, because this genotype of black rose (2000) is homozygous, and as such, when bred with another of the same, will only ever produce the same genotype (in acnh). The reds were lucky to create that much of an impact in the area they did. the first pink rose came from a pairing of 2 reds, which are the same as the original even though it could have bred with black roses. 2001 (the reds) and 2000 (black) only make more 2001 and 2000, red and blacks. anyway, these pinks roses are genotype 2002 (RR-yy-ww-SS). 2001 can make both 2000 and 2002, so that’s why there were still some black roses mixed with the red and pink swathe. The reason for some of the pink “blocks” is the same reason for the huge amounts of black roses. the pinks are homozygous, producing only more of themselves when bred with eachother. the rest is down to rng, but it wasn’t super unlikely that the reds died out anyway, because a pairing of reds has a 50% chance to make the same red, and 25% chance to make either pink or black. that should be everything, let me know if anyone wants to know anything else about this case

Now I wanna see a flower war- plant 4 different colored flowers in 4 different corners (not necessarily on the edge of the island, just like, 10-20 spaces from the other flowers in a diamond or square shape) and see which one dominates the other 🤔 maybe it can be done with different types of flowers instead of colors since the OG flowers will breed to make new colors and it'll be hard to track which original flower is winning

5:38 NO. THIS IS NOT TRUE IN ANY WAY. GOLD ROSES CANNOT SPAWN DUE TO RAIN. gold roses can only be made by watering a black rose with the golden watering can. when you do that, the black rose is "marked" as having been watered by the gold can, and it retains that mark indefinitely until it creates a gold rose, at which point the mark is cleared. you can dig the flower up, trade it to someone else, and it rains on their island and spawns a gold rose, but "omg the rain made a gold rose" NO. IT WAS SIMPLY WATERED AT SOME POIONT IN THE PAST BY A GOLD WATERING CAN AND JUST HAPPENED TO SPAWN THE GOLD ROSE AFTER RAIN> THE RAIN HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. This misinformation keeps getting perpetuated by people in the ACNH community and it is so frustrating to see when it is 100% false, it has been datamined, we know how it works entirely.

I would love to see, what happens if you plant one of each of the base color roses...
