this album review is late because i had to perform some dark magic to stop the video from instantly getting copyright claimed by bighit entertainment LOL there's literally 4 entire minutes worth of BTS' music in this video because i wanted to show you guys the various parts i was talking about. i somehow accomplished that . . . scary. anyway, if i were to do another K-pop review as someone who doesn't care about K-pop, what group would you recommend?
@@soonidoognidori8477, nor does BTS lol, but yea. I actually don't mind the autotune in this album as much anymore (at first it was a little too much) because my ears have grown used to the album and all the songs are always on repeat :)
@@xxxxx8891 true! But sometimes there are some songs that i think would be perfect with their natural voices, I think they put too much effort on the autotune.
He didn’t insult their looks, ethnicity, language, or accents of any member, he just did constructive criticism and I love it.. not being into their music is a totally ok thing, and only toxic army would think otherwise. Anyways stream “BE”🏃🏾♀️💨💨
OmG like 2 years ago I stop being an army and last month I heard they dropped a new album so I checked it out, and when I tell you it was an emotional roller coaster, it really was, the whole album was a masterpiece the only problem was "dynamite" and the Auto-Tune on some of yoongi raps which I'm not surprised because most if not all of the boy groups I "stan" now uses Auto-Tune alot in their songs now(I feel like it's going to be the new trend in the kpop industry) but after all this time they still have this special "gem" in their music considering the fact how huge they are now, but I think I'm going to go back to being an army...
@@simpalert2437 yeah dynamite was autotuned a lot, but I was thinking maybe because, it's a full English song, and it was hard for them to sing in English completely Also, glad you're back to the fandom 💜
@@simpalert2437 I liked dynamite, but ppl act like it’s their best song. Honestly dynamite is one of their most generic songs, it gives me those highschool musical vibes just something that the western audience (mainly America) will EAT up and boy they did. But I feel like they have so many more great songs than dynamite. Also, I can’t even listen to it anymore, it got so overplayed I just can’t😭😭😭 but ofc everyone is entitled to their own opinions
@@Plut0h0bi_ ngl dynamite did make me really happy when I first listen to it, I heard that is wasn't produced nor, written by them and they also had second thoughts about putting it out but they wanted army to be happy so they gifted them that as a "present", they themselves didn't know that dynamite would go well or big as it is now lol, I agree that it was generic but it's seem like people really loved it, they also got alot of new fans aswell during that era.
HOW ? Map 7 lowkey sucks (the autotune is so annoying, BigHit is doing it with TXT too and it doesn't sound good) Persona had better side tracks and the MV was better
To the "army" who disliked the video because they felt attacked. He did his research on all the songs. He searched up the lyrics, knew the backgrounds of each song, the members' vocals and names. He didn't 'slander' the songs, it was more like constructive criticism. Yes, he did say he disliked some parts of a song but he gave a clear (and understandable) reason as to why. There are always going to be people to dislike their songs. We are ALLOWED to dislike their songs. As an army myself, I can confidently say that not all of their songs are 100% hits. I like some songs more than others. That's based on preference, and feeling attacked by it most likely means that you aren't being truthful to yourself. He was being honest and for some of the things he said, I could agree on as well. Thank you for this respectful review.
For example he said he didn‘t liked Dionysus that much and I share his opinion it’s definitely not my favourite song but I still like it and I liked his video and when I feel like I have another opinion about a song it’s okay because that’s your own style
He’s actually how a non bts fan is supposed to be like, not just offending their looks, he doesn’t call them names or anything like that, he just doesn’t like their music but thx for being honest
i didnt like bts up until like legit a few days ago and even then i was shocked at how much people hated them like wow??? Like they are all very good looking the worst thing I said about them was that I couldn't tell them apart XD ( i can now lol ) but people really love to hate on them for no reason like can they stop
“Its hilarious...basically just two grown men singing like a love friendship song to each other,,, what I’m trying to say here is like i literally love this song so much” u had me in the first half ngl
As an old BTS fan, i find this video hilarious, respect bro, u did not hate on there looks, u did not hate on them, you criticized the music and u were honest about it, okay i just love the way u deal with this and yeah, also yeah ON ft. SIA isn't something we like either so go on.
As an ARMY with many ARMY friends, I’m constantly surrounded by people who have little to no criticism whatsoever towards the boys. I’ve had other ARMYs get mad at me for disliking some of their songs, someone was even upset with me for disliking ON (feat. Sia) which I thought everyone hated. It was really refreshing to get an outside perspective of their talent and all of the criticism was really valid and well thought-out.
It is hard to be open when with other ARMYs tbh. Just because you do not like a few songs doesn't mean you are an anti or something. You should just like more songs than you dislike...and imo being an ARMY or whatever other fandom means you like them beyond the music as well...they add some value to your life. Otherwise, there is no point. So, if you feel you are an ARMY, it could even be 5 very precious songs and an understanding of the message that you use to inspire you. They should bring some positive influence to your life and that is not really dependent on 50 songs. I do not think die hard rock fans like EVERY single song in their fave band. Just a thought.
@@etherean369 precisely. Most fans of any bands will have some songs they don’t like, that’s normal. But it seems that with kpop and BTS especially theres this expectation that all the fans should like all the songs and it’s just ridiculous. No one can make everyone happy with everything they do or create.
The whole album reflect his inner battle way on the beggining of his carrer, its very depth, talks about his anxiety and other issues. I hope he do a review. The reason I like BTS, its because of Suga, I first hear a couple of songs of BTS and got interested in him, found his mixtape and that was it.
When I hear of a "kpop react", this is exactly what I hope to see rather than those fake ones that pretend to enjoy and be loud and obnoxious. He's not hating on them, he's just genuinley expressing how he feels. No one has to like the song and shouldn't be forced too. Same goes to the opposite side. No need to throw uneccessary hate if you can't backup your reason for hating it. Other than that, I really enjoyed this video!
no wonder why there are a lot of kpop fans here that respect him, ladies and gentlemen, we respect this guy and protect him at all costs from stupid people that just want attentions when they criticize him for being too cool to kpop fans
I agree with you I really love and respect his opinion and his channel and I really do agree with what he was saying I love how he was being honest not ignorant or toxic and even learned there names and other stuff Im just glad he tried to listen to them and gave his honest opinion (and yes protect him at all cost)💜
He was wrong about one thing: ARMYs appreciate the fact that he did his research and gave BTS a fair shake. His opinions are his own and we may disagree but we respect his opinion because it was incredibly well-informed.
Right! So many people judge them based off toxic fans or their most poular songs without taking the time to get to know the boys themselves or their music. Even if people don't like it they shouldn't just openly disrespect. Some people are just blatanly rude and racist and it's disgusting. They have a huge superiority complex when it comes to k-pop and it makes me upset because not all music in the industry is that bad. Believe it or not I wasn't really into k-pop either. I thought it was manufactured and fake, but when I took the time to research I ended up liking a lot more songs than I expected. I just think people shouldn't open their mouths unless they're actually educated. So many people speak off prejudice and it kinda stings.
8:39 filter is actually a really dark song beyond its beyond sexy execution that discusses the nuances and troubles of going out of your way to constantly impress and win someone over because your version of you isn't ideal. jimin asking "is it still not enough?" and saying "you'l be wanting only me, because you are the one who made me" is actually very jarring and eye opening as we look into how he only version of him people accept and love and want is the one they've created themselves. that itself is actually really difficult to deal with and face and the way he was able to build that inte the choreo, adding to the metaphor is insane because people are so distracted by the sexy r the song that they don't even try l choree for looking inte it more. he can be controlled by you (Genie) but how about being in control (Aladdin)? jimin has many versions of himself he wants to show the world but you won't be happy until it's the version you picked out for him, a stereotype you have in your head, a prejudice. it's a very powerful metaphor
i like how even tho he doesn’t like bts he still gave them a chance. he took the time to actually read and understand the lyrics, even figure out which member raps or sings it. i always see people hating on bts’s music when they haven’t even listened to it. people always are going to have their opinion on things and some people are just going to have to deal with it. i like how he still appreciated their vocals and raps
AnDaA 9395 that’s what I was thinking the whole time, I’m glad he’s so respectful compared to haters who completely unacknowledge that BTS is actually talented
hilomona I think that’s the only way to give an exact opinion. Yes, army’s know a lot about BTS but aren’t we biased? He doesn’t like them but he tried to be as neutral as possible and explain his reasoning for not really liking them. By researching he made himself neutral and unbiased in the non army category. If I was giving my opinion on something I didnt like and still try to be respectful, this is exactly what I would do. If that’s not the way you would do it, don’t hate because he was respectful and unbiased in this situation. He knew he didn’t like them but he still gave them a try. We should be grateful. He gave us another pov.
They sound alright. I could jam on it, but I am a dance music fanatic. I cannot bring myself to like the group though.. because of the cultism. It is a shame really.
I love the construction though. The album is written in precisely the same way I write.. everything. They even use similar terms, I think that I have written this album before in fact. Of course, it is not them writing it.
@@IfmoneycanbuyhappinessIwntall You are allowed to be an exception. However, you would have to he seeing the programming at work to avoid falling into the traps presented. The fanbase for this particular group is loaded with them. Cultism in general.. it is something we cannot tolerate. Unfortunately, it has become the underlying matrix for the human operating system at this point.
Coming back to this video, i noticed that I wasn't objective about BTS. I just loved them so much that i didn't really got into a really objective perspective. Sorry for saying it, but not all of their songs are THE BEST and that's okay! No one of us are perfect and trying different styles helps a lot!
I couldn't not be objective lol. There are some BTS songs I skipped from day 1... and it's totally okay! I love that they experiment & grow...it keeps them fresh AND also exposes them to mistakes & the occasional ISH ISH song. The point is whether or not they have MORE GOOD songs than bad... There are BTS songs I listen to for the message....not the musicality. Others for both. Others cause they sound AMAZING. For me this is more important than a few total skips .
It is impossible to be objective. Saying something or someone is objective can even be dangerous. Many ppl take this man's thoughts as objective and therefore take it as there own without realizing some of his points can also be rightly critized.
fr- i feel like if RM stumbled upon this video, i doubt he will but IF, he’d be taking this constructive criticism in a nice way cuz it’s actually helpful.
AD I agree, if people could be just a bit more open minded I feel like everyone would be able to experience new things and enjoy things that you never thought of, but since not everyone is like that, there's definitely trashy people like Shallon Lester for example who completely ignored their actual music and was just referring them as women and saying other things. But I really appreciate D'Angelo for not doing that 🙂.
Yes, with BTS is important for all albums to research the story and all to understand their music :) Also since it is a story and the story has a narrative that is usually in groups of 3 albums, it's hard to understand their work if you listen to them randomly.
@Perla Lopez Gomez How can I say this... there is literally no step they take without someone having something to complain about. As for copy is not entirely true, in art is acceptable as long as it's not exactly the same (the design is what they used).
I hope the company stop the autotune cuz they literally don't need it. Also they always do V dirty like my guy has such a wide range and soulful voice..
I listened to it. It was better than MOTS7, But still I didn't personally love it. One album I did like though, Was "BE". I don't think it's great. But, it's really good.
Because what one considers "informed" may seem to be completely lacking of knowledge to someone else who is more informed, and thus it's subjective. No one is knocking anyone for being honest, but thinking you're informed when you're not? Pretty easy to get mad at if you take the topic at hand seriously.
@@lovemusic10yearsago93 Your kinda toxic to say that when theirs blatent evidence, true he is a AMAZING vocal singer but its all hidden by robotic autotune.

In all honesty, this is one of the best bts album reviews I've seen because d'angelo doesn't sugarcoat and isn't afraid of speaking his own opinion, as he should. and to armys who disliked this video, he literally pointed out both good AND bad points about the album. this is one of the best reviews we can get at all.

As an ARMY, I actually agree with many of the things you said. Like others said in this comment section, their voices can actually sound autotuned-ish naturally, but I still think sometimes the autotune (not only in this album) is too excessive, unnecessary and at times annoying. But the messages they spread in the majority of their songs and their performance are outstanding, you can't really argue with that. And yeah, Jungkook and Yoongi killed it (yes I'm biased)
I’m so late even though I watched this a year ago Okay so in my opinion, I feel like- and this goes for other groups too- some of BTS’s songs aren’t like a good listen, not because they’re bad songs, but because they’re more performance songs. A big, good example is Dionysus! I like the song, but the vibe doesn’t match me and I don’t really listen to it on like Spotify (song alone). I find myself enjoying and getting the hype when I watch them perform the song lol esp MMA 2019... it was so hype... Anyways yeah this video is old but still I love this commentary and reactions haha
fr, there are certain times where I can’t listen to some songs bc it just doesn’t fit my vibe atm. but I also think that goes to show how diverse and experimental they are
I feel like this applies to a lot of kpop groups lol the music is only part of the whole thing its supposed to be enjoyed with the choreo and a vibe created
I agree dionysus and even not today imo are songs that are meant to be performed, I'd say the same thing goes to ON and even another Kpop Group called Seventeen. I never liked these songs no matter how many times I listened to them, but when I watched the performance I was so mind blown and whenever I hear these songs now the performance comes flashing back to my mind and I get hyped lol.
As a BTS fan It’s a breath of fresh air to see someone give real criticism without being racist and disrespectful. Learning their names, understanding their strong and weak points, and going in and reading their lyrics to better understand the song really warms my heart.
I can’t even listen to “we are bulletproof: the eternal” because it’s makes me so emotional... I’ve been a part of the ARMY family for several years now and hearing the song and listening to the lyrics make me realize that they’ve been through so much and they’ve grown to become many people’s inspiration and I’m honestly very thankful to them for being who they are
we stan a man who, even though he doesn’t like bts, took the time research translations for the songs, familiarized himself with all the members, in order to give an honest review
Even though he dislikes bts the fact he did so much research, looked into the lyrics, the message they’re trying portray and said everything he says in this video is subjective that’s impressive.
To be honest, I’m sad that we have people in this fandom who can’t take criticism. Your video is respectful, and it’s obvious that you put a lot of time into making it. It’s a shame that some people are immature and feel the need to “protect” bts, even when what you’re saying isn’t hateful. THANK YOU for making an in depth review with constructive criticism.
as a bts stan this was so refreshing to watch. i’m so tired of all those other reactors who just blindly praise everything bts do bc they’re too afraid to give their honest opinion in fear of getting hate. thank you for doing your research and being respectful
Thank u thank u. I literally never watch reaction channel things because it always seems that their excitement is exaggerated and fake, but D'Angelo is not afraid to get his honest opinion out In which I'd watch this over any reaction any day.
Amazing Appleness righttt, i feel like he’s so genuine and just a really likeable person in general . i can tell he puts a lot of hard work and effort into all of his videos so i really appreciate him for that
When he was reviewing We are bulletproof: The eternal and he said "If you are a long time fan this song will probably be really moving for you" *I felt that.*
No, most other people hate it because it promotes what is literally called a "Slave Contract" which is what controls these people's lives, it's strict, inhumane and morally incorrect people in Korea have spoken out about this, but their success is what keeps it going
[Jac̡҉k̕_ W҉̛̕o͞od̀́͞s̢͞] Slave contracts are illegal and idols can sue to get out of unfair/breached contracts. Maybe do a little more research than watching “the dark side of kpop” videos.
This was way more positive than you prefaced. 😅 that said, I appreciate your honesty because it was informed and respectful. And I agreed with quite a bit. Tbh, one of the things I dislike about fandoms (in general, but army is no exception) is the way Stans refuse to be critical. Artists are not perfect - personally or in their professional work. It’s ok to not love every single thing your fave does. It makes the appreciation more sincere. You’re not a fan? Could’ve fooled me!
Ngl I do respect his opinions atleast he isn’t like screaming or like “ they got no talent “ i do understand that theres some flaws with their songs but I still like it so respect to you dude 💜
The fact that he, who is not a fan, took the time to look up the translated lyrics to gain an understanding of the song, makes me feel weirdly proud because there exists fans who don't even do this.
i did that too when i heard bts songs! their music is not for me even though i enjoy it to some extent but they have some great lyrics even though they were in a language i dont know. i respect them for their honesty and sincerity and like them but dont consider them my favourites or whatever. they put their best foot forward and i wont bash them for that. but army stans scare me
Deadpool army stands are definitely extra... I stay clear of them too and I love BTS. I got into them in February but I’m not that obsessed with them...I’m starting to get into other k-pop groups

I hope other armys don't hate on you.
d’angelo can I please beg you to listen to LOONA? They have an entire universe told through each music video and every song is versatile and different from one another. BBC (their company) debuted one girl at a time and then put them into subunits until they reached their final debut as 12 members. Each solo song is so entirely different from the next and their composition is incredible. Not to mention once again, their universe. It gets pretty complex but there’s 3 subunits and each subunit is on a separate plane in the LOONAVERSE. 1/3 is on earth, Odd Eye Circle is on middle earth, and YYXY is on the other side of the Möbius strip in Eden. The story goes from there. I’d rather you listen to each members debut solo and their song Butterfly rather than an entire album, I feel those are the most defining parts of LOONA. :)
“Their style just isn’t for me - and that’s fine”. It is. People like to attack people who don’t like BTS’ music despite giving it a shot and just are persistent that listening more and more will make them like BTS. If it’s not for you, it’s not for you. And more people need to understand that. (Before I get hate- I’ve been an Army since Dark & Wild, I’ve been to 5 concerts and love their music so much so please don’t come at me calling me an Anti)

@@marysingler6328 he was respectful. Did you read his tweet? He criticized western audience for only supporting bts's English songs. He never criticized BTS in the tweet lol if anything he praised them, pointing out the quality of their Korean discography.
A bit of clarification. For people who don't know why Halsey was only in the song for a bit. It is because it is their lead single and when they sing the song live for music shows Halsey can not be in every show performing with them, so the original song doesn't feature her as much as you think. But I'm pretty sure they have a different version where Halsey sings all the English bits of the songs. It was more of a fun collab I guess and it's something that I wouldn't regret happening. On feat Sia is a different story however, you've already got the original song but they added another one that sounds literally the same as the original but with someone in the back. Also for songs like Dionysus, honestly packed with *Auto-Tune* but it is better to do research on the actual song itself apart from just lyrics (I'm happy that you at least done the lyrics). The Auto-Tune was to fit the concept of the song but sometimes it is better without it, BTS doesn't usually use Auto-Tune when live though. About the song Dionysus, is from Greek mythology and he is the god of wine and party. There are many other things about the song and other songs but I will not be saying everything. Overall really liked the review
:) trueee, army here. there IS a loud toxic minority in this fandom, but I personally enjoyed the review. he did a really good job in research and everything, so, mad respect for that.
I think the same for way for Halsey too in BWL. As armies we listen to BTS for them, I could care less for any other artists featuring but I still listened respectfully to develop my own criticism

I really loved his honesty. I also liked how he complimented Jungkook for his vocals like yes he really deserves to be complimented cause he's the main vocalist after all. Nowadays lot of people are criticizing and hating Jungkook for no reason. Well yes I know all of them are jealous of him bcoz he's good at literally everything and may be far better than their biases so just to satisfy their ego they are doing so. But I really loved how he mentioned facts - "This song is just Jungkook flexing his vocals." umm... he indeed has one of the best vocals in the world.

I actually really like this video. Because even though knowing he doesn’t like their sound in general, he went in with an open mind and did point out things he liked. Like the song Ugh. It was him just praising the song. And as someone who just graduated high school…a B- is a grade I would gladly take. Maybe would make some corrections, but I would be happy with it. One thing I think is important to remember. This album is a continuation from Map of the Soul: Persona. So if I’m not mistaken, about the first half of the songs were on that album and the second half are new songs.

Love Leads um~we don't agree with some of his point doesn't mean we hate him or need him to accept what we r thinking. We r not saying that he can't make these points either. We r just telling our pov on some of the points he made based on our knowledge as a fan of bts. He doesn't really know bts as much as us, he might have just listen to one or two of their recent album, and he obviously can't understand why some songs sound this way. But we have listen to literally every single song they've released and had already analyzed what kind of style is a bts style, what is a habit they have when they are making a song, and what their actual talent is. We disagree with some of the points that he's making and explain why we disagree. We got a right to diagree right? I don't see the problem of this. If we don't say anything and agree with everything he saids, I don't think we can call our self fans of bts anymore😂
@@Levyxx he didnt do complete research though, he thinks that Filter, 0:0, Boy with luv, Moon and other songs are basic, and they all have deep meanings.
As a BTS fan, I super appreciate you doing research on the songs. All your points are super valid, and I understood all your criticisms. All my friends like watching reactions where people rave about how good BTS is, but your truthful review is honestly refreshing.
But that's the whole point? I consider myself an army but I understand he wants to be informed about what he wants to criticize, to do it from a place of knowing what he is talking about and not just "yeah I don't like them because they are mainstream and I'm quirky" he gave his reasons, explained what he liked and what he didn't
@@bahia4782 believe me, some people don't even listen to a single song before running their mouths, so I love that he actually learnt things and made something constructive.
You’re still missing a lot of pieces to the story but you’re literally the only non kpop/army reactor I’ve seen do research. I have a hell of a lot of respect for you for that. So from an army, thank you!
@@grandmashelton9228 I wouldn't say "a lot of autotune" because comparing the live versions to the official versions, they sound quite alike. Also everyone complaining about autotune as if they have never seen anyone use it before. Every artist does, it's your opinion wether you think it sound like too much
