A Christmas classic, performed by Suzie & Jacob! Particularly poignant in this the strangest of years - 'I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.'

That Jacob Collier guy should definitely pursue a career in music, he seems like a genius musician!
@richardharrold9736

He should just beware of getting too carried away with technology and his own technical abilities. Sometimes, as this video demonstrates, a lot less is much, much more.

@@jacemusica what point are you making? I'm just saying that sometimes Jacob gets carried away with his technical capabilities and that the result is not always terribly listenable.
@johnlarsen1136
@johnlarsen1136 3 года назад
@Richard Harrold but you're wrong. Maybe not listenable to 'you', especially with that attitude. But I haven't heard a single thing Jacob's done that wasn't listenable. And when something's hard to wrap the mind around at first that's just another exhilerating aspect that I don't see as much as I'd like - a depth and complexity that makes pretty much every successive listen different than all the ones before it. That's 'why' I and so many others listen to Jacob so much.
@richardharrold9736
@richardharrold9736 3 года назад
@@johnlarsen1136 there comes a point with Jacob where there's just so much going on that it becomes an ugly noise. Complexity is not always an asset. It would also help if he had a good singing voice, but unfortunately he doesn't, he sounds like an upper-class altar boy...

lol it hurts me every time i see it, but not for now... --for 60 years from now. I saw Dave Brubeck live in concert in his old age.. maybe circa 2007. He was so old he had to ask the bassist what city he was in when saying 'hi' to the crowd lol... he shuffled over to the piano like an old man (with help), but and as soon as he hit that first beat -he looked like he was his old 1960's self again, through the entire show! I hope for Jacob that it doesn't cause him problems later -so he can play like a young jacob in 2080 🤞🏼

Suzi - I’m so honored! The dear friend and mentor who I “blame” for inspiring me to pursue music, was responsible for turning me on to Jacob’s music. Leonard died prematurely a few years ago and Jacob was the last in a very long, and illustrious, list of musical revelations that he “hipped” me to over the course of 40 years! He would have loved your performance with Jacob! Thank you and please stay safe and healthy.

speaking as someone who 1) has spent his life trying to like the violin, and 2) never succeeded, I used to have only one violinist I loved, Grappelli. I now have two. But Stephane did it by making sure every note was played in any brief time, you do it by having that same diversity within a single note. It would even not be a stretch to say you know how individual hairs on the bow behave, rotating to engage them. Is there anything you can say about what the *hell* you're doing? I just listen and listen (which I can and can) and it eludes me. But also, if you happened to stumble on a professional studio, say, in your house, please keep in mind you have something that should be memorialized.
@SuzieCollier
@SuzieCollier 3 года назад
Thank you for your kind message. You are right: every hair on the bow is important, and perhaps the most inspiring part of practice is experimenting with the bow to see how it behaves on any given note, on any string, and in any position. Try to play with the bow so that you go to the extremes of sound: experiment with speed and pressure so you understand the capabilities of each note you play! I'm sure you'll get there!

@@SuzieCollier so many people must come because you have something Unapproachable, but that's because you have true Ownership, which, it turns out, is Givership, so you feel your first priority to be dispelling the Unapproachableness, to make true Ownership approachable...Why is that familiar?...oh yeah, that's been my story, decades of people nagging me to record something, and I'm way more interested in what they come up with with a little encouragement... So, my searing hypocrisy aside, please record more. Because it's not just violin, I can't find any music that does whatever you're doing, not even Shamanic things that are supposed to be about nothing else. Even Jacob, who can do everything else, can't do that yet (though how heartening is that, you there over his shoulder pumping it straight into him). It's like how they'd say in Economics: "Dat dere be Scarce Widget wit' no Substitutables."
