This was better than most of the adaptations of Clarke's books. Still some things were different, Alison Eastwood's character was named Meghan instead of Patricia, and she was a TV journalist instead of a dude ranch worker. Her mother had a restaurant and inn instead of the dude ranch. Her boyfriend Mac had a son in the book. A big part of the book took place in New York City in an urban setting whereas this movie was mostly set out in the country. There was a fairly important character named Victor in the book who worked with Phillip and her dad who she actually suspected of some of the things Phillip did. Her father's name was Edwin instead of Burton, yet oddly enough they kept her half sister Annie's name the same. Her stalker Bernie was not a foreign guy in the book. There were other differences too but don't want to give to much away in case people are on who haven't read it. Sometimes I wonder why they make some of these changes they do that do nothing to the story, sometimes its almost like they change things just for the sake of changing them.

Movie commentary: I hate it when women do stupid things that put them in danger. This mother and daughter don't lock their doors. They don't close window blinds after dark. The daughter rides her horse alone even after she knows someone is after her. They both trust everyone. Most women are not stupid like that.

You’d be surprised how many women are “stupid like that.” It’s not really stupidity, it’s conditioning. Women if they are fortunate grow up with protective fathers even in working class families, especially the immigrant or highly religious families, and they never really get to develop much in the ways that you may describe as self protective. If they grow up in solid middle class families or upper class families they are protected by environment, association and resources and they aren’t learning much about threat either. Women without these protections and resources are not nearly as trusting ( you call it stupid!) because we have to be on our guard, second chances can be elusive! We learn early to fend for ourselves, to have more situational awareness, to be less trusting, to spot threat, to fight and to run. You know the masculine traits. Of course, we can still fall for the wrong guy and end up in homicidal situations with men and their complicit women. Facts: men stalk and kill women. Homicide or femicide as it were is still one of the leading causes of death for all women, globally. MHC as an author - pshaw - this is her meat and potatoes. Her entire oeuvre is the damsel in distress. The better question might be why do men stalk, assault and murder women in such great number⁉️ And why are these narratives so popular. Women aren’t stupid;,women and girls are vulnerable to seduction and attack by men and boys, and increasingly by girl gangs mimicking men. Notwithstanding we have to revisit our upbringings and perhaps weaponize our lives against aggressive, patriarchal, and misogynist world views however they may come at us. Not very romantic and quite Disturbing isn’t it....
@davidcopperfield-notthemag397
@davidcopperfield-notthemag397 2 года назад
@@jeanettesdaughter Hello. Your reasoning is right. I can see how my saying vulnerable women are stupid is wrong and uncalled for. I wish all support persons for children of all sexes would teach their children as they grow to be aware, what to do and not do, to be safe, etc. I appreciate the reasonable way you made your points and that you did not attack me. I would edit my other comments to be more sensitive, but I think our conversation will be a good teaching point for others. We all can do better at listening and speaking. Thank you for standing up for what is right. Regards.
