I decided one day to delete all my social medias. Yes, life is possible without it. I can't tell you how many times I've realized how much time I have now to do other things. You don't need the electronic pleasure brothers and sisters! God bless!
Putting a timer on Social Media was such a great way to reduce mindless scrolling and time on the phone. Your time is not just limited but you also get reminded that you already spent 30 minutes on YT and all you did was scrolling through YT shorts. It made me reflect much more on my content consumption
Absolutely love the video - though I got put off by the title, this is much more sincere than most of the “self-improvement” slog of similar packaging. Well done :D
@@TomHurls I think the title is absolutely perfect because I'm aware of the 10 minute length that is highly (extremely) favored by the algorithm. Someone is willing to take the risk and go against that? Yes, I'll watch your video about de-centering tech.
So much of unnecessary music at end Which itself gives people anxiety Your voice was not audible whereas music was loud Idk wouldn’t recommend anyone this kind of basic content
Love your frames . Feels very refreshing. Also great ideas put together! I've started writting my thoughts, ideas, lessons , revelations or anything i could possibly write , on a small a6 note so i have something to read or do when i have a quick break. The note goes with me everywhere and it feels soo nice to have a physical space for my thoughts and such
yeah thats a sick idea bro, I do that too, a little pocket notebook that I take everywhere. I think the more you can replace the jobs the phone does with the physical option the better
I actually utilised that flip phone idea back in 2019 when preparing for college entrance exams, it was very effective until in my second preparation year COVID hit and every thing turned digital, got depressed lost track of online classes, assignments and things
these can be helpful but they dont get at the problem that eventually makes us coming back every time, its what to do instead in those moments of boredom or stress
that's true. I'll definitely do a video on that next, but in short I guess you have to ask yourself a few things. The first is why it actually matters to be bored. I think so many of us spend so much time escaping boredom, but if we actually just embraced it and sat with ourselves when we were bored, our brain would come up with a thousand things for us to do that weren't scrolling. Then in terms of stress its useful to come up with better coping strategies, I'll also do a video on stress at some point but things like meditation, exercise, reading all do a better job at alleviating stress than doomscrolling which activates your sympathetic nervous system and leaves you in a state of agitated hypertension for hours. Thank you for the comment brother, definitely some future video ideas there ❤️🙌
I would suggest finding a hobby or diving into something you've wondered. Maybe search up a theory video or iceberg. For me, I'm a Christian but I wanted to understand why I believe vs being told to. Informing yourself on something you care about is so cool after you've done it and kind of proven to yourself what you're capable of accomplishing.
@@TomHurlsDude I can't frking control it, I know I should stop, but fr tho, I have no clue how, I know I need to ask for help, but that literally means death in my family, so yeah
what keeps me coming back personally is the fear of missing out on new book recommendations and creative inspiration from my favourite creators on tiktok
It's been a month since I deleted all my social media apps. Slowly I stopped being addicted to social media. Now I have more time to be more productive than ever before. In 6 months I'll be a better version of myself.
I liked this... I am not addicted to my phone or TV at all... I have channeled my frustrations into music... I listen to an incredible amounts of radio and youtube music... I only use RU-vid as a social media platform... and I only pull out my phone during conversation when I am showing someone a picture of something I was explaining to them... sometimes I watch 30 minutes of videos a day... so this is what works for me... I meditate a lot to music... I also buy dvds and cds with ny extra money and give them out to people... I don't use any streaming sites besides RU-vid and RU-vid music... so someday I hardly ever look at screens and just meditate to music for hours... but this is just what works for me atleast
Yes very much a quality over quantity concept. For me, RU-vid is probably 75% edutainment, 10% educational, 5% work research, and 10% Friday night music videos. If you can compartmentalize why you consume certain types of media, the wasteful stuff goes away.
So much of unnecessary music at end Which itself gives people anxiety Your voice was not audible whereas music was loud Idk wouldn’t recommend anyone this kind of basic content
Amazing video mate, smartphone addiction is really frustrating and feels impossible to get over it. Hopefully these tips will help me out. Your content is very professional and clean. You're currently very underrated. I have subscribed to you, all the best for your YT journey 👍🏻
Amazing work man! Keep these videos coming , I love the cinematography (and color grading too) and the way you talk about it, even in this short format :)
This video is so well done, you put some real effort into making this. I like the vibe and the color grading. Keep going you'll be a big creator soon. Subbin to see you grow
Tom your videos are beautiful. I just discovered your channel and can't stop listening. Your voice is so calm and you speak beautifully. The bgm and your voice make it sound like poetry. Love it man. Keep it up.
I came here for the advice to listen to but got blown away by the direction of the video & storytelling. I'm want to (maybe) do some thing similar in video direction, story telling but this level of storytelling, direction, grabbing audience attention is just amazing. WAIT WAIT are you from the social media company cause you know how to grab attention of the people 😉
Yo bro !! 😭😭 Reading the font had got me stroke. Anyways! The lesson of your video is great. We often lose ourself under the influence of this distraction device. Also this is really addictive. Thanks for saving lives by making this video 💓
I deleted Instagram a year ago. I can't compete with them so I quit. Started to build my life for what it is. My suggestion would be, get busy in real life. Life will get much better.
The things which has helped me the most is limiting the time I'm allowed on social media. I put on a setting (there are apps if your phone doesn't have a setting) where I can only use twitter for 20 mins and Instagram for 10. This way, I only use it when it's really needed, on the toilet.
This video will change lives, and I'm not joking when I say that. Time to take back our control to be mindful and present in our lives, we're going to be alright loves 💗
try only using it on your laptop if youve got one and download 'unhooked' and 'hide youtube thumbnails', theyre pretty good chrome extensions that really help limit non-intentional use
@@TomHurls I've been considering the extensions, but I don't have time to sit down on the pc nowadays. On the other hand, when I have time I only browser the Watch later, so I don't trap myself into a doom scrool
I love this. I have a nokia flip that I've switched to a few times when I can manage it. Truly wish my job and school didn't require the use of a smartphone for a 2 factor authentication method. I'd be on the flip full time if they didn't.
Hey brother, I started watching your content recently and we really appreciate your effort and consistency. Your videos have something that the other red pill, self-improvement dipshits don’t have-authenticity. I hope your videos can help even more people. Just promise me one thing: never be like those red pillers. Just be truthful to your core values and never let materialism get ahead of you. You don’t need to make money by exploiting us like the usual red piller stuff. I hope your videos help even more people. To me, you are more masculine than all those red pillers combined.
@@TomHurls Tom, could you make a video on how men today are facing an identity crisis regarding what is considered masculine and what is not? Also, it would be great if you could address how certain RU-vidrs are exploiting men's insecurities and how they are brainwashed to see women as an object. This topic is quite controversial, but it would be great to hear your thoughts and suggestions on the matter. We would like to know ur opinion on what is to be masculine.
for sure brother. the idea of what it is to be a man is definitely one I've been wanting to make a video on, because I think the 'manosphere,' has got it all wrong. I've got a couple videos in the list before it, but it'll definitely be one i make within the next couple weeks
I watched this video 5 days ago and I came back to report if this acutally works for me. I want to be honest I didn't do the monochrome colours, set it to minimalistic and I didn't delete all of my social media apps (just a few). But what I did is setting a 15 minute limit for social media apps a day (in the apple screentime settings) and it works great for me! That way i can still look at the posts my friends send me without getting into the doomscrolling. I also turned off notifications for most apps and turned off vibration. I'd also like to point out that I actively notice the extra time that I have left for doing better things than being on my phone. So concluding I believe this actually works. I really feel happier. Maybe its just the feeling that I know that I could let go of the doomscrolling or maybe its really that I have time for better things to do now. Last week I was on reddit and tiktok for an entire 14 hours! This week It was only 5 hours with the time limit being on for only a few days now. 10/10 would recommend.
Deleted all from meta. I still have signal for necessary private communication, snapchat for some social media. Reddit and x i use but really just 1-2 times in a day.
I just started this process before watching this video. It's been 3 days since and I have reduced my screen time from around 4/5 hrs somedays even 6/7 hrs to now lesser than 2 hrs. I am keeping this target for now. Let's see how this goes. My main goal is getting to just 15/30 min a day. I'll update my results weekly or monthly let's see. Edit 1- August month daily avg usage 3hrs 23 min. I almost halved it from 6/7 hrs to 3.5 hrs.
I don't use social media. What do you want me to do in my free time once I delete RU-vid? Books are great, but they cost money, and I’m not really a reader. After I'm done studying, I'm not sure what to do when sitting alone.
meditate, read free PDFs online, go for a walk, hang out with your friends, run, lift weights, try learn an instrument, listen to music, watch a movie, write in a journal, try creating something, draw, make a video, go to a calisthenics park, learn a new recipe, go help out a charity, talk to a homeless person, bring them some cooked food, learn something new on wikipedia, watch a documentary, pursue a purpose or goal, do a crosswork or a sudoku, take a cold shower, stare at the ceiling or out the window and think, there's lots to do
Had that exact Nokia for over a year, then it just died, refused to turn on, refused to charge. Couldn't find a cheap battery replacement, and I figured it was a bigger issue as it wouldn't react when it was plugged in. I miss it a lot, now I have some CAT phone that's more durable for running, but I liked Nokia better.
i still have a problem since i got an ipad at the age of 8 i'm constantly on youtube every day i never had a day since then without youtube except if the whole day was planned with like an event or hike now i'm 18 but i can't imagine how else i would fill that massive time gap which is basically the whole day
Thats why i use youtube website instead of the youtube app beacuse the website is based on pull model while the app is based on push model (website and app not the content). App pushes the shorts. Website not.
