Dbfz players built a very fundamental skill that no other fgc pros bothered with, which is mastering cheese on top of fundamentals. You can see it super clearly with nitro in grand finals. He was being super risky and developed extreme momentum, using a cheese character like Jack-o. People might say it’s mashy and scrubby, but if it was that simple, it would get snuffed out super early on. It’s about mixing the flowchart autopilot cheese with your momentum and knowing when to apply it, then knowing when to switch off from it and play manual perfect fundamentals. A street fighter only player that’s obsessed with footsies would have no chance at thriving in an anime fighting game without switching their mentality, while a dbfz pro only needs to adjust certain aspects of their style. We all learned perfect neutral and fundamentals when Vegito was clapping cheeks left and right, and we all learned cheese when UI Goku dominated.

@@WithBeautyAndWithLove aint gonna lie bro, it was def not cheese lol. As someone who plays Jack-O, that man’s micro and macro decisions were completely on point. That was all pure skill, especially against a top 5 character like Sol who explodes you and had good mix. He had good resource management, good neutral, good pressure, great everything. DBFZ def developed those parts of his gameplan, but thats nearly every FG.
