In law there's something called parole which is forgiveness given to a person found guilty of a certain crime.The judge passes judgement e.g of 50 years with possible parole after maybe 15 years or 20years.That means after serving those years and observations show that one is not a danger to others, then he/she can be given parole as per the sentence.I think that is what happened to your grandpa.Keep off those people.
