Shammi Kapoor owed a great deal of his career to Mohammed Rafi saab (1924-1980). Here's a little trivia for you: the song "Dil Ke Jharonke" from Brahmchari (1968) gave Rafi saab his 5th Filmfare Award. From "Jawaniya Yeh Mast Bin Piye"- Tumsa Nahin Dekha (1957) to "Tum Mujhe Bhula Na Paoge - Pagla Kahin Ka (1970), Rafi saab breathed life into every song lip synched by Shammi Kapoor. Gentlemen, God bless you both!

Shammi Sahib..I grew up watching your movies...ab age ho gayee hai..aaj ke actors me woh baat woh jazba bhee nahi..I am in San Francisco for the last 30 years now.miss India and miss watching actors who were passionate about their work and singers like Rafi Sahib whose voice can not be ever replaced by anyone..Gold Bless you with long life..

Shams sir , how are you ? In which channel do you remain active sir ? Sir , it's sad that when the video was made , Shammi Kapoor sahab , the 'soul' very soon reunited with his 'voice' Mohammed Rafi sahab after 31 years 2 weeks . Sir , I am also a true Rafian like you . One & a half year ago , I had watched a film named 'Dil Tera Deewana (1962)' which was a very beautiful movie of Shammi Kapoor sahab , having beautiful songs by Mohammed Rafi sahab . This association will never be forgotten . & yes sir , I am doing my studies as well . That was the last film I watched after which I quitted watching films . 🙂

The film Dil tera diana was seen many times by me. There are several unique songs rendered by Lataji and Rafisaab and tuned by SJ duo in that film. shammi ji, u were rather u still r a person who can channelize any sentiment in the role, especially in songs. certainly, every mind and soul would express the same way what u did ever as a justice to every song. that was the only and one way how any those songs of urs wud have been to be picturised. u r the ultimate for those songs.... why ppl like u and rafi sahab pass away even physically. oue generation is lucky to listen but very unlucky to experience u enlived...

Shammi Kapoor used to make sure with the film director that all his songs must be sung by Mohammad Rafi. i.e. there is no other option but exclusivity of Rafi. This was indeed true in more than 90% of his movies. Rafi sang for Shammi in Skakti Samanta's "Kashmir ki kali" in 1964. The music director was O P Nayyar. After that movie O P fell out with Rafi so in 1967 Shakti in his next movie for Shammi "An evening in Paris" had no option but to appoint Shankar Jaikishan in place of O P to accomodate Rafi.

I do not speak Hindi also. but I think he said that on his way to the temple a man up to him and said "mr shammi you have lost your voice".shammi told him "i have not lost my voice ,come to the temple and you will hear me sing devotional songs'.the man replied that he heard it announced on the radio that rafi had died.
