Madonna was HUGE back then. If Lady Gaga had been around then, she would've hit her career stride one day and been blown out of the water by Madonna the next day. Lady Gaga will never be as big as Madonna was.

Peter Schofield you have it backwards ..sure the image amplified it but if you know her history her record company put fuck all behind her. If anything the songs hold up today and there is rich history of hard work and grafting.

You know with Like A Virgin . I was going on 14 yrs old when it came out if this song didn't come out. I might have killed myself fact was I was rape never gave in. This song taught me I was still a virgin then behind what I went threw . Madonna Thanks for Like A virgin. You clearly have no idea just how famous Madonna and Michael Jackson were in the 80s and they did it all before internet. Imagine if there was digital streaming in the 80s?! Gaga will never sell as many physical copies as Madonna has, not even close. Madonna will have to stop first before anyone has a chance
