Using stadium's storage box to store mons from red, then starting a new game and instead of using one of the 3 starters i could transfer any mon from stadium as a custom starter for a unique run.
Not a favourite story. But in Ruby I caught a shiny Taillow, and didn't realise it was. I named it in full capitals, for some reason. And then I tranferred it to Diamond. Only once it was in Diamond did I realise it was shiny. And I couldn't rename it. So, even though I've now brought it all the way through to Shining Pearl, it's still can't be renamed. So it will forever be named AERIAL, as if I'm shouting it. Which kinda ruins it for me. I learned my lesson with my second shiny, a Wooper named Moonshine, from HeartGold, who currently lives in Scarlet.
Not sure if it counts, but trading my GBA Pokemon into Colosseum for use in Mt Battle, in order to gain access to the Ho-oh in gen 3 was great Apart from that, cloning and then transferring my team from HeartGold into White 2, and then using them in the Unova World Tournament to battle and beat Red for the second time was spectacular!
Transferring a Pokemon from Gen 3 all the way to the Switch is still amazing. Really hope that TPCi doesn't cut that off anytime soon...glad that they are keeping Bank and Transporter up after the 3DS online shutdown.
I’ve been trying to go back through and beat one game from each generation (3,4,5) so I can create a funnel path to where I can transfer things from emerald to HOME and G5 is taking an eternity because Exp is impossibly grindy in that game.
I'm really hoping that it's a trick of the light, and it's actually orange showing that it's plugged in and charging. ... Is what I thought, until I went back and plugged in my own lite, only to be reminded that the charging light is *adjacent* to the power light. 😬
I would've prefered Gen 6 and 7 to have built in, in-game, transfer methods personally. Bank is fine, and I wouldn't have had any problems with it if they just ported Bank onto the Switch so you could connect to the same storage and transfer games through that way, but Pokemon Home was just a scummy move. "We have this subscription service for storing and transfering pokemon, should we port it to switch?" "No let's make a WHOLE NEW subscription service for storing and transferring pokemon, charge people double for it if they want to transfer from the old service and then make the old service go out of commission in a few years."
As convenient as Home and Bank are, I really hate how the services are stuck online, meaning when they inevitably go down, whole generations of games will just be isolated and unable to transfer to the next. I hope they at least port the older games so that this can be (very slightly) mitigated, but the system is really worrying for the long term.
Oh I agree, and I will have more thoughts on that concerning Bank in the very next video. Unless Pokémon releases a solution to this, which they very likely won't, it does create some really bad long-term effects.

Gen 4's Dual Slot feature and the Gen 5 crossbow game were so fun! I really wish transfering could be fun again. Or at least rewarding like RS Box and Ranch.
Transferring from generation to generation is a truly glorious thing. Pokémon over 10, 15 or even 20 years old, can thrive in today's world rather than being stuck in past, unable to exist and battle alongside newcomer species. The day Bank and Transporter cease to function will be a sad day indeed. 20 years of transferring will cease to function, only working between the 3rd to 5th Generations since they didn't require an online app. Sure, the transfer process between those older games was tedious with having to play these time-consuming minigames in order to complete the transfer, but again, you didn't need an online-required app to make it function.
The first time I ever completed the Pokédex was in Pearl, and it was a Living Dex. For whatever reason, I decided to include the Pokémon I used on my actual team as part of the Living Dex. This meant that when I transferred forward my Living Dex to future generations, I transferred forward my team too. I have regretted that for years. I didn't feel comfortable catching and training up some kind of replacement team or restarting the file, so it was left in a kind of limbo where I had no Pokémon to use. My only Pokémon left from back then is a level 30-ish Noctowl I used as a Flyer. The Pokémon I used on my team (along with the rest of the Living Dex I had put together) sat in Bank for years, but just last year I experimented with hacking my 3DS (for completely unrelated reasons), but one thing I did very early on was use PKSM to send them back to Pearl. It's not 100% perfect (Poké Transfer permanently overwrites the Met Location and Met Date, so that can't be recovered. You can manually edit to something plausible if you prefer that, but I haven't done so.), but I am glad to have them back.
I feel that! One clip in this video I hovered over a Shiny Haxorus which I kinda sent up by accident! I was going to keep the Nature Preserve Haxorus from Black 2 in that game for the Pokemon World Tournament, but as I was filming, I didn't realize till it was too late that I used my copy of Black 2 and not my copy of White I had on the table to the side that I meant to transfer from! Living Dex is a really fun, great undertaking, but I'm with you on that I couldn't use actual team members I've grown attached to for it. They really deserve to stay in actual use in the games you'd like to use them. Glad you managed to get a workaround to get them back!
I always transfer my team to next generation, otherwise I feel they are "left" behind. What I always do with them is getting ready for competitive combat. So my available competitives are also my older game's teams. I really like to see that "Swampert, Hoenn Champion" message when I use my first pokemon 😄
The ability to transfer pokemon BACK a generation with home is really nice specifically because of the evolutions locked in Legends Arceus. If you caught a shiny Rowlet in SV you can transfer it into PLA to evolve it into a Hisuian Decidueye and then transfer it back. Same with Ursaring. You can't evolve it into Ursaluna in Scarlet, but you can transfer it into PLA and evolve it there.
I found it interesting how the Switch has gens 1,4,8, and 9 ready to play. The 3DS however has access to VC 1, VC 2, Gen 3 remakes, the entirety of Gen 4,5,6, and 7.
Here's to hoping they announce a huge gameboy port coming. If they released the first 3 gens on switch hardware (ESPECIALLY gen 3) they would actually make so much money, it's pretty silly to not at this point; to me it seems like a lot of profit for just a working port
i have some long and crazy transfer stories that i dont really have time to comment right now, but i do want to say im one of those people that used the first stadium game to take pictures of my mons. i even printed out stickers a couple times at the pokemon snap stations. my stadium games also preserved the pokemon i had stored in them when my gb game batteries started to die. one of my "long ridiculous transfer storries" happens to involve one of these batteries dying MINUTES before i was able to store an umbreon into stadium 2, and i got so upset that i learned gen 2 arbitrary code execution just to bring him back.
I love how, for Gen 9, Pokémon are allowed to go through Gens 8 and 9 without any issue, as long as it existed before. So you can bring, per say, your Blaziken from Indigo Disk over to Sword and Shield or BDSP and viceversa without issue. Something not possible in the DS and 3DS games, where transferring to a future gen is a one way path.
My favourite use of transferring has been the result of a bit of a happy accident honestly. Since the beginning, I was a lv1 collector in Go. I have a very big collection there, including a boatload of shinies. I've been transferring them over to Home, so now I have for example a lv1 shiny Tyranitar sitting in my box in Home. Very cool stuff
Yes, as someone who has a living dex all the way from XD Gale of Darkness (my first Pokémon game), it's nice to see/hear about other people's experience with the transfer features. And your final point about how amazing it is that GF kept this feature going for decades now really is understated. Yes, the recent games have a lot of issues, but for all the things they juggle with when comes to transfer compatibility and balancing Pokémon as a competitive multiplayer game, all done at an unreasonable pace from release to release, it's insane how we end up getting a new game at all as frequently as we do. Now, I'm not praising the way they work on these, they should have more time to make their games, but given the circumstances, the team at GF does received more hate than I think they should.
Also, one thing I dislike about current transferring is how some special event/gift Pokémon now seemingly lose special moves that they don't usually learn. So that leaves my shadow Lugia without its special moves it could only get from that game. At least, I really enjoy the feature of titles in the newer games. It makes my Pokémon with a whole bunch of ribbons feel even more special!😊
I've been stalling, but eventually, I'd like to transfer my starter from Pokémon. Ruby all the way up to omega ruby To get that Certificate, so let's pretty neat! Edit: i forgot to mention I've gotta do this sooner than Later because I doubt that pokemon is gonna keep pokemon banks servers up for much longer...
I forgot about that certificate! I like that they included that little easter egg for people who brought a Pokemon between those games, just those little bits of recognition that are nice
@AzureFlute yeah! I hope they do something like that in the black and white remakes! They could even have a different certificate for a Pokémon transferred from the dream world or Pokémon dream radar.
I remember encountering Heatran for the first time and I LOVED it’s purple eyes! Found out years later that it’s a shiny 😂 when i saw a normal one and thought it was the shiny 😅

I did enjoy the little mini game that made of it from Gen 3-4 and gens 4-5. Transporter, Bank and Home are very useful and time saving, and I love how I can transfer back to Gen 8 from Scarlet and Violet, but they're not fun, the Pokémon basically completely change, and one day, they won't even be accessible.
Honestly I've been playing pokemon since around the time gold and silver came out, and I started with red. Sad that I couldn't in gen 3, but gen 3 is where I spent the most of my childhood honing my pokemon skills and collection. Fire red, emerald, ruby and sapphire, and of course the pair of gamecube games that became some of my favorites. Thats when I crafted my long standing multi platform team that I took to every game, and collected as many ribbons as possible. They changed as I did as a player, and were very important to me above all other parts of my collection. They were with me through all the bumps of the rough transfer possess. But sadly before they could finally arrive in home, someone robbed me of my game collection for drug money, including my ultra sun with the most valuable members of my collection, including my original team and playthrough teams. A few had clones in my gen 4 copies because I learned cloning in emerald, but it wasn't the same since some were not cloned and gone forever. So in 2022 I started rebuying the stolen games and recrafting my original team all the way back in gen 3 using emerald and XD. They won't be the same entirely, but they will carry the legacy onwards into switch once they start moving. So honestly I've had a ton of experience with the transfer possess, and sadly I'll be starting it all over again to regain everything, but I'm glad pokemon did it in the first place. Not how I wanted to experience this feeling again, and it won't entirely be the same, but its also fun in its own way. Now if only home kept legacy moves on the switch lol I had a lot to say, but honestly this topic covers so much of my childhood, and I do love talking about it.

Man if I owned the physical hardware for older generations I'd love to transfer a single pokemon through a bunch of games to amass all of the champion ribbons possible. Pretty sure it's every region except kanto and unova that would be recognized.
That's basically right. The Gen 3 League ribbon is shared between all Gen 3 games, so it doesn't matter whether the victory comes from FireRed or Emerald, the ribbon is the same. And since Unova didn't do anything with Ribbons it didn't include a League Ribbon either. I did something similar to what you mentioned with a team I bred in Kalos. I brought the team members to different games to get ribbons for winning that games' League as long as they are allowed into the game. It's pretty cool!
I loved transferring up my Pokémon until the switch games game out. Dexit was my first issue. I couldn’t bring everyone. And now it’s the resetting of the moves. I have a lot of event Pokémon that will lose their uniqueness if I bring them over to the newer switch games. Most of my best transfers have stayed in ultra moon. I have brought some over to SWSH since they can still keep their moves… if the move is still available. I wish the newer games still allowed their old move sets to stay and just reset them if you were competing like SWSH did. Oh well. For now my Pokémon stay safe.
It is sad about dexit. I transferred nearly all of my teams up from gens 1-7 into home recently. I don't have access to a switch at the moments but its sad to see all my teams will be split up and spread out across all these games. The only ones I didn't transfer are gen 5 because I'm keeping them in b2 and waiting for a remake/legends game where I can just use the same team to get them up to date
Most of my pokemon are still in Gen 7 because of the move bullshit. I hate that I can't bring my TRU Arceus to Legends Arceus and see it use Roar of Time. ... oh wait, I can! The BOSS Arceus uses the special moves during the overworld fight! It's bullshit, but at least it was remembered in heart.
Since the beginning of pokemon bank, I've felt very uncomfortable to not be able to transfer in-game I always had the feeling that one day you can't transfer your pokemon from the most enjoyable games...
I may be an adult now. But I still love Pokémon games, even replaying the gen 1 GB games was a blast despite being pretty rough in some aspects. I really like the ability to store the majority of your memories of past journies in a safe place. Even with the Dex Cut of gen 8 you can still store almost all Pokémon in one single place and in a more practical and "modern" way. Even if I dont like suscription services for some features, I still stand that in the point of transfering stuff from a game to another was a huge step up that I think a lot of people dont aprecciate.
Yeah! I think most can agree there's more they could be doing, and better than how they're doing, but it's still insane to me that any franchise has had this level of legacy support for this long across so many different titles.
This feature alone made me go back and buy all the old games just to get ribbon master pokemon. and now im racing against the clock. Im going to miss it when this option is gone. but i will have my friends and their ribbons to show for it.
I've transferred a lot of shinies from go to home and it's annoying they have such a small limit to how many you move at a time. Only about 5 shinies per week unless it's a shiny legendary then it's just the 1
I was 9 when pokémon stadium came out, I remember my friend telling me about the transfer feature and I would not believe him. I had to see it with my own eyes and I went crazy lmao
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Relocator from Black and White, that was used to transfer event Celebi and the shiny legendary beasts from the Zoroark movie, as well as the unreleased event item, Lock Capsule, from the gen 4 games to Black and White. It's a pretty well-hidden feature locked behind time-limited event Pokemon, but transferring them this way is -required- one of the ways to trigger certain events in Black/White involving Celebi and a free gift Zorua in Castelia City, as well as the shiny legendary beasts and a catchable Zoroark in Lostlorn Forest. It was a pretty sweet find back in the day! Oh, and the Lock Capsule just unlocks TM95 Snarl in Black/White (which was otherwise unobtainable in those games, only becoming available through regular gameplay in the sequels)
I completely missed the Relocator! I forgot about it because it's such a niche connection method that I haven't used it since the one time when Black and White first came out!
You don't need to transfer them via Relocator to activate the respective in-game events. The Relocator exists to do that during your playthrough and not having to wait after you beat Ghetsis.
@@enoyna1001 Ahh, I'll admit that I never actually tried to do so, since yeah, you unlock the Relocator first (and I never had a reason to try it the other way) It's definitely required for the Lock Capsule event, at the very least.
I was genuinely upset when they announced that not every Pokémon would be able to be transferred to Sword and Shield. I had been transferring my Pokémon up through the various generations up to this point (I've been playing since Gen 3 with FRLG), so the fact that I wouldn't be able to play with them in the new games made me sad. I flat out refused to move them up to HOME cuz what would the point have even been? Luckily now nearly every Pokémon is programmed into at least one of the Gen 8 or 9 games (the exceptions being Patrat, Watcchog, Furfrou, and the Elemental Mokleys), so I have since transferred over most of my old Pokémon. Still looking for my original FireRed Venusaur though...
I managed to get a shiny Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Mew in generation one and put the in gen 7. I never thought I was gonna be able to get a shiny kanto mew, so I was excited when the VC games came out. And the crystal VC included the celebi event that wasn’t released my my country originally and I was able to get a shiny Celebi. I hope bank stays open for many more years so I can get the johto starters in their original games some day.
This is THE best feature in this franchise, which is why it is a crime that they have moved to these softwares that will be closed eventually and all those games will be locked and lost to time. It is so unfortunate. A dream come true would be for Pokemon company to release an alternative to keep the doors open between gens 5-9 somehow, like making a change to Bank, transfer etc that it can be used completely offline/with wireless communication so it can be used wothout them having to maintain a server. I would not be satisfied with them rereleasing gens 1-7 in virtual console manner on the switch and say that this way we can connect with these games again. While that would be cool too, I want to be able to connect with my old games. I was to distribute cool events in Gen3, go catch Deoxys, clone it to get multiple and distribute them to every gen as many times as I want. Etc.
Pokemon Dream Radar is something you completely missed, which makes sense but still. Also I'm currently 1 Ribbon Away from being able to finish the gen 6 Section of an ORAS caught Shiny Milotic's Ribbon Master Challenge, and I'm hoping I can finish the stupidly hard Super Singles Battle Maison 50-Streak. I'm then gonna work on it alongside a Shiny Hakamo-O/Kommo-O and a Shiny Kyogre (which I'll hunt at some point) in USUM, and then finish with anything switch era probably at a later time because I'm not wanting to do the BDSP Battle Tower at all. It crashed a few times on me when I was actually trying to beat it, causing me to lose a streak. Don't wanna deal with that again, but if there's ribbons attached to it, so be it
You caught me! To be honest, I despise Dream Radar. I recently replayed it for my Living Dex by getting the genies through it I didn't cover it mostly because I like to forget 😂 but you're right, I did miss it! As well as the Pokéwalker and a few other smaller things that could count. Best of luck with your ribbon challenge! @@AzureFlute thanks! I'm specifically using a Pokemon caught in gen 5/6 as my starting point just because it means I don't have to get any of the insane ribbons from gens 3 or 4, which is especially useful since I don't have all the games I'd need I think for those gens
I really think the whole Home-Bank situation was a joke from day 1. If they wanna replace Pokemon Bank with Pokemon Home, fine, but then Home should be installable on the 3DS and directly compatible with the 3DS titles and ideally also with the DS titles. And it also examplifies how bad this whole console generation thing works with the Pokemon franchise. Especially with Nintendo's habbit of dropping support for old hardware asap. On PC or smartphone, this problem wouldn't exist at all.

I used to love bringing my pokemon forward. Unfortunately i really just dropped off once they stopped letting me use the pokemon i want. Honestly just feels like a slap in the face as someone who had been collecting pokemon for well over 15 years. I'll just leave em in gen 6 since they were the last games with a national dex. I don't really feel like im missing out anyway. I really disliked the direction if gen 7 and it only appears that each subsequent game after gen 6 has been made in direct opposition of how i feel about pokemon games. But it's whatever, series just isn't made for me anymore.

I'm currently grinding to beat pokemon black, so i cna transfer from my leafgreen, and fill out the living dex through all the games. I'm also trying to wonder trade ALOT before 3ds is shut down.
You won't be able to Transfer to black unless you have Diamond pearl heartgold soul silver Believe me, I thought I could do the same thing. But I did some research and apparently pal park is only on those games 😭
It did, but if you have a Nintendo ID account with 3DS software tied to it you can still redownload until April (when general online services except for Bank and Transporter shut down; those two shut down at an unknown later date) If you don't have that, the homebrew scene has allowed you to access Bank and Transporter as well.
Hopefully they bring these games to the switch or the next console because otherwise anything from Gen 1-7 will soon be lost to time now. Sure we have BDSP and Let's Go, but those aren't quite the same nor do they really compare to their predecessors at all lol. I really hope they realize what they're actually doing cutting off so many generations of Pokemon games.
Modded my DSi to download saved files online of all 500+ legit pokemon to transfer over to a legit copy of a gen 5 game, then transfer that to Bank. The rest is up to you 😅
Remeber when you could have any pokemon in newer games and there was this thing called a national dex? Now you can just transfer up pokemon you can already get in the game so it kinda lost a lot of it's appeal.
Not strictly true anymore; in Scarlet and Violet, there's actually a TON of Pokemon that are not catchable or otherwise obtainable in either version, unless you trade it from someone else, or transfer it through Home. Specifically, most of the Pokemon introduced in Legends Arceus, their forms are only obtainable in that game, but they can still be transferred into SV (like Sneasler, the Hsiuian Zorua line, and the Hsiuian starter evolutions). Even some Pokemon from Galar and Alola aren't catchable or obtainable in SV, but their variants *are*, so they can be transferred too (like Alolan Raichu, Galarian Weezing, or the Galarian legendary birds) I mostly only know this because I wanted to surprise my friend when we did some pvp, using transfer-exclusive pokemon that they weren't expecting lol.
Fair, but I think some perspective is important. I do not believe any developer, no matter how large, could continue to support an ever-growing and dauntingly large amount of what are effectively playable characters in an RPG roster as the series continues. Years down the line I think it would be extremely unreasonable to expect 1500, 2000, or more Pokémon to all be in one game. How they did the cut is certainly messy and worth criticism, as I said, though we do need to be realistic. As far as charging $16, it isn't quite that simple. Keep in mind Bank before going free was *always* $5 a year, you had no free option. Home has a free option with limited storage so you can still transfer without paying anything. And it has more features than Bank ever did as well. Bank doesn't have 3D model viewer, or GTS and Surprise Trading like the mobile version of Home does, Home has double the storage of Bank when using the paid option, and Home allows for moveset editing when transferring between games, and Bank requires a game to be utilized to access whereas Home doesn't require a game just to go in and view your storage. This is just to name a few things. I get it, trust me, Home is not perfect and neither was how they handled going into the Switch era in general, though I feel a lot of the negative talking points that have spread around over the last few years really should have deeper context than a quick one line complaint. There's so much more to it than that.
@@AzureFlute if they never had transfer in the first place no one would be mad about it being downgraded so heavily. If they can change the deal to make it far worse and we are playing on their ecosystem and have no power. Partial transfer feels very much "have your cake and eat it too" for their benefit and our detriment. The amount of time it will take to get 2000 or even 1500 is a very very long time potentially after the singularity so, the "it had to be done eventually" doesn't satify me. People talk of being realistic but realistically how much resources would take to make a national dex patch for every switch game? How little time did it take to make completed new animations and models for all the Pokémon in XY compared to how long the Switch has been out?
@@alphamarigi I don't think it had to be done eventually, I think it had to be done now. Why is 1500 too many but 900 is not? 900 is an absurd amount of models to make and animate in any sort of HD scenario. Where is the cutoff for you where it's suddenly okay to not include everry single pokemon? 1000? 1100? 1200? This is the frog in a bot of heating water scenario. Adding an extra 50-80 pokemon every gen doesn't seem that crazy but eventually is becomes crazy. I think the devs suddenly having to start making console games while the roster was between 5 and 6 times larger than the first games seems like a reasonable point to place the "singularity". I personally think the games should never have gone 3D at all specifically for this reason, and just stuck to having a 3D box/battle sim game come out every gen. Like when they showed XY I was immediately worried that suddenly Pokemon was less future-proof. And 2 gens later that worry was founded and it sucked. I just don't know what arbitrary number people have in their head for when they'd personally be ready to forgive Game Freak for a Dexit. I don't love how the whole situation went down either, but it's a logistical nightmare at this point. Game Freak CANNOT, under any circumstances, delay their products. There are a billions of dollar of toys in production, an anime, trading cards, that all rely on these games coming out to sell. This is the largest franchise in the world, and due to weird circumstances, the parts of the franchise that make the most money are all relying on the least profitable product to come out in order to exist. This is largely a logistical problem, and a problem caused by The Pokemon Company spinning 400 different plates at once and not being able to let the game plate stop spinning for fear of causing all the other plates to fall. I guess ultimately it doesn't matter WHY the games have had these issues come up. The issues negatively affect the game regardless of what's causing them. But people do always bring the devs into this conversation when complaining about the games, so it's only fair to talk about them in a more complete way, imo.

Cross-gen transfers are cool but Home.... Is very disgusting, I honestly don't know how Ilca got away with it You're paying 15 dollars per year to store like..... Not even a megabyte of data like ffs, storage services like Google Drive are literally free and could store every single Pokemon you catch until you die of old age
