Synopsis
Slow-witted Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and thanks to his supportive mother (Sally Field), he leads anything but a restricted life. Whether dominating on the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam or captaining a shrimp boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism. But one person Forrest cares about most may be the most difficult to save -- his childhood love, the sweet but troubled Jenny (Robin Wright).

This movie makes me cry because Forrest faces life and Jenny runs from it, but people hate on her SO MUCH as if her life isn't full of trauma and violence since she was a kid. A life full of trauma can make you forget you deserve love.
@FrankFreezy_
@FrankFreezy_ 9 месяцев назад
I love this comment so much. So important. I had no idea some viewers hated Jenny till a good friend of mine told me yesterday. I was shocked! Her reasons for running away from life are very legit and understandable. Like you said its trauma-based. Makes you feel like you don't deserve good things and to be loved. The scene where she almost unalive herself was so heartbreaking.

Something I caught on my 2nd or 3rd time through; Jenny still ran to Forrest AFTER she goes to live with her grandmother. No one seems to question that.
@koristrange9655
@koristrange9655 9 месяцев назад
Jenny was "taught" thinking love was what her father did to her - so any feelings of real love was something she didn't understand. All the men she was with were abusive because that's what she knew as love. The only thing she really felt was that running made her safe - hence whenever she tells Forrest to run, it's her purest form of love. She always runs away from Forest because she loves him. It's not till she has a Son and understands real love that she stays.

Gary Sinise, the actor that played Lt. Dan, was so affected by this role he became deeply involved in Veteran organizations. He started his own foundation for vets, The Gary Sinise Foundation. He also tours with the USO to active duty shows around the world with his band, The Lt. Dan Band.

Fun fact: the Alabama accent of the young actor playing young Forrest, is real. So real, that Tom Hanks decided to study that boys accent for a long time to get his older Forrest's accent to match the boy. I think I've seen this movie (and Sahwshank Redemption) over 100 times, and it never gets old. Beautiful story..glad you enjoyed it.

So many veterans wrote to Gary Sinise saying that his portrayal of what it’s like to be a Vietnam veteran spoke to their souls, that it permanently changed the trajectory of his life. Jenny apologised and married Forrest only after she found out she was dying had nothing to do with her getting her life together she just knew her son would be financially free for life and used him once again, she went through a lot of trauma as a kid but so did Forrest, he had no dad, his principal banged his mum in front of him, he was physically bullied everywhere he went, watched his best friend die in his arms cmon now. Forest did not deserve what she put him through that past trauma is not an excuse for the mental fuckery Jenny constantly put him through her whole life, I’ve watched this movie countless times over my life and she will never be forgiven in my eyes

It means so much to me to hear that you immediately grasped how forward Jenny was and the concept of consent. Because I read a theory that that particular scene was Jenny's turning point. Where she realized, maybe not intellectually but subconsciously, that what she'd done was mirroring her own abuse, and what pushed her over the edge into the downward spiral that she fought so hard to climb out of. I know that the time we get to see her with her stuff together is short, but I'm grateful we all still got to see that, because so many folks who've experienced a hard life don't get to have those kinds of experiences. I also just love your reactions, and it really speaks volumes about how empathetic and understanding you are. I wish there were more folks like you around. You seem very sweet. And bruh, so talented!! I hope you keep creating and loving and being you, and thank you so much for sharing your time with all of us. Thanks for sharing that. I really love that theory about Jenny and I can definitely get behind that. There was definitely a realization that happened there. I heard someone in the comments say they would love a movie from Jenny's point of view and I absolutely would love to watch that. Obviously it would be a sadder movie but such an important one. That might be what helps some people understand her trauma and stop hating her. You are far too kind. Hey Sully2001! Forrest Gump is 1 one of those movies that MOST people can connect with on an Emotional level (not just you)! And I love how Forrest showed the upmost loyalty to those closest to him! I think that is a character quality we can all admire, and try to apply in our own lives! For me Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my RU-vid channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. If you have a few minutes sometime and happen to be Interested, here is a link to the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Or-sIiNANYg.html If you don't check it out, then No worries at all! The scene with the hotel where the president resigned right after Forrest complained about the flashlights was a reference to the Watergate Scandal, in which Nixon had been caught having people illegally dig up information on his political opponents. The implication is that Forrest inadvertently uncovered corruption he was never aware of.

But I wa told by doctors that he would never speak at all or attend a mainstream school. This is exactly why it's critical for dads to teach their daughters what proper and healthy love looks like. In Jenny's case, she was deeply broken by her father, and in her mind, that's the only love she deserved. It wasn't until Forrest came into her life that she saw what true love is. He gave without ever expecting anything in return. Jenny's story is a tragic one, but I'm always glad that she got to experience that love from Forrest, however briefly.

My favourite part of this film is when he first meets Forrest Jr., he describes the encounter as seeing "the most beautiful thing [he'd] seen in [his] whole life." But he had just said that exact same thing about his first encounter with Jenny not a few hours before at the bus stop - he just fell in love with his son the exact same way he initially fell in love with Jenny. His next feeling is dreadful fear - for the first time, Forrest admits that he has always known he's not as bright as others. But he didn't admit it for himself - he admitted it out of fear for his son.

When they have tv commercials for this movie and talked about on entertainment channels it made my father laugh. He asked me when is it coming on? I told him it's at the theater, you want to go? He said no. But when it finally made it to Cable he laughed his butt off. I was happy he got to see a great film before he passed away.

32:32 Lieutenant Dan is like a protective father over forest and Bubba is always that one friend but he became a brother to forest like you said. Tom Hanks did an awesome job on playing a role with someone who has autism and I'm glad they did it accurately cause some of them doesn't and some of them do. this film just takes you on a rollercoaster of different emotions Edit:And like you said...everyone needs a friend like forest. its true

The last scenes crush me, Forrest meeting little Forrest, the wedding and Dan, then Jenny’s passing, this is the only movie to pull those emotions from me, be it watching the entire thing from the start, clips or a reaction, those moments tear me in half.

The interview with John Lennon is to show that Forest Gump gave him the inspiration for the lyrics for Imagine, arguably his greatest song. He says In China they don't believe in God and don't have possessions, where John repeats "No possessions? No religion too? It's easy if you try, Dick". "Imagine no possessions" "And no religion, too" "It's easy if you try"

16:29 Yes, when you first enlist, going through your basic training. Depending on your MOS (military occupational speciality) You're under contract to stay with the military from 4 to 6 years, depending on your mos. After that you can freely recontract with the military or just leave. Most people go ahead and do this because during your contract, you can go to college for free, depending on if the military covers it.

The guy at the schoolhouse who got shot was George Wallace. He was a governor from the deep south (Alabama specifically I think but I can't remember) who ran for President specifically on the issue of preserving segregation as he heavily disagreed with the recent moves in the nation to desegregate in the 60s. If there were ever a guy you did NOT want to be President, it was him. When he got shot, he almost died, and some of his most frequent visitors in the hospital were actually black community leaders who he had spent time belittling and insulting in public for opposing and speaking up against him. When he recovered, he changed his ways and used his power to completely dismantle segregation in his state as much as he could. He was governor until at least the 80s, and after his assassination attempt he was a progressive candidate who ran on equal rights. He's one of the few cases of someone in a position of power so strongly committed to racism coming around and working to undo the harm they did. It's a very interesting story. Edit: I also forgot to mention, he did not win the Presidency even though he survived lol. He stayed a governor and to my knowledge never ran again. So he is a very impoetant figure in American history but he was never President though he came close.

Is Freezy from Guyana? So the part of forest in Vietnam how we saved everyone? That's more than likely based on a real person that's now a deceased veteran, Roy Benavidez. Roy saved 8 out of 12 Men by jumping out of a helicopter through the jungle canopy without a weapon because he forgot it at chapel, was blown up and shot multiple times while fighting and saving eight men. He was pronounced dead, and as they were zipping him up in the bag he spat at the people that were zipping him up. He died in 1998 from complications of diabetes. Keep in mind he was shot, nearly disemboweled buy a bayonet, and was blown up. His pancreas was probably a little injured. In the movie, Forrest Gump was discharged of the highest rank of sergeant, the same rank as Roy Benavidez. The John Lennon scene, John Lennon's response is the lyrics for his song "Imagine". "Imagine all the people, no religion too". John Lennon was shot and killed outside of his apartment building in New York City by a deranged fan. Forest waking up in the middle of the night to the people with the flashlights is the Watergate scandal under Nixon. It's what Nixon ultimately resigned for. I'm not super familiar with it but I do believe people were planting bugs/wire taps so Nixon could get insider information. John f Kennedy was shot and killed in Texas, more than likely by the CIA, same thing with his little brother Rob F. Kennedy. This is also suggested by Rob F. Kennedy son Robert Kennedy Jr. John F Kennedy son, JFK Jr. died in a mysterious plane crash, after he checked in that he was going to land. His uncle Ted Kennedy made the Coast guard get involved that night. The next day, the Air Force took, why? No one knows because the air force is not the Coast Guard, it's believed that JFK Junior was going to get a to politics like the rest of the family and run for president, which would have gone against the bush family, and it was one of the Bush family's best friends that was the Air Force Commander that took over the search for JFK Jr.

I'm finding it interesting to learn about other cultures and always willing to comment and teach about ours as well. Of course everything is subjective but another thing about hippies they enjoy having fun
