Great job! I love your enthusiasm. I don't see how you have any downvotes... But I've noticed trolls in this business. Keep it up! I have the PD36R. I've been eyeing this LD30. Great comparison. Thank you for that!
I don’t know how Fenix does it! 800 Lumens was amazing just 5 years ago when I bought my first pd32. Now 1600 Lumens and at the price point sub $100(US). Makes an easy holiday gift idea.
I’ve been impressed by the lights you use and this one is no exception. I have an array of lights, from one brand, which I’ve not paid a cent for because they were based off of rewards points at a truck stop, many lights I’ve tried typically work well except that all have switches that are not good. A light that turns on when brushed over or put in a pocket is useless so your reviews of these lights regarding the switch is valuable to me.
Great review. I like how you describe the features. Being able to charge just the battery means you can easily have a spare battery with you at all times. Thank you.
After watching your outstanding review I clicked the link and ordered one. Thank You, and I really enjoy your videos. I have been an explorer / treasure hunter for many years, my son is back home I’ll, but when he’s back on his feet I’ll be hitting the road treasure hunting. I’m retired after 37 years of public service. God Bless
@@southern_merican yes I ordered one. My son ended up passing away from a brain tumor, he clasped one day and they discovered the tumor at the hospital.
Thank you for a very well done review I didn't skip forward any thats says a lot coming from me. I hope to get this for Christmas to replace my Fenix E-12 as EDC.
This is hands down, the best "floody" type EDC light you can get for $85 and below. At 800 lumen for high & 350 lumen for medium.. it's a bargain! (Turbo is nice but most time we use low / medium most often. So that's what I look for in lights. Turbo is nice but is irrelevant in the long run).
You all prolly dont care but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me
@Avi Creed i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Keep in mind, the advantages from a tactical self defense context, of having lower button protection tabs on tail cap. Fir me personally, the LD30 is far easier amd more ergonomic to turn it on, over the high tabs, like the PD35 that my LD30 replaced. For example, The Fenix TK11 TAC has no switch sides, and is considered a tactical Leo/military light...so if someone is looking for an amazing light that operates in a great edc, and quickly can be deployed without having to position your thumb the right way to clear the full length tabs, this self defense light, is amazing. If you need it to be able to stand in end, Fenix has many other options available. I have been using my LD30 for 2 years or so, I bought it when it first came out, and it has been amazing
Fenix is one of the few flashlights whose lumen claims I trust. Them and Olight. I have a TK21 which Fenix rates at 468 lumens. I've had it for about 7 or 8 years. I've seen the progress of LED efficiency with 1000 lumens now common. I recently bought a Klarus light rated at 1000 lumens and was disappointed because it put out just about the same about amount of light as the Fenix. I was expecting a lot more. Are there different rating systems or are Klarus just inflating their numbers?
This is a great comment. Did you ever get an answer to it? I have a Klarus G10 and it is rated at 1800 lumens. It is fairly impressive and possibly at the output they say, but I haven't tried anymore of their lights. I have always just stuck with Fenix
Nice review! I have a question - does this flashlight have a mode memory that works on turbo mode? If I leave ot on turbo can I turn it back in turbo mode using the end switch? Thanks!
At 3:45 if you had done that with my blue seeker 2 pro I would probably have passed out. Out wont even lie it down on an unprotected surfaca! Nice review. I have only been buying olight after trying several brands 1st. Olight just seems to appeal to me more. However seeing the PD36R and this one I may give them another try. The PD35 was my first "real" flashlight. I'm sure you know what I mean when saying "real." Does the trim ring around the button start to change color yet? It looks like copper or brass. Untreated the develop a green patina over time? Not trying to be nit picky. Thanks for this review. P.s. the Olight M2RPro Warrior I just bough has an excellent tail cap switch. Doent feel any different than my PD35 or different than my Klarus XT1GT. The M2r can stand on its tail cap due to it's beautiful all metal tail cap switch. 1800lumen on turbo on a 21700. $109 was a very price I think. Thanks again.
The TIR lens on the LD30 makes a huge difference. The beam profile has a tight hot spot and very wide spill. The spill of the LD is way wider than the PD.
You know who actually makes the battery that comes with the ld30? For 18650, I'd rather go with the major reputable brands, rather than the rewraps. However one of the reputable brands could have made this battery too. I see you have some of the brands I speak of, so have you tried out any of them in the light for comparison? I'm sure the 30A or higher rated battery would be the ones to use. This will be my first time going with a 18650 flashlight, and I think I'm going to go with this for my EDC work light based off your videos. Thanks
The Fenix LD30 is definitely a very good flashlight and I used it already for a couple of weeks and it was amazing. For indoor use not suitable because it gets quite hot but for outdoor use, during a foggy weather in the mountains and in the night, it was just the best flashlight I ever owned. Definitely recommend it. The battery is actually really amazing too but unfortunately the battery is only suitable for USB Recharging. Recharging it with a regular 18650 charger can be frustrating. I did a little experiment with and the battery needed over 3 hours to charge which is the exact amount of time that my diy 4s 4p battery pack with LG HG2 Lithium-Ion batteries would take to charge :P Probably it's some kind of protection or something like that
Hello! I watched your video from a couple of months ago when you detected a fairly new site and also one you had covered 4 years previously. If you changed to more sensitive detection equipment in the time between the 4 years ago and the 2 months ago outings, you might be duly disappointed not to have found more items. If however you have essentially the same equipment, you show that your experience had matured immensely from whenever you started to already 4 years ago..
Another example of a great review Charlie, you give details most don't think of that can be so important to those watching. Take care my friend, good luck and happy hunting Mary-Ellen LFOD
I would have liked to see how the flashlight looks in a front pant's pocket. What's the first setting for this flashlight? Does it go from high to low? Or low to high?
what's the best temperature ( color) for flashlights. one of my friends has a warmer temperature on theirs. I have this one and its obviously white blueish
HI!!!! A 1000 lumens Flashlight only for tactical use waterproof, rechargeable with taiswitch and small what would you recomend me? I have the M2 Warrior but its too big to EDC for me.
I prefer olight tbh I've had Fenix nite core a bunch all broke all my olights still good try olight baton pro or warrior mini both excellent flashlights sr2 is also great
Thank you for a great review. Can that flashlight use regular OTC alkaline batteries? Your drop test was not really a drop test but what are the flashlights rated at? How high on a hard surface? Again thank you
It's the overall best functioning flashlight I've ever owned, but it does have a MAJOR flaw that has been addressed in the slightly longer PD32 V2.0. The LD30 Tail switch protrudes past the button guard, such that it gets activated while clipped into my pants pocket. A couple times my pants nearly caught fire because turbo mode and even the high setting will catch cloth on fire. Truthfully, that turbo mode is more a liability than a benefit, it smokes cloth in less than 10sec. They are sending me a different tail switch for my LD30, which will hopefully solve my very dangerous issue. If not, I'm getting the PD32 V2.0. I believe the LD30 comes with one rechargeable Fenix 18650 battery, which has a built-in Micro-USB charging port. But, the PD32 V2.0 comes with no batteries. Get two of these batteries, so one is fully charged once your other one goes low. Best battery ever!
@@MemphisMojo15s It doesn't seem to matter how I turn it gets turned on from time to time and and it capable of catching your clothes ablaze. They're sending me a different body from the same model, but the guy in customer service measured the tail switch and it doesn't stick out past the guards nearly as much as mine. So, if his measurement is correct, they must have changed the tail switch along the way. He said if this one is no better, we'll figure something out. Beyond that issue, the LD30 is the best light I've ever owned.
@@cornpop7805 i really like that light and have been wanting it. Maybe i didn't explain myself correctly. If you twist it loose a 1/4 turn the button can't make contact if it is pressed. I pocket carry all of my lights now since i started loosening the tailcaps and I haven't had any of them turn on since i loosened the tailcap. Either way, that's good customer service from Fenix hands down. I hope you get it figured out soon. If they realize it's a problem, maybe they will start putting the double press lockout feature integrated into the mode switch like me E09R and E35 V3.0 lights. I love Fenix lights but there are always areas they can improve. Thanks for getting back woth me. PS I have burnt my leg and side and few times with lights turning on like that. It sucks
@@MemphisMojo15s The PD32 V2.0 might be a slightly better choice, if you can handle the 1/2" longer length. It has a recessed tail switch, which is still easy to operate, but addresses the pocket activations. It's 1200 lumens vs the LD30's 1600, but that 1600 lumens is impractical because it gets really hot really quickly! Also the PD32 V2.0 doesn't have a side switch, it has all It's functionality on the tail switch. I generally loose flashlights before they break, so my next one will likely be the PD32 V2.0.
I was looking at the LD30 and the E30R. I will now go with the LD30. LOVE the size, my PD35's are just a tad bit long for me to EDC all day long. The tail switch and the deep pocket clip are what I prefer most on my EDC light. You covered all the points I need to know. Great review! Thanks for your time and effort.
Thanks for the awesome review!! Finally found the perfect flashlight for me. Went and ordered one on amazon. 👍🏼 Update: Received it today!! Went through the lumens, oh boi!!! This thing is AMAZING!! It might be the only flashlight im gonna need for years to come until they break or i lose them. Thanks for the review brotha!! 🤙🏼
You didn't mention the UI... FENIX for some odd reason insists on having the buyer Caudle l cycle through turbo to get ECO it LOW... Annoying to be blasted by Max lumens when we weren't intending to use Turbo.. not good for persevering night vision Hour hard would it be to make Turbo address 2 clicks. Like everyone else???
I love Fenix lights. I'd like to see more effort with multi emitter lights. A line of higher performance 21700 lights with 4, 5, or even 6 or 7 emitters with an easily achieved 4k-6k lumens. We won't see it from them but I'd pay it for something like the LR40R but smaller.
LOL 'when you hear something in the Woods'. *Not Sceeerd are ya?* Got to LOVE the WOODS!! = ) I think you've got it backwards, or wrong word - 8:50 "Flood" = more a Wide view; Spot is spot. 9:30 but words w\o view - I would choose wrong.
30? You do not have near enough. I mean that too. You can't ever have enough of them.. I have bought 7 Fenix lights since June 2021. I have bought other litte lights at Lowe's for gifts and I bought some other lights through my work at a local hardware store in 2021 because I thought they looked cool.
Fenix makes a lot of great flashlights, but they dont make an ideal one. They always miss the mark on at least one detail, in this case its not being able to stand on its tail cap, thats such a basic detail that should not have been missed.
Fenix was the flashlight brand which started my collection of quality flashlights. But I abandoned it. Why? Yes, the user interface is bad. All modes are included in the memory function. And no shortcut to any of them. If you last time used turbomode and next time want low mode you will put on turbo before cycling down to low. And if you last time used low mode you need to cycle through several modes to reach turbo. Very impractical. Apart from that the mode spacing is way too small for the eyes to under different conditions determine what level is currently active. It will be a regular confusion about what mode is active. "is it low or med?", "is it med or high?", "is it high or turbo?" And so on. The space between memorised modes should be at least 3 times, and preferable 4-5 times, because the eyes usually don't perceive brightness differences linearly. Therefore Thrunite is my favorite brand. Direct access to the lowest and highest mode. And memory of the regular modes, while the gap is enough large for the eyes to determine the mode. Apart from that Thrunite offers ALL models in both cool and neutral white tint, while Fenix is very restrictive with neutral tints. A tip: check out Thrunite TC15 or BSS V4. Perfect user interface and perfect mode spacing.
That should be awesome at 65$ and up.thats a waste of good $, to each idea their own buy my 20$ flashlight and rechargeable tazer works amazing after 2 years use,its also amazingly bright and has the same accessories.and can save your life if something decides to attack.
